The mission of the Christian Academy School System is to develop students with a heart for God who grow as Jesus did in wisdom, stature and favor with God and men.
The homecoming parade at Christian Academy has fast become an important tradition. On September 25,the rain cleared just in time for the parade in all itscolor to proceed. Among the many student-designedand built floats was a 2010 Ford Mustang provided byOxmoor Toyota. The Mustang carried graduates fromthe classes of 1982, 1983 and 1984.
At the game that evening, approximately 100 alumniand their families enjoyed a meal and reconnected at the alumni hospitality tent.
Members of the classes of 1982 to 1999 were invited back to Rock Creek, thecampus that started it all, for a reunion. The catering by Masterson’s, music provided by Bluegrass Beat, and our DJ for the evening, AJ Hochhalter (’06),made for a fun atmosphere, but the yearbooks and photo albums made for great reminiscing. smile!

Since my arrival to this position inAugust, I have spoken to hundreds ofalumni. The stories have been fun to hear. For those who graduated inthe ‘80s, there have been tales of ourlockers in the courtyard at RockCreek, Harvey the dog who showedup in time for lunch every day, andthe hundreds of basketball games inthe gym. For those who graduated in the ‘90s, I have heard stories ofhow packed the campus at RockCreek was, portable buildings justabout everywhere on the property,and lunch starting at 10:30 in themorning. The fun stories were thoseof spending time in Seneca Park andhanging out in the courtyard. Thosewho graduated in the past decadehave experienced a Christian Academyunlike those in the ‘80s and ‘90s.The stories have been about the firstmarching band and the first footballteam. Girls have had greater opportu-nities for participating in sports suchas tennis and field hockey.

When I was hired in August as theDirector of Development and AlumniAffairs, I was asked to get our alumniinvolved. As a member of the class of’84, I have seen our school grow andchange, not without some mistakes,but with the wisdom to correcthuman errors and continue along the path God has for our school. Itwill be my goal to help you reconnectwith old friends and be continuallyinformed about what is going on withour school. It doesn’t matter if yougraduated from a small campus inSeneca Park or from a large sprawlingcampus on English Station Road, youare a Christian Academy graduate andare part of an outstanding legacy.

Mastering Music…
You won’t want to miss the spring concerts from our FineArts department. March 9 the High School band, choir andorchestra will perform. April 27 will feature the jazz bandsand percussion ensemble. The Inside ScoopCAL students are doing some amazing things. Besides their work in the classroom they are broadening their horizons withmissions, music and theater.
Mission Moment… Honduras (June 2009)
Last summer a team of 23 students and11 adults went to La Paz, Honduras.During their trip, approximately 1,000Honduran people were treated in freemedical and dental clinics. In additionto these clinics, CAL students went into the local schools and communitycenters to provide health and hygienetraining. Other team members installedwater purification systems for the
village, and trained the people about the value of clean water. A specialproject this year was building the Taylor Rose youth center. The fundsfor this project came from the Taylor Rose memorial fund.

Ghana (July 2009)
On July 8, twelve students and two adults boarded a plane bound forGhana, West Africa. This was the first time that a CAL team traveled toGhana for a mission trip. Over the two weeks, the students had the privi-lege of sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with around ten thousandchildren in villages all across the country. Working with Seed Ministries inTamale, the CAL team drove into villages to visit their Bible Clubs and helpteach lessons, sing songs and do crafts. Twice a week the CAL team helpedtrain Bible Club leaders as they studied the scriptures. The team left Ghanatwo weeks later in awe of God who is Lord of all peoples!

Crystal Mounce (’01) Crystal was awarded a travel scholar-ship from the American Associationof Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) toparticipate in the AACP TeachersSeminar during the annual meeting in Boston this past Summer. She wasalso honored and selected to partici-pate in the National Math + ScienceYoung Leaders Program and will bementored by college distinguishedalumnus, Candace Kendle, PharmD,Chairman and CEO of KendleInternational Inc.

Katie Aebersold (’03) Katie finished her Master of Arts inFrench at the University of Louisvillein May 2009. She is teaching Frenchat Our Lady of Providence Junior/
Senior High School in Clarksville, IN,where she teaches 7th-12th gradeFrench.
Beau Manning (’04) After graduation from CAL, Beauwent to Indiana University Southeastwhere he spent his entire collegiatecareer playing baseball before becom-ing assistant coach. He holds numer-ous records and awards from histenure at IU Southeast, includingteam captain, 2008 Male Athlete ofthe Year, and KIAC-All Conferenceevery year of his career. In October2008, Manning signed a professionalbaseball contract with the Big BendCowboys in the Continental BaseballLeague (Independent). He is now inhis second season with the Cowboysand continues to coach at IUSoutheast. He received his bachelor’sdegree in General Studies from IUSoutheast in 2008.
Whitney (Goodin) Moore (’04) After graduatingfrom CAL,Whitney wenton to study at MiamiUniversity inOxford, OH.She graduatedin December2008 with abachelor’sdegree in MusicEducation and a
minor in Arts Management. She says,“During my time at Miami, God ledme to attend services at a new churchplant in town called the Bridge. Tomake a long story short, the pastor,Chad Moore, and I got married thispast summer on June 13. After thewedding, I started working as the neworchestra director at Northwest HighSchool and Pleasant Run MiddleSchool. We have settled in Oxfordand are watching God do amazingthings across Miami’s campus!”

Kendall Cox (’84)Currently,Kendall is the ProgramDirector forClean WaterU, the train-ing school forLiving Waters
for the World (LWW). LWW trainsand equips mission teams to share the gift of clean sustainable waterwith communities in need. They
now have over 300 clean water systems in 23 countries all over theworld, including Kenya, Cuba, India, and the United States.
Matt Breeding (’84)Matt owns Murski Breeding Sales,and lives in Texas with his wife andtwo daughters.
Jason Karlen (’88)Jason and hiswife recentlyadopted a son,Daniel, fromthe Ukraine.

Rachel (Hatfield) Tatum (’04) Rachel is a 6th Grade Language Arts and Literature teacher atChristian Academy English StationCampus. She is married to Timothy Scott Tatum.
T.C. Carter and Brandon Jones(’05) started a driveway sealing busi-ness. Both are college graduates andhave started their career jobs. In orderto accomplish some financial goals,they put their entrepreneurial energyto work and started Carter & JonesSealing.
Jessica Martin (’05) Jessica mar-ried RobMartin onJune 27, 2009at DuncanMemorialChapel. Both
Jessica and Rob attend KentuckyChristian University. Jessica is study-ing psychology and anticipates a grad-uation date of May 2011. They cur-rently live in Grayson, Kentucky inthe KCU married student apartments.
Carley Brooks (’06)Carley is finishing up a Semester atSea with Western KentuckyUniversity. She set sail from Halifax,Nova Scotia with other WKU stu-dents on August 28. The trip endedon December 14 in San Diego, CA.The ship docked in multiple locationsthroughout the world, where she wasable to engage in hands-on learning inworld issues, economies, and cultures.
Dawn (Carlson) Wilburn (’06)Dawn married Greg Wilburn onDecember 19, 2009. Greg is on staff with Inter-Varsity ChristianFellowship at the University of

Oliver Scott Beard (’07)
Scott is working in a mechanical engineering coop with ExxonMobilCorporation in Houston, TX. He is enrolled in the University ofLouisville’s Speed School ofEngineering and anticipates graduat-ing in 2012. Last spring, he was featured in University of Louisvillepublications for his second straightyear as the “Red Reign” recipient, the Most Spirited at U of L award.He also received the Highest GPAAward for Mechanical Engineers within the Speed School. He isengaged to be married to LyndseyLawson on May 8, 2010 at SoutheastChristian Church.
Amanda (Hatter) Poirrier (’07) Amanda lives in Atlanta with her husband, Caleb, and her daughterSkylee Colette Poirrier. Skylee wasborn March 22, 2008.
Austin Carver (’08)Due to participating in the sciencefair, Austin received the Hallmark
Award from the University ofLouisville and Math Department. At the Louisville Regional ScienceFair, of which he serves as VicePresident, he was awarded the Societyof Physics Students award. He cur-rently works for the Chair of thePhysics Department at theUniversity of Louisville. He iswriting a paper that will hopefully bepublished next year, and intends tocontinue his education by attendinggraduate school for a PhD in physics.He will graduate with a BS in Physicsand a minor in Mathematics in threeyears because of the ample amount ofAP classes that CAL offered. He isnow on track to be a professor andresearch physicist.
Parker Raque (’09) After graduation, Parker went to PennState University where he competes ingymnastics. This year, he won a goldmedal in the floor exercise at theUnited States National Competition.
Christine Taylor and StephanieSusemichel were in the class of 2005.Their BFA (Bachelor of Fine Artsfrom the University of Louisville)Thesis Exhibitions were displayed at the Cressman Center in Louisville,Kentucky. Christine’s 11 pieces combine art and abnormal psycholo-gy. She is working toward a career inArt Therapy. She hopes to be acceptedinto an Art Therapy master’s programnext year. Stephanie’s decorative pieces all include bees. She is attempt-ing to draw attention to the plight of our disappearing bee populations and educating the public as to theresulting serious consequences.Stephanie is making preparations to enter medical school.

Every dollarraised makes a difference in complet-ing our vision. As an alumnus, yourdonation will show that those whowent before want to support thosewho are here now.
Centurion Athletic Complex
In October we dedicated the newmulti-sport Athletic Complex on theEnglish Station campus. As pledgepayments continue to come in andadditional funds are raised, we willcomplete enhancements such as lock-ers, washer and dryer, voice and data,and additional weight and trainingequipment, which are estimated tocost approximately $125,000.
Fine Arts Expansion & Renovation
We have expanded our visual artsclassrooms, and we have started theprocess of enclosing one of the court-yards to add space for band, orchestraand choir. We still need $377,988 tocomplete this project, which is a keycomponent in the development of thenew Christian Academy School ofFine Arts.
Rock Creek Campus Renovation
The plan for the Rock Creek campusis an entire renovation that will main-tain the footprint and unique cultureof the campus, as well as enhance thelook and educational experience. This$1.2 million project includes newwindows, siding, landscaping, HVACupdates, gym bleachers and new roof,as well as classroom, kitchen and rest-room renovations.
English Station ElementaryPlayground
Fifty-five thousand dollars remains tobe raised for the playground expan-sion project. This will provide moreage-appropriate equipment to helpstudents develop essential motorskills, and will provide greater sched-uling flexibility for our teachers asmore students are able to use the playground at the same time.

Christian Academy Schools are verydynamic. The Board of Directors andleadership of the school are constantlylooking at ways to improve the aca-demic experience of our students without compromising our beliefs orexcellence in all we do.
The Christian Academy School ofFine Arts was established to give stu-dents the opportunity to study bothperforming arts and visual arts. Inaddition to the Honors, College Prepand Standard Diploma offerings,graduates of the School of Fine Artswill also receive a diploma with a special Fine Arts designation reflectingtheir successful completion of the program requirements. Since theintroduction of performing and visualarts courses at Christian Academy, the number of students has grown toover 500 participants in 25 offeringsin 2009.
To better accommodate the growth ofthe Fine Arts program and to addressother long term facility needs, fourcapital projects, outlined below, are
