Yet every time we celebrate Christmas, we celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace who promised, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27 How do we find peace during one of the most hectic and fast- paced holidays of the year? Can we find peace in the midst of conflict or chaos? Here are a few ideas to ponder as we enter this Christmas season: 1. Feed on God’s promises every day. Jesus never promised peaceful circumstances, He promised His peace in the midst of difficult circumstances. Can we spend time with the promises of God daily to see beyond the conflict and chaos of our world? What does our daily diet consist of? Watching 24 hour news programs, or resting on the promises of God who says, “My grace is sufficient for you…”? What are you feeding on the most? Take time for God’s promises. 2. Be a peace maker as much as possible. Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” Matthew 5:9 CHRIST THE KING LUTHERAN CHURCH THE KINGS PAGE DECEMBER 2014

FINDING PEACE DURING CHRISTMAS… “Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel,

praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.’” Luke 2:13-14

Peace on earth…it often seems the farthest thing from reality…conflicts around the globe continue, and even more than that, conflicts in our own lives…peace seems like a far fetched idea. Here are a few ideas to ponder as we enter this Christmas season:

Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” Matthew 5:9

You can’t control what other people do, but you can control what you do. Where can we build bridges this Christmas season? Can we let go of past hurts and conflicts and move forward? Healing begins with bringing God’s forgiveness into our own hearts and allowing God’s forgiveness to reign in the place of pain and bitter- ness.

3. Be mindful of your schedule. I know that much of our stress and anxiety comes from increased activity during this season. There are so often so many get-togethers, parties, and activities and we don’t want to miss a thing. Yet, too much of a good thing can create a bad thing — lack of peace, lack of sleep, lack of serenity. Take a look at all the activities you can partake in and choose wisely. Enjoy your family and friends, but also take time for quiet and peace. Let God speak to you in those times of quiet and peace …meditate on the depth of good Christmas music or stories. Take time for loved ones in one-on-one times where the hustle and bustle of crowds are not beating on your nerves. We have to guard our time and choose wisely so that we don’t get overrun with the craziness of our schedules. And as much as possible, take time to rest and sleep. It’s the one way God has given our bodies the ability to rejuvenate and when neglected, we lose our peace quickly. May God grant us His peace, a peace not based upon the condi-tion of our circumstances or the condition of our world, but based upon the promise of His presence. May we enjoy those around us and find ways to be peacemakers, using our time to its fullest. I look forward to hearing how God is speaking to you this Christmas season! God’s peace be with you, Pastor Mark

At our last Missions Committee meeting, we were so blessed with two amazing presentations. The first was by Jennifer Wright, founder of HEAL, a 501c3, not-for-profit organization. Since 2007, HEAL has grown to include volunteers and partners from around the world. Christ The King has been a part of this ministry which serves Rapha, the orphanage in Kenya sending Short Term Missionaries since 2010. As she stated at our meeting and on Sunday for the congregation, the needs are many as the orphanage continues to grow to provide safe shelter, regular nutri-tious meals, and a Christian-based education for these orphans. Jennifer's presentation was then followed by Brandon Way, one of the founders of Seeds of Hope, which is also a 501c3 not-for-profit organization. He gave us an update on the progress being made towards the purchase of land in Kenya to build a home and school for the older kids, true street kids. These are the kids that are too old for an orphanage, but in desperate need of shelter and regular meals. This ministry plans to provide these things, as well as to give them the skills for employment in a trade/tech vocation. Many of you may have seen Brandon along with Cathy Johnson at their November fund raiser here at CTK. The beauty and balance of these two separate ministries and the way they complement each other happens only by the Grace of God and His Holy Direction. We were humbled and amazed to witness the unfolding of these two endeavors. If you would like to keep up to date on the progress being made, or help in any way, information for both of these ministries can be found on the CTK website. Please keep these two ministries in your prayers during this Advent season. “Immanuel...God With Us!” Natalie Rhyne, Missions Committee

It is with many emotional and mixed feelings that I announce my retirement from my secretarial position at

Christ The King Church, as of December 24, 2014. It has been my honor and privilege to serve in the church office here for the past eight

years. The hours I have spent here have been more of a spiritual journey than a job. After much discussion, Larry and I have come to the conclusion that it really is time for me to dedicate more of my life to my family, our home, and our own business ventures. I will miss being in the office every day very much, but I will still be around, in

a volunteer capacity and of course, Christ The King will always be our church home. Thank you for making me feel so loved and accepted

these many years I've had the opportunity to be of service to you all.

In His Love, Linda Ducas
