From the Pastor’s Desk

Pope Francis has called for an Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy which will begin this Tuesday, December 8. A Jubilee Year is a tradition in the Church that has its roots in the Old Testament. The Jewish people celebrated a jubilee every fifty years in order to forgive debts, free slaves, and return land to its original owners. It was a special time of reconciliation and restoration. The Church has taken up this tradition and now celebrates a Jubilee Year approximately every twenty-five years. The purpose of a Christian Jubilee Year is to promote renewal, conversion, and deeper life in Christ. The last Jubilee Year was celebrated in 2000, but Pope Francis did not want to wait until 2025 to have another. He determined that the Church (and the world) needed an Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy. This unique Jubilee Year will

have a focus on forgiveness, penance, healing, and service to those in need. According to the Holy Father, this will be a privileged time for all of humanity to encounter Christ, who is rich in mercy. Some of the key practices for the Year of Mercy will be: going to confession, performing the corporal and spiritual works of mercy, making a pilgrimage, forgiving others, meditating on the Stations of the Cross, and praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Let us do our best to embrace the spirit of this Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy at Christ the King. May the Lord bless you throughout this week. Desde el Escritorio del Párroco

El Papa Francisco ha pedido un Año Extraordinario Jubilar de la Misericordia, que comenzará este martes, 8 de diciembre. Un Año Jubilar es una tradición de la Iglesia, que tiene sus raíces en el Antiguo Testamento. El pueblo judío celebraba un jubileo cada cincuenta años para perdonar deudas, liberar esclavos, y devolver la tierra a sus propietarios originales. Era un momento especial de reconciliación y restauración. La Iglesia ha retomado esta tradición y ahora celebra un año jubilar aproximadamente cada veinticinco años. El propósito de un Año Jubilar Cristiano es promover la renovación, la conversión y profundizar en la vida de Cristo. El último año jubilar se celebró en el 2000, pero el Papa Francisco no quiere esperar hasta el 2025 para tener otro, así que determinó que la Iglesia (y el mundo) necesitaban un Año Jubilar Extraordinario de la Misericordia. Este Año Jubilar tendrá su enfoque en el perdón, la penitencia, la sanación, y el servicio a los más necesitados. Según el Santo Padre, este será un tiempo privilegiado para toda la humanidad para encontrar a Cristo, que es rico en misericordia. Algunas de las prácticas clave para el Año de la Misericordia serán: ir a la confesión, realizar las obras corporales y espirituales de misericordia, hacer alguna peregrinación, perdonar a los demás, meditar el Viacrucis, y rezar la Coronilla de la Divina Misericordia. Hagamos nuestro mejor esfuerzo para recibir el espíritu de este Año Jubilar Extraordinario de la misericordia en Christ the King.

The Women’s Care Center is extremely thankful for proceeds received from Christ the King’s baby bottle campaign during the month of October. The baby bottles that our parish filled

came to a grand total of $2015.90. These funds help support the Women’s Care Center, which provides women with services related to an unexpected pregnancy. This includes supportive counseling, ultrasounds, parenting education, community referrals, baby items, as well as love and encouragement.

All Saints Academy Catholic School

We are excited to welcome Bishop Campbell for our School Mass this Tuesday as we celebrate Mary’s Immaculate Conception. The bishop has been a great supporter of All Saints Academy, and we appreciate his visits each year.

There will be a fundraiser for our school at Bob Evans this Friday, December 11. If you visit the Whitehall Bob Evans (3988 East Broad Street) anytime this Friday, 15% of the sales will be donated to All Saints Academy’s “Cool the School” window project. You can eat in or carry out. However, in order for the school to raise funds, you must present the Community Fundraiser Flyer. The flyers are located at the doors of the church and in the school office. Enjoy a delicious meal from Bob Evans and know that you are supporting our school.

Also, it has become a tradition at Christ the King to have gift cards for sale in the vestibule as Christmas draws near. A percentage of the sales return to All Saints Academy. The gift cards will be available the weekends of December 12-13 and December 19-20.
