Happy Easter Season and Welcome to Christ Church! We are
delighted that you are worshipping with us. All baptized persons of
every denomination are welcome to receive communion at our altar.
Please introduce yourself to one of our greeters. Please let an usher
know if you are unable to come to the railing for Communion and
the clergy will come to you.
We would love to meet with you at coffee hour after the 10:00 AM
service. We meet in the Deppich Room. Go through the Red Doors
in the right rear of the sanctuary, through the small lobby and turn
left at the first door.
Are you looking for a church home? You are welcome to fill out a
pew card and place it in the offering plate. On it you can indicate
that you would like the clergy to call on you.
Out of respect for neighbors wishing for quiet time to pray before
the liturgy begins, please use your “inside voice” in the nave.
The Altar Flowers are given today in loving memory of George
Moss, Joyce Moss, Harry and Grace Schott, William and Martha
Moss and Jack and Evelyn Tomlinson, by Gary and Linda Moss and
family; and, in loving memory of Robert, Brian and Virginia
Cantafio, Thomas Bello, George Moore and Thomas Moore, by the
Moore family.
As a reminder: If you get chilly in church this summer, please bring
a sweater or jacket. The air conditioning does not reach the
chancel, and the most heavily-dressed people are all up there!
Pathways: I would like to thank everyone for the wonderful
celebration on May 19th. It was so nice to see so many people come
to celebrate to end of a program that has been a big part of Christ
Church and the Ridley Park community for so many years. Since
2007 it has been a huge part of my heart. I was blessed to a part of
this program and its families. Thank you all for the generous gift
that was given to me. ~~Kathy Okarski

The Lessons
FIRST READING: Acts 16:16-34
The people sit.
A Reading from the Acts of the Apostles.
16[With Paul and Silas, we came to Philippi of Macedonia, a Roman
colony, and] as we were going to the place of prayer, we met a slave-girl
who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners a great deal of
money by fortune-telling.17While she followed Paul and us, she would
cry out, “These men are slaves of the Most High God, who proclaim to
you a way of salvation.” 18She kept doing this for many days. But Paul,
very much annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I order you in the
name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And it came out that very hour.
19But when her owners saw that their hope of making money was
gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace
before the authorities. 20When they had brought them before the
magistrates, they said, “These men are disturbing our city; they are Jews 21and are advocating customs that are not lawful for us as Romans to
adopt or observe.” 22The crowd joined in attacking them, and the
magistrates had them stripped of their clothing and ordered them to be
beaten with rods. 23After they had given them a severe flogging, they
threw them into prison and ordered the jailer to keep them securely. 24Following these instructions, he put them in the innermost cell and
13
fastened their feet in the stocks.
25About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to
God, and the prisoners were listening to them. 26Suddenly there was an
earthquake, so violent that the foundations of the prison were shaken;
and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were
unfastened. 27When the jailer woke up and saw the prison doors wide
open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, since he supposed
that the prisoners had escaped. 28But Paul shouted in a loud voice, “Do
not harm yourself, for we are all here.” 29The jailer called for lights, and
rushing in, he fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. 30Then he
brought them outside and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31They answered, “Believe on the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you
and your household.” 32They spoke the word of the Lord to him and to
all who were in his house. 33At the same hour of the night he took them
and washed their wounds; then he and his entire family were baptized
without delay. 34He brought them up into the house and set food before
them; and he and his entire household rejoiced that he had become a
believer in God.

PSALM: Psalm 97
Remain seated.
1The LORD is King;
let the earth rejoice; *
let the multitude of the isles be glad.
2Clouds and darkness are round about him, *
righteousness and justice are the foundations of his throne.
3A fire goes before him *
and burns up his enemies on every side.
4His lightnings light up the world; *
the earth sees it and is afraid.
5The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the LORD, *
at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.
6The heavens declare his righteousness, *
14
and all the peoples see his glory.
7Confounded be all who worship carved images
and delight in false gods! *
Bow down before him, all you gods.
8Zion hears and is glad, and the cities of Judah rejoice, *
because of your judgments, O LORD.
9For you are the LORD,
most high over all the earth; *
you are exalted far above all gods.
10The LORD loves those who hate evil; *
he preserves the lives of his saints
and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
11Light has sprung up for the righteous, *
and joyful gladness for those who are truehearted.
12Rejoice in the LORD, you righteous, *
and give thanks to his holy Name.
SECOND READING: Revelation 22:12-14, 16-17, 20-21
The people sit.
A Reading from the Revelation of John.
12“See, I am coming soon; my reward is with me, to repay according to
everyone’s work. 13I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last,
the beginning and the end.”
14Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they will have the
right to the tree of life and may enter the city by the gates.
16“It is I, Jesus, who sent my angel to you with this testimony for the
churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning
star.”
17The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.”
And let everyone who hears say, “Come.”
And let everyone who is thirsty come.
Let anyone who wishes take the water of life as a gift.
20The one who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming
soon.”
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!
21The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all the saints. Amen.

GOSPEL: John 17:20-26
All stand.
Celebrant The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ
according to John.
People Glory to you, Lord Christ.
[Jesus prayed for his disciples, and then he said,] 20“I ask not only on
behalf of these, but also on behalf of those who will believe in me
through their word, 21that they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me
and I am in you, may they also be in us, so that the world may believe
that you have sent me. 22The glory that you have given me I have given
them, so that they may be one, as we are one, 23I in them and you in me,
that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that
you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
24Father, I desire that those also, whom you have given me, may be with
me where I am, to see my glory, which you have given me because you
loved me before the foundation of the world.
17
25“Righteous Father, the world does not know you, but I know you;
and these know that you have sent me. 26I made your name known to
them, and I will make it known, so that the love with which you have
loved me may be in them, and I in them.”
Celebrant The Gospel of the Lord.
People Praise to you, Lord Christ.
THE SERMON
THE NICENE CREED (BCP p. 358)
All stand.
We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
18
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

and hasten the coming of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and

The Celebrant adds a concluding Collect.

in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
21
We have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will,
and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your Name. Amen.

The People remain standing.
Celebrant The Lord be with you.
People And also with you.
Celebrant Lift up your hearts.
People We lift them to the Lord.
Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People It is right to give him thanks and praise.
PROPER PREFACE (BCP p. 367)
Facing the Holy Table, the Celebrant proceeds
It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give
thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.
But chiefly are we bound to praise you for the glorious resurrection of
your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; for he is the true Paschal Lamb, who
was sacrificed for us, and has taken away the sin of the world. By his
death he has destroyed death, and by his rising to life again he has won
for us everlasting life.
23
Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels
and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to
proclaim the glory of your Name:
SANCTUS (BCP p. 367)
Celebrant and People
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
24
WORDS OF INSTITUTION (BCP p. 368)
The People stand or kneel.
The Celebrant continues
We give thanks to you, O God, for the goodness and love which you
have made known to us in creation; in the calling of Israel to be your
people; in your Word spoken through the prophets; and above all in the
Word made flesh, Jesus, your Son. For in these last days you sent him to
be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Savior and Redeemer of the
world. In him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to
stand before you. In him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out
of sin into righteousness, out of death into life.
On the night before he died for us, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and
when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples,
and said, “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for
the remembrance of me.”
After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he
gave it to them, and said, “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the
new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of
sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”
Therefore, according to his command, O Father,
Celebrant and People
We remember his death,
We proclaim his resurrection,
We await his coming in glory;
EPICLESIS (BCP p. 369)
The Celebrant continues
And we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, O Lord of
all; presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine.
25
We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts
that they may be the Sacrament of the Body of Christ and his Blood of
the new Covenant. Unite us to your Son in his sacrifice, that we may be
acceptable through him, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit. In the
fullness of time, put all things in subjection under your Christ, and bring
us to that heavenly country where, with all your saints, we may enter the
everlasting heritage of your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our
Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author
of our salvation.
By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all
honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. AMEN.
THE LORD’S PRAYER (BCP p. 363)
As our Savior Christ has taught us, we now pray,
People and Celebrant
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your Name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and forever. Amen.
26
