Winners of Barchester Care Awards Diana Nica and Tracey Scully have been crowned Home Registered Nurse and Home and Administration

Champion of the year of Barchester’s South Division in the Barchester Care Awards 2019 and have made

it through to the national finals.

The awards celebrate staff and volunteers who go the extra mile for the benefit of individuals living in

Barchester care homes. Categories range from ‘Registered Nurse of the Year’ and ‘Carer of the Year’ to

‘Maintenance Champion’ and ‘Team of the Year’.

More than 1,900 nominations were received from homes across the UK. All entries have been of a very

high standard and Diana Nica and Tracey Scully are thrilled to have been named top in the region for their

category.

As the winners for the South Division, Diana and Tracey have automatically gone through to the national

Barchester Care Awards finals, where they will be interviewed by the judges for the last round of judging.

In October they will join the other finalists from across the UK at a special awards luncheon to celebrate

their achievements and discover if they have won the national award title.

Diana said: “I wasn’t expecting to be shortlisted but I am so pleased, and proud. We don’t work in care for

the accolades but it’s wonderful to be recognised by my team and peers, it is nothing short of an honour.”

Making Dreams come true Sharon’s Community Choir perform a

selection of different songs, from musicals to

classics which they perform every Wednesday

at the Chorleywood Beaumont.

The hospitality team at the home provides a

spread of sweet and savoury treats for guests

to enjoy during the show.

Warren who is the co-leader of Sharon’s

Community Choir said “It has been a great

pleasure to meet so many people, having an

opportunity to chat with the residents

following our singing performance; our group

always looks forward to perform at the home.”

Susan Pluckwell, who has been with us for a

short period of time, has stated that she has

always dreamt of being in a choir and sing.

Being able to do so now has been a dream

come true. It just goes to show that it is never

too late to make your dreams come true.

Our Home received a “GOOD” rating As many of you know, The CQC inspected the home on the 8th of March (the report was published on 11th June) and rated the home, run by Barchester Healthcare, “Good” in all 5 areas of “Safe”, “Effective”, “Caring”, “Responsive” and “Well-Led”, with a “Good” score overall. The report commented how the staff felt working at the home. “Staff told us they felt supported by the manager and received the regular supervision and appropriate training to complete their roles effectively. People told us that they thought the manager was approachable and people knew how to complain if necessary.” Every staff member received a £100 voucher as a token of appreciation and the praise for every single one of them never ceases.

Donation to Luton Mobility The team welcomed Sue Bolton (Vice-Chair)

and Dixie Kightley (Treasurer) to a breakfast

spread and a tour of the home. Harold Tasker,

the home’s Resident Ambassador, said “I was

very pleased to be able to present Luton Shop

Mobility with a cheque for £1000 from

Barchester Charitable Foundation as I know

the money is going towards a good cause.

Mobility equipment can be expensive so it is

great Barchester’s charity is able to support

local people with disabilities, because

everyone deserves to live well.”

A few words from Barchester…

International Nurses Day We paid special tribute to all of our nurses on International Nurses Day to thank them for their dedication to the residents and patients they care for in our homes and hospitals. CEO, Pete Calveley, made a special visit to Epsom Beaumont Care Home in Epsom to personally thank each nurse for all the hard work that they do, and presented them each with a branded fob watch as a token of appreciation for their dedication to the home. Every Barchester nurse across the country will also be receiving a branded fob watch to mark this special occasion and their commitment to their roles.

Topping Out at Eastbourne Our newest care home development in Eastbourne celebrated a major milestone with a topping out ceremony. The occasion marked the completion of the latest stage of the 80-bed care home, where the final tile was laid, and the final brick was fitted. The home, named ‘Mortain Place’, will provide high-quality residential and dementia care for older people in the community of Eastbourne, and is set to open its doors to residents for the first time this autumn.

Barchester Now Has 6 ‘Outstanding’ Services

Briardene Care Home in Billingham was awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating in March following its most recent CQC inspection, bringing Barchester’s total number of ‘Outstanding’ homes to 6. Our other care homes that have achieved this rating are Lucerne House in Exeter, Forest Hill in Worksop, Red Oaks in Henfield and West Oak in Wokingham, in addition to Billingham Grange Independent Hospital in Billingham. Well done to everyone who has made this possible!
