Digital Circular Economy
In order to move from a linear to a circular economic system, all ac-tors need one thing in particular: information in the form of digital data. Information on materials and resources used, sourcing and working conditions, production and recycling processes, etc. All of this data must be collected and made available along the entire supply chain and in every single phase of a product’s lifecycle – while ensuring the data’s quality, traceability, and the intellectual property. This is an enormous task that can only be mastered by digital means.
The effort involved is worth it, because with this data, it is possi-ble to virtually simulate all phases of the product lifecycle already in the design phase and thus create a digital twin of the product. With detailed data on the substances, articles, and mixtures contained in products combined with the consideration of their entire life cycle will companies be able to adequately assess risks, predict impacts, and prepare for real recycling. Achieving this kind of predictive circularity is what we call “Digital Circular Economy”, the digital blueprint for a Circular Economy.
