News from the Library
Our visit from Duncan Smith and his children Bevan, Nikita and Dylan from Wiradjuri Echoes was brilliant. The children were engaged from start to finish. The morning began with every student and staff having their handprints sprayed onto the spectacular mural. Then Duncan and his family played the didgeridoo and clapping sticks. The students participated making animal sounds and using aboriginal words. Duncan then told a Dreamtime Story and taught the students to tell that story through drawing. The mornings activities ended on a high note with the students faces painted. The girls faces were painted to represent berries and the boys to represent kangaroos. They were then set to perform a fantastic dance. Below is a letter to Duncan from Eliana Evans.
Mrs Katen
Dearest Duncan,
K-6 would like to thank you for coming to our school. We would like to thank you for teaching your aboriginal tradition with everyone, and teaching how to say animal names with your language you taught us. The teachers would like to thank you and your kids for everything you’ve all done for us. The K-6 students had lots of fun. The music you played was really amazing. My favourite thing was the art. I like the way we got our hands sprayed it looked really cool. The musical instrument I liked was the didgeridoo where you made the animal sounds. We hope you come to our school again and teach us more. From Eliana Evans
The K-2 had this to say about Duncan and his families visit:-
Grace - The dance was awesome.
Brittany - The story was the best.
Beau - I loved having my hand sprayed.
Hayley - I like turning around and being a boomerang.
Brayden - I really like the noises that the didgeridoo made.
Ayden - I loved doing the artwork after the story.
Manaia - The noises that the didgeridoo made were epic.
Katie - I liked running up to the others during the dance.
Michael - I thought it was great having our face painted.
Ashlee - Duncan was “the best” didgeridoo player.
Amelia - Learning to draw the picture was cool.
Jayden - It was fun having my face painted and making animal noises.
