We have worked very hard this season and I thank you for
that and I know that all the Holy Week celebrations will be
beautiful. Here are some important reminders that will get us
through these upcoming days:
Please be sure to be on time for the call times that I have set
for the events. That is very important so that we can have
proper warm ups and talk through the service if we need to.
Please be sure that you are rested and feeling well and have
something to eat and drink! If you do not feel up to coming to
a rehearsal or may feel under the weather, please just call me or let me know and
you will be excused. I want you all to be at your best. I don’t want anyone to feel
dizzy or pass out during the service. In case there is this emergency, just sit down
in you place and I will help you.
Keep in mind your tools for proper singing! Do some simple warm ups and
stretches before arriving at church as well. Refer to the “How To” booklet from
the beginning of the seasons. Remember to have a good sense of where your
support lies and that your body is ready to sing. Make sure your posture and
frame can support your singing as well (shoulders back and relaxed, keep your
legs shoulder width apart and bend your knees slightly, be sure that you are
totally relaxed stretch back, shoulders, neck, jaw so there is no tension placed on
the voice, also stretch your voice with the yawning exercise starting from the
bottom of your range to the top and back down, getting higher each time. Make
sure you are using relaxed singing (approach the note from above it, like
helicopter landing on top of it, using mix of head and chest voice).
Finally, and most important, we are celebrating as a community of faith our
promised salvation through Christ’s sacrifice. Don’t just make the anthems
wonderful choral pieces, but make them prayers. Help to lead our fellow
parishioners through these three most important days and understand
completely the message of each song, hymn, anthem, and prayer.
I cannot thank you all again for you hard work and dedication. It means a lot to me
and I know it will mean a lot to the people who come and reflect with us on the
mystery of Christ’s death and prepare for His resurrection.
