*unger an# )alnutrition are in fact t&e nu)ber one &ealt& risk in t&e P&ilippines. +&is is really

alar)ing. ,tatistics s&o% t&at t%o )illion people are )alnouris&e# in etro anila alone. +&ere are

)any progra)s by #ifferent presi#ents in t&eir ti)e but unfortunately not&ing succee#e#.

$n all of t&e fa)ilies! $ sa% fi(e )aor proble)s t&at really affect our &ealt&.

/irst! fa)ily size. $t is clear in t&e fil) t&at &unger inci#ence is #irectly proportional to fa)ily

size. +&e larger t&e fa)ily! t&e bigger t&e e0penses. ore so! )ost /ilipino fa)ilies #o not &a(e stable

inco)es. $ t&ink t&e role of nurses t&at is applicable to t&is is to pro(i#e fa)ilies enoug& e#ucation on

fa)ily planning. e )ust s&o% t&e) t&e a#(antages an# #isa#(antages of &a(ing a big fa)ily. e )ust

teac& t&e) t&e )orally accepte# )et&o#s t&at can &in#er pregnancies. e cannot #eny t&e fact t&at )any

/ilipinos #o not atten# to t&ese progra)s because t&ey are against contracepti(es ust like in our c&urc&.e are taug&t to reect fa)ily planning because it #oesn't speak of )orality. e as nurses s&oul# instill to

t&e co))unity t&at fa)ily planning is not all about contracepti(es! t&ere are a lot of fa)ily planning

)et&o#s t&at are socially an# )orally accepte#.

,econ#! parents &a(e no stable obs an# it really sa##ens )e t&at t&eir c&il#ren are being force#

 by nee#s to %ork an# )ake )oney out of garbage. $t s&ocke# )e t&at t&ere is a fa)ily t&at literally eat

foo#s fro) t&e garbage kno%n as pagpag3 #ue to lack of )oney an# so)e e(en eat poisonous plants or 

fis& ust to sur(i(e. $n or#er to a##ress t&is proble)! $ t&ink %e s&oul# practice our roles as progra)

)anagers. e s&oul# #esign a progra) t&at #oesn't only gi(e &ealt& teac&ings but also &elp t&e) &o% to

earn )oney. e can s&o% t&e) t&at t&ey can earn a #ecent li(ing by selling street foo#s an# ot&er stuffs.

/ourt&! so)e re)ote areas are really &ar# to access by t&e go(ern)ent like in ,iayan! 7a)boanga#el Norte. +&e DP* &as )any proects t&ese past years. As %&at $ obser(e#! t&ey are repairing roa#s in

#ifferent cities e(en if t&ey are still in goo# con#ition. /or )e! t&e secretary of DP* faile# to realize

co)passion an# #e#ication in or#er for us to practice our role as care pro(i#er. As future nurses %e )ust

)eet an# un#erstan# #ifferent people's li(es an# nee#s. e can &a(e )e#ical )issions on #ifferent

t&eir situation. e s&oul# kno% t&e past an# present situation of &unger in t&e P&ilippines! t&e #ifferent

re)e#ies t&at %ere i)ple)ente# an# try to fin# t&e best solution to stop &unger. 9ne )ore t&ing! as

nurses %e s&oul# e0ercise our role in )onitoring. e s&oul# not stop in taking care of in#i(i#uals an#
