CHIROPRACTIC CARE FOR YOUR CHILDREN

Imagine a toddler learning to walk. He pulls himself up, tries to step, and falls down. This happens ten to twenty times, falling and getting back up. If we were to fall like this as adults, especially with such frequency, we’d be left bruised, sore, and needing a chiropractor. We do this for ourselves, but why don’t we do this for our kids?

Dr. Richard A. Mugavero comments, “Kids rarely get adjusted because parents assume that kids don’t need it. They’re not in intense pain, but pain is a poor indicator of Chiropractic needs. The pain may not set in until long after something is already wrong.”

Our spines are strong because of curves in them. The curves allow for even distribution of pressure, creat-ing healthy bones and discs. These curves develop as a child learns to hold its head up and walk. If your child falls hard and one spinal bone moves even slightly out of place, the strength and health of the spine might be hurt for life.

It is not uncommon for teens to begin developing arthritis in their necks. Arthritis becomes more likely with age, but it is most often caused by improper motion of the joint. Even slight misalignment from a fall or those heavy back-packs kids carry around can cause this.

Dr. Mugavero advises, “Chiropractics for kids can aid in keeping spines aligned, strong, and healthy as they go through life. A healthy spine is a healthy child. Do your child a lifelong favor and take them to a chiropractor.”

CHIROPRACTIC TIPS FOR KIDS

1. Always on the go, kids are magnets for

falls, sprains, strains and sports-related injuries.

2. Chiropractic is an invaluable therapeutic

option for children because it’s noninvasive and

medication-free.

3. In fact, chiropractic is used so commonly

with kids that a survey conducted by the

National Center for Health Statistics revealed

that approximately two million children receive

chiropractic or osteopathic manipulation each year.

4. IS A BACKPACK HARMING YOUR CHILD?

You’ve probably picked up your child’s backpack

and wondered if it was full of rocks.

5. What you may not know, however, is that a

heavy backpack can be harmful to your child.

Here is a checklist to help your Child avoid neck and back pain and find pain relief:

6. Almost 6,500 kids are taken to the

emergency room each year because of backpack-

related injuries, according to the U.S. Consumer

Product Safety Commission

7. The following are ways to make your child’s

backpack less of a burden on his or her body.

• Remind your child to always use both straps.

Select a backpack with a waist belt or frame that

places the weight of the pack on your child’s pelvis,

rather than the shoulders.

• Tighten the straps so the pack is held close to

the body.

• Pack heavy items at the bottom of the pack and

balance the load as much as possible.
