Missions of the Schools



The missions are for a definite period of time, e.g., five years for

the two Wah Yans.

For example, the missions of WYHK:

In accordance with our Catholic belief in God's love and

Chinese culture, we aim:

1. To be empathic role models for our students to grow into

responsible and compassionate community members,

2. To inspire students to strive for excellence, and3. To nurture caring leaders who are competent spiritually,morally and intellectually.

The missions of WYK:

1. Through collaboration within and across subject panels and committees, and through catering for learner diversity, we help students grow towards the Profile of the Jesuit Student at Graduation for theChinese Province, with the emphasis on learning the following :

A. Students strike a reasonable balance between freedom and self-discipline – while having the freedom tomake certain choices, they understand the consequences of these choices and take responsibility of suchconsequences;

B. Students clearly understand our School’s expectations on them as learners, and have the motivationand desire to learn well; and

C. Students learn from models set by members of our professional learning community (i.e. teachers andadministrators) and show respect, love, empathy and forgiveness in action.

2. We, as a professional learning community, devise ways to know at regular intervals what students havelearned with respect to what is stated in (1).

3. We, as a professional learning community, respond to students when they are not learning what isstated in (1).

Missions (Cont.)



Dialogue Workshop on Teaching as a Service – mainly in Hong

Kong. Re-igniting teachers’ passion in teaching as a service, not just a job.

IPP being emphasized in different schools depending on theircontexts. More emphasis on practicing IPP in the schoolcommunity, i.e., both within and without the classroom.

Focus on the Jesuit Student at Graduation – to help our studentsknow more what qualities we want them to have by the timethey graduate. Teachers will have to be role models for theirstudents.

Dialogue and Other Foci



Due to our very limited Jesuit involvement,

consolidation is being considered. We want to keepat least one quality Jesuit school in each of the threeregions, i.e., Taiwan, Macau, and Hong Kong.
