Problems:-Liner wear due to “over lubricating” or “under lubricating”.-Corrosive liner due to “slow steaming”.-Catalytic fines induced abrasive wear to piston & liner associated with Low Sulfur Fuels.

-Rough sea can trigger released settled cat fines, beyond separator’s capacity

Then in all cylinders it rise wellabove 200ppm in some cylinders reaching way above400ppm.

If the crew knew, at 73310, They should have ALERT, theChief Engineer who could IDENTIFY the cause and MITIGATE liner wear risk.

After almost 17days, the linerand piston already damaged.

Offline Testing:Condition Monitoring for Cyl. Liner Wear

Heavy Fuel Oil Cat fines test

•Detects catalytic fines to prevent irreparable damage to fuel pumps, injectors, piston rings and liners.

• The new test is capable of identifying those fuel samples that have a cat fine concentration of > 60 ppm (Al + Si), and which therefore exceed the limit recommended by ISO 8217:2012.

Cylinder Cold Corrosion test

•Monitors products of corrosion that cannot be detected magnetically

•Provides early warning that cold corrosion is underway

•Gives a running commentary on internal corrosion as the operator adjusts the cylinder liner jacket temperature or oil feed rate

Ferrous Wear Debris in Oil Test

•Measures ferrous wear debris in oil samples taken from a variety of types of machinery, including used cylinder scrapedown oil, gear boxes and bearings.

•By trending of ferrous wear measurements over time, any increase in wear levels can be monitored and appropriate actions taken to mitigate any damage.

Lubricating Oils Test• Fast, accurate results for multiple oil parameters, such as,-Water in oil-TBN test-Salt Water Determination-Insoluble Loading-Viscosity Test-TAN Test

IMO Resolution MSC.337(91)

• Adopted “CODE ON NOISE

LEVELS ON BOARD SHIPS”

• The Code will take effect on

1 July 2014 upon entry into

force of regulation II-1/3-12 of

the Convention;

Regulation 3-12 – Protection against noise

1. This regulation shall apply to ships of 1,600 gross tonnage and above:

(1)for which the building contract is placed on or after 1 July 2014; or

(2)in the absence of a building contract, the keels of which are laid or which are at a

similar stage of construction on or after 1 January 2015; or

(3)the delivery of which is on or after 1 July 2018, unless the Administration deems that

compliance with a particular provision is unreasonable or impractical.

IMO Resolution MSC.338(91)

Adopts regulation II-1/3-12 of the

International Convention for the Safety

of Life at Sea, 1974 (SOLAS

Convention) which shall enter into force

on 1 July 2014.

Problem: Ship hull (especially acc. area) heavy vibration at 125rpm.

Source analysis: At full load of crude oil in a high speed(115-125rpm), vibration spectrum signal of bridge deck is mainly composed of the ignition frequency of M/E and the propeller blade frequency.

Results:Resonance happened between shaft’s 3rd order inherent frequency and blade’s frequency.
