HuanengHuaneng GroupGroup

The installation capacity by the end of 2008 was 85,860,000kw, among which about 4 million kw are installed overseas.The Group is the biggest power generation company in Asia.

The domestic installed power generation amount in 2008 was364,500 million kwh.

Sales income 2008 was 151,300 million yuan, with a year-onincrease by 30.9%. Ranking as one of the world’s top electricpower companies.

The Group has more than 100 power plants in 25 provinces

(municipalities and regions). Integrated operations in power, coal, road, port and

transportation, with a total coal production of 21.88 milliontons and has 28 billion tons of coal under control.

Develop high volume and high efficiency power generation

unit

The Group has installed four units with a capacity of 1million kw., 40 units with a capacity of 600 thousand kwand above by the end of 2008, accounting for 34.4% of

the total thermal power installation capacity of the Group The 300,000 to 600,000 kw units are the main units, and

units with capacity above 300,000 kw accounts for 85%of the total installed capacity of thermal power units of

the Group Discard and shut down small thermal power units

Small units with the capacity of 3.23 million kw were closedduring the 11th five year plan.

The earliest in introducing internationally advanced slag tap,fly ash reburning, low nox combustion technology (BeijingThermal Power and Yangliuqing Power Plant)

The earliest in establishing commercially viable wind-solarhybrid power supply system (Nan Ao)

The earliest in adopting the “double velum method” sea waterdesalination techniques; accomplished the biggest sea waterdesalination project in China (Yuanhuan Power Plant)

The earliest in the hydro power field that realizes “centralizeddispatch, no need for people on guard; few people on dutyand distance control ”

Explore actively green energy The installed capacity of hydropower in

China reached 5.23 million kw by the end of2008.

By the end of 2008, the installed capacity ofwind power in China was 1.08 million kw

The nuclear power project was launched in2004, with a planned investment of 40 billion

yuan and a total capacity of 4 million kw. The construction of China’s biggest solar

power plant with a total installation capacityof 166 thousand kw, commenced in 2008 in

Shilin, Kunming.

Promote actively technical innovation

Initiated and implemented the green coal electricityplan with efforts made to construct power plant that canhighly improve the coal power generation efficiencyand reduce emission to zero. (Tianjin IGCC Power

Plant) First of its kind in establishing the coal-fired CO2

trapping model project (Beijing Thermal Power Plant),with a yearly CO2 trapping amount of 3,000 tons.

Made efforts in research on CFB techniques andachieved great success. (Huaneng Xi’an Thermalpower Research Institute)

The construction of a 200,000-KW level high

temperature gas cooled reactor will be started inSeptember and completed in 2013 in Shidaowan,Rongcheng , Shandong.

technology innovation projects from 2003 to2007, among which, 13 are national 863 and973 projects. And has obtained 36 patent inChina.

The R&D and application of key technologiesof CFB boiler won the second prize ofNational S&T Award of China

Succeeded in development of key

technologies of a 863 project in the 11th fiveyear plan—key technology of hightemperature and high dust level DeNOx

Yuhuan Power Plant, the first million kw

power plant in China won the Gold prize ofNational Excellent Project of 2008.

The four power projects completed in Weihaiwon the silver prize of National ExcellentProject of 2008.

IV. Main achievements of energy conservation

and emission reduction

The coal consumption for power supply in 2008 was 333.59gram per kwh., 15.41 gram per kwh. less than the nationallevel 349 gram per kwh.

The energy conservation campaign launched by 19 powerplants has saved 1.16 million ton coal equivalent, whichreached 192% of the yearly target

The unit water consumption of the thermal power unit in 2007

reached 1.33 kilogram per kwh, 50% lower than nationalaverage.

The emission thickness of nitrogen oxides reachedinternational advanced level.

The emission thickness of SO2 is higher than the advanced

level of the European developed countries. All the thermal power plants will be built into enterprisespracticing energy saving and environment protection by 2010,with the coal consumption for power supply 329 gram perkwh, SO2, soot, nitrogen oxides emission for unit powergeneration 1.92, 0.5 and 1.86 gram per kwh separately. All

enterprise will maintain a national and international advancedlevel.

Clean production technology & employmentdevelopment

60.03 million kw of desulphurization devicesinstalled by the end of 2008, accounting for 81% oftotal coal-fired unit capacity. The SO2 emissionreduced 2.4 million ton per year and about 300positions created.

About new 200 new positions open on CO2

trapping and IGCC etc.
