Chapter 1 ~ My Early Years

My childhood was a very happy time. Because at that period, there was nothing need to worry about. All I needed

to do just play and learn.

I was born in Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, on September 15th. I am from a happy middle class family. I have one

sibling, named CHIN-FU, who is 2.5 years older than me. It’s very hard to explain our relationship. When we both were

child, we fought almost everyday. But when we getting older, there was no more fight between us. I thought that love and

understanding made us closer and care of each other.

Yushan

I really had great time with my grandparents and aunt. They treated me like I am always a little girl. There fore, I

could have lots of gifts from them, like clothes, toys, antiquities, and even traveling out of country with them. I hope they

always doing well and have good health.

I started school when I was 7. I had a lot fun at school. The education system is a little bit different from western

countries. The time schedule is like this: 6 years in elementary school, 3 years in junior high, 3 years in high school or you

can choose 5 years college, and then the university.

As a student, I tried to get good grades at school. Hotel and Restaurant Management was my favorite subject in

college, because it includes administration, financial, accounting, human resource, marketing, and production. I can gain

lots of knowledge from this class. Whenever a chance arises to participate in anything related to it, I will do so

wholeheartedly.

During my studies, I joined the tennis club. I really enjoyed participating in school activities. Besides the school

activities, I also did extracurricular part time jobs, like cashier, waitress, line cook, food tasting, and real estate assistant.

These jobs were also related to my major, I could put into practice what I learned. I not only made many friends from work,

but also gained many different valuable experiences which also made my life more meaningful and colorful.

Chapter 2 ~ My Life Now

Life for me has changed since the end of 2006. At that period, my life became very interesting and meaningful.

That was my second time came to the U.S. because of the International Internship Program. This was a whole new

life for me to work outside of my home country. The company I have been work for was Hallmark Aviation. Hallmark

Aviation is like a Human Resource Company. It controlled most of the airlines’ agents in San Francisco International

Airport. Finally, I got a chance to work for EVA Airways and New Zealand Airline.

For the trainee, there was a punch of things and knowledge needed to learn. Even the career was related to my

major. Things like: how to provide the best service in real situations, how to read the tickets information, communicated

with customers, etc. But I really enjoyed getting the professional training and making friends. A majority of the agents were

from different countries and age levels. At that working environment, I could gain the different cultures and found out what

kinds of languages the spoke. That was an excited thing for me.

At that time, I wasn’t date someone so my colleague introduced a guy to me. The first time we met were held by

colleague at restaurant after work. The thing is very funny because I thought they were just kidding, but that day came I

was really amazed with them. They did it for me for really. I remember that day it was in the early morning; 2 A.M. Though

I was tired from work, I was still hoping the gathering was a good idea. Guess what! I think we fallen in love at first sight

and have good images with each other. Hence we started written E-mail, text messages and the hang out. Actually he

lived in San Francisco for almost 20 years and moved to Oceanside 5 years ago because of his career. In this case, He

flew back to San Francisco every other weekend just wanted to see me. The way he did it made me felt so touching

because taking flight is the worst thing for him. After date for few months, I thought I had found the love of my life. It’s the

kind of love that made my passion burn with unquenchable desire.

We decided to flown back to our home country –Taiwan to discuss the wedding details with my family. But bad thing

happened. After the visiting, I couldn’t go back to U.S. and finish my internship because the visa issue. So he flew back to

the U.S. alone. That was the worst moment for us. The thing didn’t go very well. I tried to apply the U.S. visa for 3 times

but the only answer from officer was “Rejected”. I felt so painful; even the company tried to get the exchanged visa for me

but it didn’t work.

All these occurrences were very sudden and really let me feel loneliness. Therefore, two families told us to

registered the marriage in Taiwan first and then apply for the visa. Even though this was a tough situation for us, we still

kept going on and believing tomorrow will be better.

After 8 months of marriage, we had finally live together. I was very excited of my new life in the U.S. It was not only

I could spend rest of my life with my husband but also have a chance to experience new country.

Since I am here without family for 6 months, I had to learn how to be independent. Before marry, I really didn’t like

to do the chores, but since I am married, things have been changing. Right now I like to do all the stuff besides wash the

car. Also I have progressed in culinary skills lately.

I am so immersed in this life right now. Studying, cooking, baking, taking care of the household, and exercising are

part of my life. Someday, we might even hear footsteps of little feet running up and down in the house or on the way to

school. This is my new challenge and I give it all I can.

Chapter 3 ~ My Future Hopes and Dreams

The “future” for me is like an unknown world, but the fact is that time goes by and I really need to be serious about

my future life. I hope my future life will be filled with happiness, vigor, and a youthful spirit.

I think for most women their life goal has a fairy tale happy ending. Find a good man, have a successful career,

own estate, and raise children or pets. For me, I have my own fairy tale opening –a wonderful husband, but for the rest of

the story, I must that it be worth.

For the next few months, I am going to continue the studying English, and then apply to graduate school and major

in business. This is the goal that I always keep in my mind when I was a student. For some reasons I didn’t pass the

graduate school test in my country. At that time, I was depressed. Inasmuch as I have a chance here, why not do the best

and try it? But the most important thing that I need to do in a short time is improve English skills before applying to the

school.

Graduate school should be very hard work for me. I will be dealing with thesis, presentations, and lots of meetings.

To attain my goal, I must make a point of training my skills and mind. This is a competition of physical strength and mental

power, but a marathon of patience, faith and perseverance. Even the proverb says “A contented mind is a perpetual

feast.” But I still need to do the best to reach the life goal.

After I get a master degree, I will be working at an international marketing company. Maybe few years later, I will be

promoting to project manager. In that case, I am going to be a soccer mom with a successful career. Every day will be

exciting and challenging. The things below are going to be part of my life: Taking care of family’s meals, attending to

child’s school activities or talent competitions, like “Spelling Bee”, reading every single report thoroughly, conducting

weekly staff meeting, etc. Although these things are kind of chores, but I think I will love it, because my husband will

always be my anchor.

I am going to move into a fashionable designed house. The house will look spacious, but not crazy big. The ivy

climbing up the front porch, and my lovely pug will be sprawled out on the super green lawn.

And the drive way is made from limestone. My husband’s favorite car will be parked on the drive way. The island

type of kitchen will equipped with modern appliances. At weekends, the house is going to be full of the smell of roast

chicken or cookies, and the corridors will be lined with framed photos of my family.

The house design will like simple European style. The colors is vibrant inside and out-white, black, green, purple

and pink. The wainscoting is stained by my husband and it’s beautiful. There is going to be a pool on the back yard.

Weekends we can hear the kid play around or learn how to swim. Kid will have own room. Posters will decorate the wall.

Stuffed animals and toys from Disneyland are on the boxes, bed.

Things are not always easy. I may have some worries. I will worry about him constantly. I worry about the child, is

he or she happy. Even my kid will infuriate me sometimes, but he never makes me regret or shrink from love’s joyous and

spacious offices.

Chapter 4 ~ After the End

In Taiwan, most of people believe in Buddhism or Taoism. For me, I was a Buddhist since I was a child. Our family

celebrated some special holidays Buddhist way; at that case, I gained considerable Buddhist knowledge from them.

We all think that good people afterlife will be going to heaven, and people who are grievously sinful will be going to

hell when they die. The traditional funeral of Buddhist combine the death person’s pity with the people who alive their

wishes. We hold the ceremony for seven days, so relatives can look at the person who died with reverence. After 7 days,

the body is cremation or put a coffin on the ground.

Buddhist believed that people do not become ghosts after death. After death, depending on a person’s merit of life,

they will travel one of six paths. The most fortunate will go to heaven; those less chance will become humans with normal

lives. Others will become beasts, animals, hungry ghosts, or travel the road to hell. We believe it is very disrespectful to

treat a deceased soul as a ghost immediately after death. Although in Taiwan, popular beliefs like Taoism, Buddhism, and

Page 12: Chin Hui Autobiography

Confucianism are all mixed together today. But we all need to follow the old proverb which says “While drinking water,

always think back to the source.”

For me, success means fulfilling one’s dream. Whatever your dreams are, for you have a goal, then focus all your

attention on it. I believe the most important thing for present stage is to set a goal and try to reach it since time waited for

no one.

Dreams can bring you hope and happiness. In this period, you may struggling for it, cry, complain, or even worse.

But the joy of harvesting will make you forget all the pain and troubles you have gone through.

The most important aspect to success is “knowledge.” As everyone says, “knowledge is power.” There is nothing

more important than received education. Therefore, knowledge plays an important role in our nest. Next, you have to

make a plan for your goal and start doing it. Even if the process is sometimes tough, you need to keep going, and be

patient. With this will and determination, success is sure to wait for you at the end of the tunnel.
