THE CHALLENGE: The 87 th Medical Group at McGuire Air Force Base was in need of a new chiller system at their outpatient medical treatment facility. The existing chillers were oversized as the facility was originally constructed as an ambulatory surgical center. The mechanical equipment was sized for N+1 redundancy, meaning that either chiller could support the entire building. When the facility was converted to a business occupancy medical clinic, it no longer required the same level of redundancy. THE SOLUTION: Kroeschell competitively bid the work to their prime contractor partner and was selected to complete the chiller replacement project. Kroeschell installed the following equipment: Two (2) 250 ton Carrier 19XRV centrifugal chillers Two (2) new variable speed primary pumps The old chilled water system was a constant volume pumping system that produced inefficient use of chilled water and caused high energy costs. Kroeschell replaced the old centrifugal chillers with two (2) new centrifugal chillers that are sized for 60% of the building load each. This allows the chillers to operate more efficiently. Kroeschell also converted the chilled water distribution system to a variable primary pump system to further maximize energy efficiency. The chillers were replaced during the winter months to avoid impact to the mission of the 87th Medical Group. THE RESULTS: Kroeschell completed the project on time and on budget and did so without disrupting daily operations. The newly installed chillers meet present energy standards and are compliant with ASHRAE 90.1, the design basis for energy. Kroeschell has proven to be a true design-build mechanical contractor. Both the facility and prime contracting partner can look to Kroeschell for all necessary services, including construction and design. THE CHALLENGE:

The 87th Medical Group at McGuire Air Force Base was in need of a new chiller system at their outpatient medical treatment facility.

THE SOLUTION:

Kroeschell competitively bid the work to their prime contractor partner and was selected to complete the chiller replacement project.

Kroeschell installed the following equipment:

• Two (2) 250 ton Carrier 19XRV centrifugal chillers• Two (2) new variable speed primary pumps

The old chilled water system was a constant volume pumping system that produced inefficient use of chilled water and caused high energy costs.

THE RESULTS:

Kroeschell completed the project on time and on budget and did so without disrupting daily operations.
