NEED IN OUR AREA

In the Coarsegold and Oakhurst area there aren’t any sit down, have a good time coffee shops.

Many people want to be able to go, grab a cup of coffee, and hang out in a safe, friendly environment.

“Nice to find a little independent shop in the middle of nowhere.” (Yelp 6/8/2008)

Olivia Graffigna

CURRENTLY

Currently in the Oakhurst and Coarsegold area there is a Zanders coffee and a Starbucks.

“I think it would be really nice to have somewhere to hang out after school.” (Katrina Moore)

There are pros and cons to any coffee shop, lets look at some....

Olivia Graffigna

ZANDERS VS. US

Pros to Zanders: fast, drive-through, decent prices.

Cons to Zanders: no place to hang out, processed ingredients.

What makes us different: We would have even better prices, fresh not as processed ingredients, and we would have a place to sit down, have a good time, and relax.

Olivia Graffigna

STARBUCKS VS. US

“The service is terrible here. The Manager is Very Very Rude. and Slow. Did I Mention how slow everyone is here?” (David P.)

Pros: place to sit and relax

Cons: high prices and processed ingredients

We would be different from other coffee shops because we would have decent prices, and we would also have quality, fresh ingredients.

WHAT OUR BUSINESS IS

“I think it would be really nice to have somewhere to hang out after school.” (Katrina Moore)

“I would like to have a greener coffee place to get coffee on the weekends.” (Grant Hall)

Our idea was a coffee shop that teenagers and adults can hang out at.

We would work at the coffee shop to start out, but eventually we would hire more people.

We could also help out other people who are trying to sell their stuff by letting them display their items at our coffee shop.

Silvia Sanguinetti

HOW IT WILL BE DIFFERENT

“Starbucks goes through roughly 2.3 billion paper cups a year... the cups themselves aren't recyclable here or in most other cities nationwide.” (Conrad, 2007)

This isn’t very eco-friendly, so we thought that we would sell reusable travel mugs and cups instead of paper cups.

Silvia Sanguinetti

RUNNING THE BUSINESS

“The interior floor, sides, and top of the FOOD holding area shall be constructed of a SMOOTH, washable, impervious material capable of withstanding frequent cleaning.” ‘(California Retail Food Code)

There are many laws about how clean your restaurant is, so we would have to concentrate a lot on how our coffee is prepared and how well we clean everything.

We made sure to include everything that we would need to keep our place clean.

Silvia Sanguinetti

COFFEE BEANS

“Great for espresso, cappuccino and latte, this is a European medium dark roast of Central and South American beans.” (Bulk Coffee Direct)

After awhile of researching coffee beans, I came across this website where I found great quality coffee beans for a low price of 274 dollars for fifty pounds.

ICE BIN“Ice Bin, with top-hinged front-opening door, approximately 290 lb. ice storage capacity, for top-mounted ice maker, stainless steel exterior” (Ebay)

When you are thinking of running a business, you need to think of time management. If we didn’t buy an ice bin, it would cost us our time to fill up ice trays and time to pull out the ice. This enables us to have more time in areas needed.

WHIPPING CREAM

"How to make basic whipped cream. For best results make sure whisk and bowl are ice cold." (All Recipes Paula)

When we thought of things we would need, we had to think very specifically, like whipping cream to make whipped cream.

Tips like this will give our whipped cream a better taste and make it more original.

CONCLUSION

When you are thinking about opening a business you need to think of everything that you will possibly need from sugar to coffee cups, and all of your budgets and how much money it will cost you. You have to make sure that you are following all of the laws about what kind of business you are trying to start, especially if your business has anything to do with food. Also, you need to think of the consumer, the coffee needs to be in a friendly environment where people can come and hang out.
