The playground at Memorial Park is used by children around Huntington in the summer and spring months. In front of the playground near the road is an airplane and a tank to honor those who have and are serving in the Armed forces.

The sledding hill at Memorial Park is a classic place to be when school is cancelled due to too much snow accumulation. Also, the area is more open because the leaves have fallen off of all the trees in theWinter.

During fall the leaves start to change color with the help of photosynthesis. During the warm, sunny months, photosynthesis absorbs sunlight to produce sugars to feed the tree. At the same time, it is storing it in the roots for winter. So, during fall the leaves change color and die because they cannot sustain life in the harsh winter months.

The Frisbee golf course at Memorial Park is open to the public all day every day. There are 18 holes of fun that stream throughout the whole park! At the beginning of every hole is a cement block for contenders to stand on as well as a par and route to the hole.

Pond

At Memorial Park there are two simple natural resources for guests to enjoy. Although you cannot fish in them, the ponds are used for an attraction and a water source for the animals around the park. The living and non-living factor relating to the population of fish and the ponds are great because the pond houses the fish and is a key resource to other animals around the park.

Key to the pond is the water cycle- it circulates water between the ocean, land, and the atmosphere. Included in this is precipitation as rain and snow falling to the earth, then draining into streams and rivers. The water is then sent back into the atmosphere using evaporation and transpiration.

Woods

The woods at Memorial Park are full of various natural resources such as dirt and many trees. In the woods there are dirt trails and wooden bridges giving you a wonderful view of the ponds.

Inside the woods there are many different types of trees, along with that adds numerous colors to the park during the fall months. This is because of photosynthesis. It is constantly changing the colors of the trees from season to season. In the summer, maple tree leaves are green, but in the fall they turn a tint of orange/yellow/red. While a pine tree is an evergreen; it is green during all seasons.

The basketball courts at Memorial Park are equipped for all ages. Near the main court is a smaller basketball goal that is about 7 feet tall for children. Therefore, you can hoop it up with your younger or older siblings with ease.

Tennis Courts

Here at Memorial Park there are four tennis courts for everyone to enjoy during the summer. The courts are beside the Sunken Garden as well as the

creek to add a beautiful view while volleying back and forth.

To increase the beauty of the view, there are many trees and rocks with animals using both as a shelter and/or a food source located behind the courts. This is an example of how living and non-living things interact with one another. Small animalshide or live in the rocks,showing how living and non-living organisms are ina constant flux.

Creek

Extending most of the length of Memorial Park, the creek adds a peaceful elegance to the view. There are trails for you to walk near it, as well as bridges to cross it. Small fish and crawfish call this creek home.

A common threat to organisms in the creek are humans. They are constantly leaving trash all over the park which then goes into the creek and releasing harmful chemicals killing organisms. But, on the other hand, volunteers are also cleaning up the park for community service.

Sunken Garden

The main attraction at Memorial Park- The Sunken Gardens, is a unique place. It used to be a limestone quarry which was then converted to a beautiful garden. Inside is a pavilion, willow tree, pond with fountains, and bridges connected to trails. Activities to do here is have picnics, look at all the flowers, or even have a wedding!

History: Renovator was Martin Koch, he was given $4,485 to repair any damages

Shakespeare Garden

Near the Sunken Gardens, the Shakespeare Garden contains flowers from England. Included to the Garden is a pavilion as well as a bridge with a beautiful view of the Sunken Garden.

Fun Fact: Memorial Park was named Cold Spring Woods until August 7, 1928. This is the same year the Shakespeare Garden was installed.

Horseshoe Pit

Close to the Frisbee Golf Course there is a horseshoe playing area with lights. Many tournaments are held here every year, as well as families and friends enjoy playing in their free time. Added to the ten pits is a wooden backstop and a scoreboard to use.
