Me and theWorldAn Infographic story

Mireia Trius and Joana Casals

Graphics and visualisations give us a method to use images to describe a story in a way that we can understand.

This is a little story where a girl describes her little world, her daily life, her famiy, school, the breakfast she eats, clothes she wears and routines compared to the big world through information data graphics and visualisations.

There is a data revolution taking place across the globe right now. From journalism to government, the world’s stories are being told through numbers and facts. But while we treat this as something that only applies to adults, it belongs to everyone. And the younger it starts, the better.

If children want to comprehend the world around them, infographics can do that.

COMMON NAMES

JAPANBreakfast includes a dish of “natto” (fermented soy), miso soup, “Tamagoyaki” (rolled omelette, a small piece of grilled salmon and rice or a type porridge called “okayu”.

TURKEYA traditional breakfast consists of bread, cheeses, butter, olives, eggs, tomatoes, cucumbers, jam, honey, and “Kaymak” (clotted cream). It can also include sucuk, a spicy Turkish sausage, and Turkish tea.

FRANCEThe traditional breakfast is the “tartine” (open baguette) with butter and jam or “Croissant”. It is also typical to eat crepes, orange juice and some fruit.

MALAWIIn the African nation of Malawi, breakfast of a child usually includes a lot of corn products including “Phala” (corn flour porridge) and “chikondamoyo” (corn bread cake), and boiled potato. An hibiscus and sugar juice completes their breakfast.

BRAZILKids start the day with bread, ham and cheese. The “Bisnaguinha”, a sweet bread, with “requeijao”, a very soft creamy cheeseis also common. “Feijoada”, a soup made with thick black beans and different meats, is also served in the morning. Some kids even take a little coffee.

HOLLANDA sweet breakfast with a glass of milk or “karnemelk” (buttermilk), a slice of bread with butter and a thick layer of “hagelslag” (chocolate confectionery sprinkles).

SPAINIn my region “Pa amb tomaquet” is a typical savoury breakfast, consisting of toasted country bread with grated tomato and olive oil. For a treat, many restaurants and vendors sell “churros” with hot chocolate.

GERMANYGerman kids generally start the day with an assortment of fresh breads, coald meats, local cheeses, butter and jam.

MEXICOThe first meal of the day is hearty, with dishes like “chilaquiles” and “huevos rancheros” being popular choices. Sweet rolls and coffee are lighter options.

ICELAND“Hafragrautur” (warm oatmeal porridge) that is usually served with brown sugar, butter and maple syrup and “Surmjolk” (soured milk). Due to the shortage of sunlight, Icelandic mothers give a tablespoon of “lysy” (cod’s liver oil) to the children at breakfast.

CHINATraditional breakfasts vary by region, but the combination of fried dough sticks (or “you tiao”) and warm soy milk is beloved by millions. Dim sum and hot soups like congee are also popular.

I THOUGHT THAT CHILDREN

AROUND THE WORLD ATE

THE SAME FOOD AS WE DO FOR

UKThe full English breakfast includes eggs, sausages (bangers), bacon, cooked beans, mushrooms, tomatoes and fried bread.

BUT IS NOT THAT WAY! IT’S AMAZING! DID YOU KNOW THAT IN KOREA, KIDS MIGHT HAVE SOUP

DRINK HIBISCUS JUICE AND IN BRAZIL THEY MIGHT EVEN DRINK COFFEE!BREAKFASTThis i

Aina Bestard

There are lots of different kinds of animals living on earth. That means that there are lots of very different kinds of baby animals!

Humans, elephants, cats, mice, pigs, rhi-noceroses, gorillas, and many other animals are mammals. Most baby mammals grow inside their mother until they are born. Rep-tiles, birds and amphibians usually lay eggs. Fish also lay many many eggs -sometimes millions of tiny eggs!

This sweet book, made out of delicate illus-trations playing with transparencies, shows the miracle of Birth and New Life.

Have you ever wanted to be a police sketch artist? Well, now you can by using this book to create faces of suspects.

An Identikit picture is a drawing of a suspect's face constructed from the description of a witness. Police uses this technique to quickly find the suspect, distributing the image to the greatest number of people. Thus, you can recognize a particular person from the drawing and phone the police to help solve the case.

The book provides a large number of possibili-ties to create different faces combining the diferent flip pages.

You can create different combinations and make different faces to find the suspect as you flip the flaps.

RGB technique consists in overlapping three dif-ferent images, each one in a primary color.

The resulting images from this three level superim-position are intriguing. The colors mix up, the lines and shapes entwine becoming oneiric and magi-cal. Through a filter of colored transparent material it is possible to clearly see one of the layers and discover an unexpected image. The filter’s colors are red, green and blue and each one of them serves to reveal one of the three levels.

What's Hidden in the BodyAina Bestard

The human body is a brilliant machine with many important parts. It is composed of organs that are part of different body systems that allow the human body to work.

This fabulous book reveals the inner workings of the human body by looking inside of it using the green, blue and red magic magnifying glasses.

The different illustrations will explain children that blood is the fluid that keeps our bodies going. They will discover that there are millions of little cells in a blood drop, that cells are the basic unit of life and each type of cell is different and performs a differ-ent function. And that even the bones have their special cells!

A great book for children to discover what’s hidden in our bodies!

The most special cell of all is the egg that grows inside your mother.

When the egg is fertilized, it takes nine months to grow and change into a baby.

Once upon a time, you were just a tiny little egg!

Good NightLittle...Visual bedtime stories

Bàrbara Castro Urío

A small fish has 12 holes in front of him, one of each colour. First of all he eats the yellow hole, and becomes a yellow fish. After eating the orange hole, he becomes an orange fish. So he goes on and on eating all the holes until he becomes a black fish. Now he is as big and dark as the night!

Children can interact with the holes by putting their little fingers in. Adults can make different interpretations every time they tell the story.

Do your kids always ask for stories when they go to bed?

Reading bedtime stories to children every night is beneficial as the practice improves Parent to child bonding.

These three books will help parents share quality time with the kids by looking at these wonderful visual stories.

Good NightHouse Cats

New

On the top of a white big mountain lived a polar bear. One day a strong sound came from inside the earth. The bear was very scared and ran away. The sky turned orange.

And afterwards red.

And then turned pink.

The bear was still scared and continued running.

Then the sky turned purple and he stopped. He couldn’t understand what was happening.

A red cat got into a big house and went to find a room to rest. At the same time a green cat arrived next to the door.

He was also tired and went and laid in his room. Meanwhile a blue cat was getting close to the house.

While a black cat was ar-riving, the blue cat went to his room.

The same happened with the yellow cat.

And with the green cat.

But… where did the green cat go?

Three Little Pigs

Everyone knows about traditional stories, but there is an added excitement to enthu-siastically retell the tale. This activity is a wonderful way for kids to get really involved in the story.

Despite all the digital games available to children, they will find that old-fashioned imaginative play is still king. Puppets are a fantastic starting point and it doesn't take much to put on your own puppet show.

With this puppet theatre book your child can tell the story of the Three Little Pigs and also be part of it. They can move the char-acters as puppets, represent the scenes and play the different roles.
