Children’s author steams into St Anne’s

Children’s author and former newspaper editor Peter Barron visited St Anne’s to give an interactive reading of his latest book.

Peter, 55, the former editor of The Northern Echo, gave a fun presentation in assembly of his new rhyming story Darly’s Magical History Tour.

In the book, Darly, a brave little steam train, goes back in time through a series of enchanted tunnels.

Along the way, his young passengers meet various characters from history and Peter had pupils playing the parts of World War One soldiers, railway pioneers, King Henry VIII, Roman centurions, a T-rex and a pterodactyl.

Peter, who nows represents Darlington Building Society as a literacy ambassador, said: “It was great fun visiting St Anne’s and the children really got into the spirit of the book.”

Peter is planning to return to the school on World Book Day on March 1 to run a workshop with his illustrator, Jonathan Raiseborough, on the theme of “heroes”.

Well done to the ECO pupil voice team this week

who led a brilliant assembly on Tuesday. They

launched our elephant competition to coincide

with our WWF adoption and revealed the

winning classroom following their undercover

energy audit! Congratulations to Mrs Johnson

and year 4 this time for coming out on top! All

classes received a report so they know what they

have to improve on for next time!
