indigents, destitute, beggars, prisoners and ex-convicts etc.

    OVERVIEW

Volunteer is someone who gives time, effort and talent to a need or cause without profiting

monetarily. I started my volunteer service with the major view to help others and to contribute to

the society. In addition as we were doing volunteer work in a hospital, I was very keen to learn

more about the medical profession and to be the part of the team dedicated to provide quality

health services. We were committed to work from 9 am to 2 pm daily, 6 days a week. I had in

my mind that I will assist patients, visitors and provide clinical assistance to the hospital`s

    administrative offices.

    SCOPE OF VIS ACTIVITIES

    Introduction to VIS Program:

VIS activities are designed to give assistance and support to the hospital faculty and to

allow the volunteers to open new horizons for them. They have the responsibilities to

participate in community service projects with enthusiasm and commitment. The

volunteers should only do what they are qualified to do and handle competently. The

volunteers provide feedback to the organization after fulfilling their work activities. The

volunteers learn a lot from volunteer service programs that is very beneficial for their

    future professional lives.

The volunteers must be given equal opportunities regardless of their religion, race and

socioeconomic status. The programs are clearly explained to all the volunteers. A

supervisor must be there to assist and lead all the volunteers in doing their designated

tasks and the volunteers must feel free to ask anything from their supervisor. The

volunteers must be regarded as a person with individuality, uniqueness and values.

    Focus Areas:

Our focus areas have been helping the management organize their work in a better way

and incorporate a tinge of modern technology support and its essence into their work else

than this we also helped them better analyze the way they can target masses for

contributing to the funds for the help of these poor patients

Another area of focus was the patients and their attendants going close to them giving

them a sense of affiliation and support and helping them in knowing what they were

experiencing and consoling them at times and at times making them realize the systems

    and their importance

It was another pleasant morning and the day was started in the office with the verses of Quran.

Today the new task was presented in front of us and that Donation Compaign. I was assigned to

another task along with my group members and that was the Donation Campaign Planning.

We along with our immediate supervisor Mr. Abdu-ur-Rehman and main supervisor Miss

Block and Emergency Block Completely to decide where the charts should be pasted for the

donation campaign. However the other group members were assigned other Donation related

Activities. The main thing to be decided was to whom the Donation request has to be sent. For

that purpose the previous donors with the donation amount greater than Rs 5000 were decided to

    be taken under consideration.

After submitting my list to the supervisor Mr. Abdu-ur Rehman, we decided the final locations,

and it was decided that at least 20 charts are required for this purpose. For that purpose I was

    supposed to prepare 8 charts.

    Thursday

    21st July, 2011

The whole day was very hectic in a sense we had to do a number of things especially for the sake

of the donation campaign. For this purpose, we were supposed to complete the charts.

Our whole VIS Group and another group from Punjab University (comprising of Miss Fareeha

and Saira) along with Mr. Abdu-ur-Rehman decided some quotations to be written on charts with

the donation requests. This list of quotations was then approved by Miss Sumera Rahim. Wecontinued our activity till 2:00pm.

    SUMMING UP

The major activities which we done in the hospital were Complaints collection, Donation

campaign, file work and ward visit however we also dealt with the people , tried to resolve their

worries, helped them in their forms and guided them on different issues.

The complaints were collected from both the wards and all the laymen sitting outside the wards

and on the outskirts of the hospital. The major complaint there was about the hygienic problem

in the hospital. There was no place for dumping the wastes properly and the smelly caf and

wards were no place to go.

The donation campaign was launched to collect the donations from the wealthy people to help

the poor patients in the hospital. We made charts for that donation campaign, went to the patients

who deserved and noted their particulars.

All These activities provided us a new way of thinking how the things are done practically. It

was really good experience of interacting directly with the people.

    LESSON LEARNT

By volunteering for this service and experiencing we came close to the life we have never

imagined and thus it has been one memorable experience which built a sense of trust in us that

not all but at least some governmental departments are really working

Except from the above this experience also opened our eyes that he ignorant these poor people

are and how easy it is to fool them. Knowing this made us realize that our country is in desperate

need of education and more over awareness and we set our eyes on doing something that can

make these people know at least a little about these diseases and make us contribute towards the

society we are a part of .

These experiences also made us realize the importance of Zakat, donations and other funds we in

a way came to know the real value of money the 10 rupee note we just throw away sometimes

means life for these people and this shake our souls and make us commit for the betterment of

    the society

    RECOMMENDATIONS AND SUGGESTIONS

In our views the department needs a lot of changes

Upgrading the systems Making the systems swift by use of technology Record keeping can be made a lot easier through technology Processing of information and transactions can be made easier with technology Government needs to publicize and allocate a certain amount of advertisement space to

    these departments

Better use of advertisement can help the department gather better funds

    VIEWS ABOUT ORGANIZATION/DEPARTMENT

The department has a nice functioning and is pretty useful and contributes a lot to save lives butthe amount of authority the top ranked people in the department have is low and the systems are

still that on 1980s huge files apart from that the problems they face are different the patients run

away sometimes without informing while there were huge amounts that were invested in them

another problem is the staff operating is not well paid neither well qualified to upgrade the

systems and make them quick and easy for its a matter of lives but still the efforts being put in

by the people are great and they are doing whatever they can to help the people and they are

contributing their best to the society
