Our region is made up of 66 schools in central and northern Nova Scotia, stretching from the New Brunswick border to the Antigonish County line and from the Northumberland Strait to the Halifax Regional Municipality. CANADA DAY

Inclement Weather ProcessOccasionally, weather conditions can impact school bus service and school operations – especially in the winter. When it is stormy or road conditions are poor, CCRCE Transportation Services staff will determine if we will maintain bus and school operations as usual, maintain bus services on paved roads only, or close schools. Separate cancellations and closures may occur for each of our four families of schools (Celtic, Chignecto, Cobequid, and Nova).

What to do if it is stormy or road conditions are poor:• Check if your school is open and buses are running before you send your children to the bus stop or bring them

to school.

• Find out if buses are cancelled or if schools are closed by monitoring your local radio or television stations or check CCRCE’s website: www.ccrce.ca, Twitter feed (@CCRCE_NS) and Facebook page: @CCRCE. CCRCE makes every effort to post information to our website/social media and contact local media by 6:30 a.m.

• We ask that parents, guardians and students avoid calling schools on storm days, whenever possible.

If there are cancellations within the region, the green “schools open” button on our website will be changed to red and will read “schools closed”. By clicking on this button you can access up-to-date information regarding closure and cancellation information.

School closures during the dayCCRCE rarely cancels school mid-day due to weather or road conditions. However, there may be other factors, such as power outages, that may result in a school closing unexpectedly during the day.

For the rare occasion CCRCE closes school early, we recommend parents and guardians keep their contact information up-to-date with schools and have alternate arrangements in place for their children. Should a mid-day closure occur, parents/guardians will be notified either directly (in the case of elementary schools), via local media, our website and social media.

Have a question or concern? Not sure where to start or who to call?

• To share a concern or a question that is classroom-based, parents/guardians should first speak with their child’s teacher. If a resolution is not reached at that time, then contact the school Principal.

• To share a concern or a question that is of a different nature, parents/guardians should first speak with their school’s Principal. If a resolution is not reached at that time, then contact their Family of Schools Supervisor.

In most instances, concerns and issues are resolved through an informal process of conversation and collaboration. This process will occur as quickly as possible, and may involve multiple conversations and exchanges of information and ideas at the school level. CCRCE values a relational approach where your voice will be included in our work towards a solution.If you feel your concern has not been resolved at the school, please contact the Family of Schools Supervisor in your area.
