The tree becomes enchanted and sprouts a peach that is the size of house. Even the bugs and worms inside the peach grow -- they are huge!” Favorite Sport: Indoor soccer Favorite Hobby: Playing Xbox video gamesFavorite Food: Cheese pizza topped with pineapple and jalapenos E-mail James at [email protected] to say hi or to ask for a good book recommendation!

YOUR KIDS… AND VEGETABLESThe Big Friendly Giant, a character in Roald Dahl’s book The BFG, refuses to be a mean “human bean”-eating eating giant; instead, he eats only disgusting vegetables called snozzcumbers. Not all vegetables are disgusting! Moreover, vegetables are a necessary part of a healthy diet. Here are some tips to turn your family’s picky eaters into veggie-lovers:1. Enjoy (or at least pretend to enjoy) vegetables in front of your kids.

If you crinkle your nose at the sight of a brussel sprout, it is likely your children will, too.  Be a healthy role model. Eat vegetables and your children will get the message that veggies are nutritious and delicious!

2. Serve vegetables as an appetizer before a mealDoes your kid complain that she is STARVING before dinner?  Give her baby carrots or chopped veggies while you cook.  Make vegetables the only snack option and she is more likely to eat them.

3. Serve vegetables in funny designsZucchini may not seem fun, but put it on a plate in the shape of a smiley face and suddenly it is incredibly amusing.  Presentation can make a big difference.

4. Sneak vegetables into every mealGet creative with family meals. Add spinach to a soup. Puree vegetables and beans to fill a burrito. Mix broccoli into macaroni and cheese.

5. Serve vegetables with a new, healthy dipYou are not helping your child by feeding him vegetables that are smothered in full-fat ranch dressing.  Serve pepper strips, snap peas, and other veggies with a small amount of hummus or guacamole.
