Most of us raised in the Western World are imprinted with

similar ethical and moral standards. We learned them

from the schools or churches we attended or observed

them in action in our family situations, and we picked them

up from our acquaintances in the business world and on

the street. Whatever, our concepts of fairness tend to be

very much alike. Few of us can walk through life without

believing that what we’re doing is for the good of mankind-

or “people kind”. That’s why, if you lay morality on people

in an unqualified way, it may often work. And if you throw

yourself on their mercy without defense or pretense there’s

a chance they may succumb. Why? Because they can relate

to you and are hesitant to take advantage of someone who

is truly defenseless. Even if someone has the law on his side

and theoretically can crush you, if you say, “You can do

anything you want with me… but would it be the right

thing?” your appeal for mercy has a fighting chance. This

is true even in the judicial system. Defendants sometimes

throw themselves on the mercy of courts, and courts

occasionally grant mercy. For example, a defendant,

standing before a judge, may plead, “Judge, would putting

me behind bars for a long time be the right thing? I have a

wife. By sending me away, you’re only penalizing them.

Judge, I don’t mind taking my punishment, but think of

what a long sentence would do to my family.

Judge, I know I deserve to be sent away forever for this

crime, but would it be the right thing for my innocent

family?” Chances are, the judge will think long and hard

about sentencing. Will this type of appeal work with people

who have different values in other cultures? No. People

who are programmed in ways alien to us, such as

fundamentalist Shiite Muslims, can’t comprehend our

concepts of forgiveness, cheek turning, and extended olive

branches. What they understand is power, opportunism,

and revenge. Don’t be made a sucker by such people. You

should deal with people based on their frame of references.

However, most people you come into contact with share

your background. So if someone close to you__ your

spouse, your boss, or a subordinate, for instance__shafts

you by putting you down, letting you down, taking a cheap

shot, exercising malicious obedience, or not doing what he

or she promised, ask the other party if it was fair and right.

Not surprisingly, that question shakes up even the most

worldly, self-seeking, and jaded.

On behalf of NCC wing of our college an awareness programme on “Natural Food” on 12

th

February 2013. Shri. Swami Nagalinganar President,Tamilnadu Naturopathy Association

was the Chief Guest of the programme. All the Cadets got benefitted through the valuable

address by the Chief Guest. Lt.J.Ganesan, ANO of our college executed the programme in a

grand manner.

A special weapon training programme was conducted for second year NCC cadets on

06.03.2013.

Mr.B.Ramesh kumar, AP/Maths published an international journal entitled as “A

Proposed New algorithm in FDP” – ESTIJ –Vol (13) – Feb 2013(impact factor 0.225) and

also published another international journal entitled as “New Optimal Solution to Fuzzy

Interval Transportation Problem “–ESTIJ –Vol (3) –Feb 2013 (impactor factor 0.225).

Mrs.S.P.N.Nirmaladevi, AP/Maths attended a two day National level Seminar on

“Alegebra, Topology and their Applications” and Presented a paper on “Left Derivations

and Applications on semirings” at Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College, sivakasi on 11th

and

12th

March 2013.

In the annals of Sree Sowdambika College of Engineering it was a gold lettered day that an

Offer Letter Distribution Day was held on 18th

March 2013. The grandeur of the function is

that it was conducted in the newly built Auditorium of our college which holds 1500 capacity.

Also it is the first of its kind that such a programme was conducted with the solid efforts taken

by the Placement and Training Cell along with the Management and the Principal of our college.

Shri.Lakshmi Narasimhan, Head, Southern Region, Times Business Solution Limited,

Bangalore was the Chief-Guest and he distributed the offers to the placed students.

Each Oxygen cylinder on an average cost Rs 700, without subsidy.

So in a day one uses Oxygen worth Rs 2100 and for a full year it is Rs 7, 66,500.

If we consider an average life span of 65 years; the cost of oxygen we use become a staggering sum of Rs 500, 00,000. That is Rs 50 million.

At this Oxygen is derived free of cost from the surrounding trees.

Very few people look at trees as a resource and there is rampart tree cutting going on everywhere which should stop.
