3500 VALVELON® PRODUCT DATA SHEET APPLICATION AREAS Valve Stems & Fittings Gasketing Flanges KEY FEATURES AND BENEFITS 100% PTFE Non-toxic Unlimited shelf life Non-Hardening High tensile strength Reduces packing and gaskets inventory Conforms to surface shapes PACKAGING 3/32" x 50' (2,4 mm x 15,3 mm) 5/32" x 35' (4,0 mm x 10,7 mm) 7/32" x 15' (5,6 mm x 4,6 mm) 9/32" x 9' (7,1 mm x 2,7 mm) DIRECTIONS Valve Stems: Remove old packing. Clean off loose material from stem. Unwind Chesterton 3500 and cut just long enough for a particular application. Wrap 3500 around the stem to fill stuffing box. Tighten down the follower nut. If nut or packing gland bottoms out, back the nut off, add another wrap of 3500 and retighten. Not recommended in valves if the pressure in the equipment exceeds 35 kg/cm 2 . Flange Faces: Remove old gasket. Clean off any gasket residues on the flange face. Using a single strand of 3500, form a loop around the surface to be sealed. Wrap around each bolt, overlapping the ends. Recommended for applications up to 35kg/ cm 2 . Chesterton ® 3500 Valvelon ® can be used with steam, salt water, air, refrigerants, sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, chromic acid, sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, kerosene, gasoline, perchloroethylene, hydrogen, ammonia, fluorinated solvents, chlorine, propane, butane, nitrogen and generally all substances within a pH range of 0 to 14. Do not use with liquid or gaseous oxygen, molten alkali metals and some rare halogenated compounds. DESCRIPTION Chesterton ® 3500 Valvelon ® is a dense, pure PTFE sealant that can be used as a non-hardening valve packing or flange gasket. The unique construction of the product allows it to squeeze in all directions to fill voids and conform to surfaces when installed in a valve or flange. It will not extrude under pressures of up to 35 kg/cm 2 due to its multi-layered structure. Chesterton 3500 Valvelon is ready to use as received. Simply unwind and cut just enough for a particular application. Users can reduce expensive gasket and packing inven- tories by stocking this one convenient product. Because it contains no surface lubricants or chemical fillers, the product has an unlimited shelf life. The product can withstand a wide range of temperatures and be utilized with virtually all chemicals, generally all substances within a pH range of 0 to 14. It is non-hardening in service, and will remain permanently pliable. Before using this product, please refer to Safety Data Sheet (SDS).
