Duneland Photography Club NewsThe Duneland Photography Club meets the first

Tuesday of each month. The next monthly meetingwill be Tuesday, Dec. 5th. Doors open at 6:30 with theregular meeting beginning at 7:00 pm. We will be cel-ebrating our annual Christmas Party and holding an-nual elections. Show and tell will be winter / holidayphotos.Our January meeting will be on Jan. 2nd. Mentoring

begins at 5:30pm. The regular meeting will be at 7:00.Steve Bensing will be presenting, “Keeping Organized- From Camera to Computer.” He will also discussframing and backing boards. Show & Tell will be “TheFamiliar from Different Views” to prepare for an exhibitat Red Cup Cafe in February.

Steve Bensing had one of his photos, “WinterKemil Sunset” chosen for the 2018 Dig the Dunes Cal-endar. It will be used as the February photo. Calen-dars are available for purchase atwww.digthedunes.com. He also had his photo,“Hometown Holiday”, published in the Winter 2017Holiday Issue of Duneland Today by the DunelandChamber of Commerce. It is a 2-page spread acrosspages 10 and 11. This photo was originally displayedfor an exhibit at the Chesterton Art Center a couple ofyears ago. Beth Luncsford, Marketing Director of theDuneland Chamber of Commerce, recalled seeing itand was able to contact Steve through the ChestertonArt Center in order to get permission to use it for pub-lication. Beth said the the photo had a “Norman Rock-well-esque” feel. This issue of Duneland Today manybe obtained from the office of the Duneland Chamberof Commerce.

Critique Night is held the first Wednesday ofeach month. Mark VanderVinne is the host. NextCritique Night takes place on Wednesday, December6 at 7:30 p.m. Guests are welcome with no prior reg-istration required. All ability levels and artistic stylesare encouraged to attend. While Mark is a painter, hewill be able to advise artists in other mediums as well.January Critique Night will be held on Wednesday,January 3, 2018.

In MemoriamWe were saddened to hear that longtime Art Cen-

ter supporter Duane Hibbs passed away on November10. Duane and his wife Lee helped out in so manyways over the years, with the Chesterton Art Fair,member activities, and anything else that neededdoing. Our condolences to Lee and their family.

Art ClassesMonday Night Life Drawing*Note: The December 11 session will be the only one held in December. Tentative startup in Januaryis January 8.Friday Morning Watercolor with Dick ChurchDick Church will be offering a 6-week Beginning/Intermediate Watercolor Class at the ChestertonArt Center starting Friday, January 5, 2018 from 10-12. Dick will lead students through a variety ofwatercolor techniques - a perfect class for the first-time painter or a wonderful refresher for the mildlyexperienced. The cost of the class is $75, non-members $95. Supplies are not included. Dick willdiscuss supplies with all beginners to start the class. For questions, please contact the ChestertonArt Center at 219-926-4711.

Beach Glass Suncatcher with Jayde McAloonSaturday, December 9 from 10-12. Create your very own suncatcher usingbeach glass. Each student is welcome to bring their own beach glass, or a lim-ited amount will be provided . Participants have a choice of either a heart or astar, and it will be ready to hang and enjoy when class is finished. The cost ofclass is $40, with members receiving a $10 discount. All supplies are included.

December Technique Class with Suzie RossoSuzie Rosso will teach a different winter-themed technique each Thursday night in December. Eachweek, she will cover a new technique that students can use in nearly any 2-D medium - pencil,pastel, watercolor, oil, acrylic, etc. Here is the schedule -12/7 Snow - Snow is not just white -- it's an array of colors to make it glisten. Suzie will show studentshow to paint a winter scene with beautiful shadows and possibly even a snowman!12/14 Evergreen Trees - Spruces with snow-laden branches are "paintings waiting to happen." Stu-dents will learn how to draw/paint trees that add richness to a winter landscape.

12/21 Cardinals - These birds in a winter setting are always stunning. Partic-ipants will learn how to draw/paint them at a bird feeder or in a tree.The cost for the month of December is $60, with members of the ChestertonArt Center receiving a $15 discount. Students must register and pay at least24 hours prior to the start of class. The class limit is 10, in order to give eachstudent individual attention. Beginners are welcome. Students are responsiblefor bringing their own supplies in whatever medium he/she prefers.

Holiday Origami with Leslie CefaliWednesday, December 13 - Wreaths and Rings $35/$45 + $5.00 ma-terials fee. 6:30-8:30 pm. Please bring scissors, glue or glue stick. Adda paper or satin bow to these origami rings to make a gift for friends orcoworkers, or to decorate your home or workspace. The rings are madefrom several pieces of paper, all folded the same way and assembledwithout glue. A dab of glue will be used for an optional bow. Fun, fast,easy!

Wednesday, December 20 - 3D Paper Ornaments $35/$45 + $8.00 materialsfee. 6:30-8:30 pm.Please bring scissors, glue or glue stick. You may remember folding Germanbells as a child. With a couple of folds and a dab of glue, you can create this tra-ditional paper ornament. Additional bells or other 3D ornaments will be createdas time allows.

Our Policy Regarding Class/Workshop Fee PaymentsAll classes must be paid for in full one day before class starts. This gives your instructors more timeto spend on teaching you rather than taking class time to collect fees. This can be done by calling theArt Center with credit/debit card, stopping in, or by using Eventbrite online ticketing.

The Art Center will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.Also- The Art Center will be closed from December 24 - January 1, reopening on January 2.

Our ongoing children's art classes at theChesterton Art Center run through the end ofthe school year. The goal is to introduce children to various

artists, their styles and techniques, with proj-ects reflecting what they are learning. Classes meet weekly and are open to all

ages and skill levels. Several mediums willbe used including drawing, painting, papiermache, mosaic, sculpture, collage and more.Call for more information.

The featured artist for December isFriedensreich Hundertwasser, an Austrian/New Zealand artist. Lots of color!

Jennifer Martin will be hosting a winter edi-tion of Cookies and Canvas on Friday, Jan-uary 12. Children ages 3-7 can attend from 5-6:30,

and ages 8 & up can attend from 7-8:30 This festive art evening will include an 8"

x 10" stretched canvas painting, as well ascookies and juice. The cost is $10 per child, or $5 for mem-

bers of the Art Center. All interested studentsmust register and pay no later than Thursday,January 11.
