A MESSAGE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

I welcome you to visit the Chesapeake Arts Center, a vibrant, accessible arts re-source in northern Anne Arundel County. Our mission, “to excite, educate and engage” is the thread that runs through each class, each performance, and each patron experience with our passionate staff and instructors. CAC is a place of safety and creativity, with a staff that desires to meet the needs of the community in which we serve through the arts. Within this catalog, you will find information about our performances and events, arts education classes, community outreach programs, and our soon to be launched MakerSpace, coming in the Spring of 2017. It has been an honor to reacquaint myself with this close-knit community in which I was raised. Each day I walk through CAC’s doors, I am reminded of my time as a student in this building, and many of our patrons and guests share similar fond memories on their visits. Chesapeake Arts Center is proud to be housed in the old Brooklyn Park High School, circa 1954. Once slated for demolition, the building was given new life through the tireless efforts of community leader and former dele-gate Joan Cadden. With Joan’s leadership, a team of local supporters repurposed the former high school into a dynamic community center. In addition to CAC’s perfor-mance venues and classrooms, the building and grounds also house Brooklyn Park Middle School, Brooklyn Park Senior Center, North County Recreation and Parks, Anne Arundel County Police, AACPS External Diploma Program, and the Brook-lyn Park Bees and Broncos, who practice on the fields behind CAC.

CAC owes a debt of gratitude to Joan Cadden, a true visionary whose leadership en-abled us to become the largest arts organization in northern Anne Arundel County. I am pleased to announce that Chesapeake Arts Center will be honoring Joan on October 1, 2016 at our season opener with National Players. Details can be found below – I hope to see you there!

CAC OUTREACH PROGRAMS

“Chesapeake after school programs are valuable outlets for our chil-dren…the nurturing environment quickly warmed hearts and gave my child and I a chance to embrace diversity, the arts and life in general.” - After School ParentEducation is a central component of CAC’s mission as we strive to make a positive impact on our com-munity in a creative way. Our outreach programs allow families with limited resources to enroll in arts education classes, workshops, and after-school programs. These programs provide a safe, positive learn-ing environment for children to express themselves, build positive self-esteem, and learn new skills.

“It has given my daughter exposure to various classes and a chance to try

something new. The staff is AWESOME with the kids and my daughter enjoys going to each session. She also enjoys showing me

what she’s learned at the end of session showcase.” - After School Parent

In 2015-2016, CAC was able to reach nearly 300 students through free and low-cost arts programs. As we enter the 2016-2017 school year, CAC will continue to offer tuition assistance for up to 75% off class rates for Anne Arundel County residents and free after-school arts and STEAM workshops for students of Brooklyn Park Middle School. These programs are generously funded through support from Arun-del Community Development Services, The Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County, and St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church.
