The Lodge Social Hall and Kitchen renovation was completed before the first stated communication on January 7th and what a great im- provement! My thanks to Brother Dean for his leadership and hard work on these projects and for the support of so many other brothers who helped make all this happen. On January 9th, several of your Cherrydale officers attended the Division Leadership Conference out in Warrenton, VA. This gave us a great opportunity to hear from the Grand Master and to interact with our corresponding officers in the Grand Line. He empha- sized the importance of setting a good example as Masons in our lodges and in our communities. Our second stated communication was packed, first with a great presenta- tion from Wor Rhey Solomon on why we join the fraternity and the duties of a Mason. We also initiated Brother Irungu into the fraternity that night, completing his Entered Apprentice Degree. One of the goals this year is to continue to improve our proficiency in rit- ual. The dedication of our brethren to practice for and execute this most recent EA degree is commendable. Doing this is highly important to our Lodge and to the Craft. This is well articulated in Section III of the Constitution of Masonry: “…For although Masonry divests no man of his temporal honors or titles, but on the contrary, highly respects them, yet in the Lodge, preeminence of virtue and knowledge in the Royal Art, is considered as the true fountain of all nobility, rule and government. Thanks again for a great start to this Masonic year at Cherrydale Lodge. MESSAGE FROM THE SOUTH

Masonic Family,

Many of you have seen the transformation of Cherrydale Lodge; some have not had the chance to witness its metamorphosis. What started off as a suggestion to add the mosaic pavement typically seen in Masonic lodges has progressed to an entirely new lodge. When I joined the lodge in 2011, my background in construction and remodeling tied in nice-ly with the architectural nature of our craft and inspired me to research various lodge designs. With the input and support of many members of the lodge, the potential of Cherrydale Lodge came to fruition. Looking at pictures in the social hall of events 40+ years ago and realizing the lodge looked exactly the same, it was clearly time to move forward. While trying to maintain the character of Cher-

rydale Lodge, we wanted to update its appearance with King Solomon's temple and our ritual as inspi-ration. Being assigned to the lodge design committee by Worshipful Justin Michael Strait in 2012 prompted the idea of the mosaic pavement with indented tessel. This phase of the project was complet-ed in February 2013. The coffered ceiling was proposed later that year and completed in March 2014. The major transformation of your lodge room began in December 2014 with completion in January 2015. The paneling was retired for sheet rock; glass block windows were restored; columns, chair rail, crown molding, lights and speakers were installed and carpeting was replaced. The lodge room renovation success encouraged us to continue into the hallway. In August 2015 the work was completed, including ceiling repair, wall replacement, built-in bookshelves, lighted display case, granite topped cabinet and double door access to a redesigned storage area are the high-lights. Feeling the need to complete the metamorphosis, we took on the social hall and kitchen. New lights, cabinets, tables, countertops, sink, chair rail, microwave, garbage disposal, dishwasher and back-splash are some of the biggest changes. While there are still a few bugs to work out, the final phase is essentially complete. There were many opinions to consider during this process and I hope the choices made enrich your time spent in our lodge. Many brothers provided support for this endeavor. As much as I would like to thank them all, I would hate to miss one. Their hard work has been invaluable through this process. No pictures have been added to this article as they would not do our hard work justice. If it has been a while since you've visited Cherrydale, now would be a wonderful time to return.

Sincerely and fraternally,

Brother Dean Frederick Jones-Junior Warden & Principal Deputy Grand Artificer
