06 - 006Long-Lasting Phosphorescence of Transparent Surface-CrystallizedGlass-Ceramics. — Two glass ceramics with molar com-positions 43SiO2/2B2O3/ 30SrO/25MgO/0.05Eu2O3/0.8Dy2O3 and43SiO2/2B2O3/24SrO/6CaO/25MgO/ 0.05Eu2O3/0.8Dy2O3 are preparedfrom SiO2, H3BO3, SrCO3, CaCO3, MgO, Eu2O3, and Dy2O3 (Pt crucibles,1500 ◦C, 2 h, annealing at 700–850 ◦C). Both samples show long lasting (¿5 h)room temp. phosphorescence with emission peaks at 470 and 480 nm due tothe 4f65d–4f7 transition of the Eu2+ ions. The materials are expected to havebroader applications than the sintered materials, because they are transparentand can be easily manufactured into various shapes. — (FU, JIE; J. Am.Ceram.
