Magnetic propertiesD 9000 A Comparison of the Magnetic Structures of KMn4(PO4)3 and KCo4(PO4)3 Based
on the Connectivity of the Coordination Polyhedra. — The crystal structures of the title compounds are determined by high-resolution neutron powder diffraction at room temperature. Both compounds are orthorhombic. The Mn compound crystallizes in the space group Pnam while the Co analogue crystallizes in the space group Pnnm. Mag-netic measurements show ferromagnetic behavior for the Co compound, whereas in the Mn derivative antiferromagnetism is observed. The magnetic structures are interpreted in terms of possible M—O—M superexchange and super—superexchange (M—O—O—M) interactions mediated by isolated phosphate groups. — (LOPEZ*, M.
