This is an outline of useful information on the

CO-OP program. Students are expected to

familiarize themselves with this and keep it as

    reference.

    1. Eligibility for Program

The following criteria (as given in the KFUPM

Undergraduate Bulletin) should be met before a

student is considered eligible for admission to the

    CO-OP program.

    1. Completion of a minimum of 85 credit hours.

    2. Completion of special departmental requirements

such as CHE 306, CHE 309, and ENGL 214.

    3. Having a major or cumulative GPA equal to 2.00

    or higher.

    4. Not being subject to dismissal for academiccauses.

    2. CO-OP Advisor

Students will be assigned to coop advisors according

to specialty. However, a maximum number of

students per faculty will be observed to insure fair

distribution. This maximum number varies according

to the number of students and faculty available. The

coop advisor will also assign the second examiner.

The coordinator will do the assigning of advisors as

soon as information on the students assignment is

    received.

    3. Writing the CO-OP Report

Two progress reports and the final report are

required. The progress reports are due after the first

two months and four months respectively. The

purpose of these is to report the progress made to

date and should be within a few pages. The final

report is due within the first month of the semester

after returning from coop. Students should write

their reports according to the standard report writing

format and according to the requirement of the

faculty advisor. The final report should contain the

    following, as much as applicable:

    1. Cover page

    2. Summary

    3. Table of Contents

    4. Brief Description of the Company5. Objectives/summary of the Project assignments

    6. Theory on the subject

    7. Process Description

    8. Procedure for Accomplishing the Assignment

    9. Results and Discussions

    10. Conclusions and Recommendations

    11. References

    12. Appendices

    The cover page should include:

    1. University, college and department names

    2. Course title and number (i.e. CHE 351)

    3. Title

    4. Students name and number

    5. CO-OP advisors name

    6. Date of submission

    4. Submission of CO-OP Report

All students should keep in touch with their

advisors and must contact them once they finish

their training period. Students are urged to

prepare the draft report prior to returning from

coop. The report must be submitted to the faculty

advisor by the end of the fourth week of the

semester immediately following their return. The

second faculty examiner should be given acopy at least one week prior to the date of the

    Oral presentation.

    5. Oral Presentation

After submitting his final report, the student will

be required to give a short presentation (e.g. 30

minutes) about his CO-OP work to his advisor

and the second faculty member. The two faculty

members will judge the presentation, the

students answers to questions about his CO-OP

    work, and the report.

The presentation should be made well ahead of

the final exams and not later than the tenth week

    of the semester.

    6. Final Grade

The final grade is made off; 50% on the report,

25% on the presentation, and 25% on company

    evaluation.
