CCHS Mission Statement Culver City High School is an engaged and caring academic community where diversity is valued and respected. We are committed to educating and inspiring all students to become life-long learners and contributing members of our global society.

CCHS Student Outcomes (ESLR’s)
CCHS curricular emphasis is based on the California State Standards, while Student
Outcomes (ESLR’s) are the driving force in curricular development and teaching
methodology. The Student Outcomes are intended to challenge students to become:
1. Critical Thinkers, with a knowledge core, who will identify, access, integrate and
use available information in order to reason, solve complex problems and make
decisions in different settings with the ability to communicate in a variety of
manners.
2. Self-Guided Achievers, who use positive core values to create a positive self-
image for themselves and their future, set priorities and achievable goals, create

monitor and evaluate their progress and take responsibility for their own choices
and actions.
3. Involved Citizens, who take the initiative to contribute of their time, energies

functions.

Thank you to parents and students for participating in our online semester end survey regarding next year's
calendar. After considering feedback from all stakeholders, we are moving forward with ending the fall semester
at winter break. This means that finals will take place on December 14, 15, and 16. Students will begin the spring
semester upon returning from winter break on January 3, 2017. Please note: the school year still begins on
Monday, August 22, 2016 and ends on June 9, 2017. Please make your vacation plans accordingly, as we expect
all students to attend finals on those December dates. We are making this change on a one-year trial basis only. We
will seek feedback from all stakeholders during the spring semester 2017.

Important Graduation Information
Culver City High School’s 2016 graduation ceremony will take
place on Friday, June 10th at 5:00 pm at the Jerry Chabola Stadium, Culver City High School.
The ceremony has been moved up an hour from previous
years to assist parents in celebrating their graduate’s accomplishments after the ceremony.

The Senior Activities Letter will be mailed
out to the homes of our Senior Students the
first week of February. It will include
important information, details and deadlines
pertaining to end of the year activities and
graduation. The letter will also be posted on
the school website.

Activities Update
The 2015-16 school year is quickly coming to a close. I am extremely proud of this year’s Associated Student Body led by President Coco Althaus, Vice-President Angela Uribe and Director of Activities Carlos Valverde. Our students experienced wonderful assemblies, participated in numerous activities, and had the opportunity to gain leadership skills through our student government’s hard work. This year they hosted two large voting events and helped raise awareness in the importance of voting. Many students were recognized for exemplifying the Centaur Pillars this year. CCHS will continue to imbed Character Counts throughout our school and its programs in hopes of teaching our children to model: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. CCHS was recently visited by an accreditation team from the Los Angeles County Office of Education to review our Democracy School program. We are hoping to learn that our school will be accredited as a California Democracy School – one of the first in the State. Some of our students will attend a Civics Showcase at the Ronald Reagan Library at the end of April where they will be able to display their Civic Action Projects completed through their government classes. Additionally, CCHS is honored to be recognized by the Judicial Council of California with the Civic Learning Award of Merit for its Democracy School program. Seniors activities will soon commence starting with our All Nite Grad Party at Disneyland closely followed by our Junior/Senior Prom which will be held at CalMart in Downtown Los Angeles on May 21st. A detailed Senior Activities letter is posted to the school website. This year’s graduation ceremony will be held at on Friday, June 10th at 5pm at the Jerry Chabola Stadium at the high school. We look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of this year’s graduating class. The Centaur Cheerleaders, along with ASB, are planning a Powder Puff/Rosie Bowl and a Tailgate Party after school on Friday, June 3rd. This fun event will be the culminating activity prior to final exams and a wonderful way to end the school year. Please join us on the lacrosse field to cheer on our female players and enjoy the entertainment provided by our male students. More details will be posted to the school’s website in the near future. Thank you to all of our students, parents and staff for the continued support of our school activities. Enjoy the activities planned during the last few months of the school year and have a wonderful, relaxing summer!

English Language Arts:
Week of April 25 for students in regular English
classes
Week of May 23 for students in AP English
classes (after APs are over).
Mathematics:
Week of May 16th
. All students will be on
BLOCK schedule during this week. Periods 1, 3,
5 will meet on Monday and Thursday. Periods 2,
4, 6 will meet on Tuesday and Friday.
Wednesday will be a regular minimum schedule.
220 Credits …requirement to walk in Graduation
Ceremony: Last year Board policy was revised so
that seniors must complete all 220 required credits in
order to walk in the graduation ceremony. Counselors
will continue to work with students to utilize all our
districts resources so that seniors may participate in
the culminating ceremony. Resources include:
summer school, Adult School, iAcademy, Culver
Park, 7th period independent study, among others.
Please ask your child’s counselor for more
information.
New Course Offerings at CCHS—Focus on STEM
There is a buzz of excitement among Culver City High School students about the
new courses being offered as students begin scheduling for the 2016-2017 school
year. Five new courses and one resurgent course is being offered in 2016-17
building on our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)
offerings as well as electives designed to serve students' interests: AP Computer
Science A, AP Environmental Science, Multimedia Production I, Speech and
Debate, and Spanish IV (non AP), and AP French Language IV. .
AP Computer Science A: The course introduces students to computer science
with fundamental topics that include problem solving, design strategies and
methodologies, organization of data, approaches to processing data, analysis of
potential solutions, and the ethical and social implication of computing.
AP Environmental Science: This course combines a variety of disciplines
including biology, earth science, chemistry, geography, and even economics.
Students are challenged to think about the environment and the consequences
human activities have on it.
Multimedia Production I: This is an introductory course in designing and
developing multimedia products. It introduces students to the amazing world of
multimedia and covers a variety of topics including: sound design, basic animation,
game design essentials, web development, graphics, and video. .
Speech and Debate: To support our already high functioning Speech and Debate
Team, and foster growth in analytical and oral presentation skills for all of our
students. Students will study logic, rhetoric, dialectic, current issues and events,
parliamentary procedure, as well as policy, factual, ethical and statistical analysis.
Spanish IV (non-AP) provides students the opportunity to continue their Spanish
studies without the added pressure that comes with an Advanced Placement course.
AP French Language IV was formerly offered when French was a language being
taught at the Middle School, but has not been offered for the last seven years. We
are happy to bring it back to the high school in response to student demand.
Additionally, students will now be able to earn a Seal of Biliteracy in French. The
Seal demands that students successfully study a language for four years of high
school.
CAASPP Testing begins April 25th
The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress, or CAASPP, is the state academic testing program. CAASPP is a
system intended to provide information that can be used to monitor student progress and ensure that all students leave high school
ready for college and career. CAASPP includes computer adaptive tests in English–language arts and mathematics as well as paper-
based tests for science.
Students will take the test in grades 10 (Life Science) and 11 (English Language Arts and Mathematics from April 25-May 27. To
learn about the types of questions on the computer-based test, you and your child can view the practice test online at the California
Department of Education (CDE) Smarter Balanced Practice Test Web page at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/sa/practicetest.asp

Summer School Registration 2016 Culver City High School
Culver City High School will be hosting summer school this year. Summer School is not offered to current Seniors. Limited offerings and spaces will be available. The following is a listing of classes that are planned to be offered (based upon registration numbers and available staffing):
Math: Algebra 1A (All 6 weeks to count for Semester 1 of Algebra 1); Algebra 1B (All 6 weeks to count for Semester 2 of Algebra 1); Geometry; Algebra 2 English: 9, 10, 11. ELD Study Skills (offered fall semester only with CELDT test administered at the end of the course) Social Studies: World History, Global Issues (Fall
Semester) Science: Biology, Health (Spring Semester)
Classes will fill quickly. If your student needs to remediate a course in which s/he earned a D or F, please return this form to his/her counselor immediately. Space will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Students who received “Fs” will have priority. Confirmation letters with summer school placements will be mailed home during the last week of May. not only successful on the playing field,
but are also achieving high levels of
success in the classroom. We expect a
lot from our student-athletes. A critical
component to their development is
understanding the importance that sports
play in shaping positive character traits,
building team camaraderie, and
preparing students for real world
experiences. The 2015-16 Centaurs are
continuing to excel academically with an
overall team grade-point-average (GPA)
of 3.2 in varsity sports, with 6 teams
with averages of 3.5 or more. Go
Centaurs!!!
Pursuing Victory With Honor
We believe every student-athlete at Culver City High School should demonstrate a high level of ethics and sportsmanship during athletic competitions. As a program specifically created for athletes to give coaches, teachers, and administrators the tools to help foster good character in young athletes, it was adopted by the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) in 1999 in recognition of the impact that sports can have on developing good character in student-athletes. Student-athletes are expected to uphold the Six Pillars of Characters: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. These principles were developed by the Josephson Institute of Ethics and part of the Character COUNTS initiative that provide common language and expectations that shape school culture. It is our goal to have every student-athlete embody these core values as he or she Pursue Victory With Honor.

The Culver City High School Booster
Club helps to support student clubs, organizations,
athletic teams, and other extra-curricular activities
through financial support and volunteerism. Joining
the CCHS Booster Club and volunteering at school
events are great ways to support our students, to
meet other parents, to reconnect with fellow
alumni, and to get involved with Culver City High
School.
Culver City Education Foundation CCEF works throughout the year to raise the funds needed to ensure that every student at each of our CCUSD schools has a rich and engaging education. To make this happen, we need your help. Please show our students that their community supports them, by supporting CCEF. Please donate at CCEF90230.org
The district has changed the parking policy for
the parking lot in front of the Middle School. All
spots are reserved and assigned to employees. There
are a few guest parking spots available behind the
large building in the middle of the lot. Thank you for
helping the schools through this transition.

Parent Portal. Log in often to access student
attendance reports, teacher grade books, and grade
reports as they become available.
No Drop offs in Student Parking lot (located on Harter). Please use alternate locations for student drop-offs in the morning to ensure the safety of all students.

CCHS Peer Tutoring
Peer Tutors are CCHS students who are trained and qualified to tutor a range of subjects (including Honors and AP levels)
to help you meet your academic goals.
Please bring your class materials (homework, notes, textbooks, handouts, practice tests, drafts, etc) to tutoring.
