PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Wow, that was some Summer! I hope that you all took advantage of the great Pool
Club at Mooredale. We needed it. On that note, I want to thank the City of Toronto for all of their help with the renovations and improvements at the Pool Club. We have received positive feedback from Members about improved accessibility, the filter system and the new fence. Next
up is new lighting on the pool deck, coming this Fall. As always, Mooredale House was very busy during the Summer, with all kinds of camps, preschool programs and sports. It is such a hub of activity, people and fun for all. A big thank you to all of the Summer staff. Hard to believe that, on any given day, we had more than 500 people on site. Yet again, the popularity of our camps is on the up-and-up, as kids get to experience a unique camp experience right here in the city. As we transition into Fall, I wanted to welcome all of the members at Mooredale, whether they have signed up for Preschool, Sports or any of other Programs. Membership reflects the community support for our organization and provides us with the foundation for all of the great programs and activities at Mooredale. We continue to offer the always popular fitness, music, karate, sportball and dance programs. New in Sports this Fall is Ultimate Frisbee, building on the past successes of Basketball, Flag Football and a revitalized Ice Hockey program. Frisbees will be flying all over Rosedale Park this Fall. Don’t miss out and be sure to check our website for more information. Another wonderful series of Mooredale Concerts is approaching. See the enclosed brochure to decide which concerts you wish to attend this year. We are always innovating and looking for new programs. I encourage you to share your ideas or, better yet, become a volunteer yourself. Mooredale will once again host the Terry Fox Run. This year’s event, its 38th, will be Sunday, September 16. Volunteers are always appreciated. If you would like to help, contact Tori Brown at [email protected] or 416-890-6113. In closing, I always want to stress the importance of giving back to Mooredale and to making all of these programs and activities such a success. Please consider getting involved and becoming a volunteer. You’ll always be glad that you did. Nominations are also open for the 2018-19 Board of Directors. The Election Form is in our newsletter, with deadlines as early as September 7. Yes, the camps are over, the weather is changing and the kids all go back to (pre)school, but there is always plenty to do at Mooredale.

Lifetime Skills Academy comes to Whitney After 4
Alex Arthur is the co-owner of Lifetime Skills Academy. We’re offering four new LSA programs at Whitney PS this fall and caught up with Alex to find out more about LSA.
Alex, what inspired you to start the LSA program?Students need skills to thrive in our new technological century, skills that are not taught in school, in both personal development and technology. These are skills that will last them for a lifetime, and help them to thrive with new technological expertise.
Can you explain some of the methods and techniques you use to make your lessons memorable? At LSA we use our 5-Star development system, where we introduce our students step by step to a full map of the skills they are going to learn. We also leverage technologies and media to show the children the end-product of what they can achieve so that they are motivated to go out and achieve that. Finally, we excite them with visions of new technologies and what they can do.
If you could narrow it to one key thing – what do you hope each child learns or takes away from the LSA class? We want each student and camper coming through LSA to know that they have the power and potential to be leaders and to change the world in positive ways!
Thank you Alex! We look forward to seeing you in September.
This fall season students can register for the following LSA programs: Financial Literacy, Minecraft Modding, 3D Printing, and Lego Engineering. For further information please refer to the 2018 Fall Guide available online or at the Mooredale office.

Another summer in the books!
First, I would like to extend a HUGE thank you to all our outstanding staff for their successful 2018 pool season. One of the best reasons to come to the pool is undoubtedly the
interaction with our truly exceptional team of young people. I want to extend a extra special thank you to Ellen Harper, our pool manager on her stewardship of such an excellent team of lifeguards & instructors. Another a thank you goes to YOU, our pool members—moms, dads, and kids of all ages, lane swimmers, floaters, “Aquafitters” and those on the deck. We had a few hiccups earlier in the season and we appreciate your patience as we continue the upgrades to our beloved pool area. Although the pool is closed for the season, we are installing new lights and also painting the fence this fall. We have a special and great group of members here at Mooredale Pool and appreciate your continuing support of the pool. Please continue to pass on the word to all your friends and neighbours for the 2019 season. It is sure to be an excellent one! Finally, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Marjorie Booth, our wonderful Executive Director, who amongst everything else Mooredale, also oversaw the pool construction over the winter and spring. Marjorie’s final pool season is a wrap, as she is embarking upon a new and wonderful endeavor – retirement! We will miss her greatly in every facet of Mooredale, where she has left her indelible mark. Thank you for absolutely everything. The Pool Club Annual Meeting takes place Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at 7:30pm. All Pool Members are welcome to attend. If you would like to volunteer to support and advise our staff colleagues by joining the committee please let me know. Pool committee members are confirmed at the Pool Annual Meeting. Don’t forget to remember where you store your membership cards over the winter, as you will need them for opening day 2019. Mine, whose stickers over the years have created quite the “lump” on my card, are gently placed in the pocket of the family swim bag, along with a tangle of goggles, masks and swim toys. Lastly, we must restart our countdown to pool opening 2019. Don’t fret – another great swimming season will be here before we know it! Enjoy the fall and winter months and see you in the pool next May. 259 days until pool opening!

Eric “Fidgit” MusselmanCAMP DIRECTOR
At Mooredale We’re Building Better People!
The 2018 summer camp season is wrapping up and we are thankful for all the families who chose MDC this summer for their day camp adventure! We had a wonderful summer
spending time with all of our campers – some for a few days and others for all eight weeks. The summer was filled with big splashes and even bigger smiles in the pool, delicious hot lunches provided by the lunch mom, and dozens of different activities and programs here at Mooredale, at Rosedale Public School, and Rosedale Park. This summer Mooredale campers had many adventures off-site. We filled our tummies with juicy raspberries at Downey’s farm. We explored the mazes and rope courses at Tree Top Trekking and played in the sand all day at North Beach. To wrap up the summer we explored the outdoors nature areas at Downsview Park. Here at camp some highlights included Wacky Wednesdays, MDC’s birthday party, colour Olympics, and a production of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown by our drama campers. The karate and lego specialties once again were hits with our intermediate and senior campers. While having fun is a great aspect of camp, ‘fun’ isn’t why we exist. During staff training we told our team that this summer ‘they were in the construction business’ and our mission was to build better people. Many of our campers grew as people. Some accomplished higher swimming levels, passed their deep end tests, hit a bulls-eye in archery and grew their social skills. Many tried new foods, befriended new people and got to experience ‘camp’ for the first time. Others learned to be more patient, or polite, or what it meant to be empathetic. This summer we gave daily recognition for children who demonstrated one of the ten following Outstanding Camper characteristics: Caring, Cooperation, Independence, Helpfulness, Empathy, Enthusiasm, Perseverance, Courage, Leadership and Politeness. Some campers made it a daily goal to earn an Outstanding Camper button every day It always takes a strong team with many different people to make any summer camp a success. I would like to thank River (Shannon Hill) for returning for her ninth summer at Mooredale. River has the job of managing our camp office, monitoring daily communication with parents and liaising with the pool managers to ensure everyone gets to their correct swimming lessons. I would also like to thank Bailey Thibodeau (Sprout) for doing an excellent
job in the Program Director role once again this summer. Her creative ideas and always-positive personality helped ensure our programs ran smoothly each and every day. Huge thank you needs to be given to the rest of the strong leadership team. Kiki (Jolina), Cocoa (Caitlin), Splash (Maddie), Snax (Sarah), Sniffles (Ryan), Monet (Anna May), Pitch (Adam), Treble (Jobelle), Harley (Emma) worked tirelessly with the counsellors to set up programs, deal with camper conflict, distribute snacks and lunch, dress up in crazy costumes, create crazy Meal Time Madness competitions, and do the 1001 things that need to be done every day to make camp a success. And last, but certainly not least, we all owe the counsellors, assistant counsellors and volunteers a huge thank you for the work they did every day with the campers. Each morning at 8 am they arrived ready and excited to work and they faithfully stuck to their duties until the last camper went home at five thirty. For many of them this was their first ‘real’ job, and it was such a pleasure to walk with them through the experience and to see them take on this challenging responsibility. We look forward seeing everyone back next summer!

ELECTION 2018
The 14 Directors of the Rosedale-Moore Park Association are elected annually. We are now seeking nominations for election at our 2018 Annual General Meeting, to be held on Wednesday, November 21,
2018 at 7:30 pm. In order to encourage our members to participate, a Nominating Committee, comprised of the Past President, two current Board Members and two Association members who are not on the Board, will be formed. This committee will propose a slate of nominees for the Association year 2018-2019. We urge you to contact David Woods, the Nominating Committee Chair, with your suggestions of possible candidates. For your nominations to be considered by the Nominating Committee for its suggested slate, the nominations must be received by September 7, 2018. Biographical information on all nominees received by September 14 will be circulated to all members. Other nominations will be accepted from the membership until 4:00pm October 5, 2018. The completed, signed forms should be returned to the Mooredale Office, 146 Crescent Rd, Toronto M4W 1V2 (Fax 416-922-4523) or email pdf to [email protected] . Please feel free to contact Marjorie Booth, Executive Director or email [email protected] or leave a voice message at 416-922-3714 ext 310 for someone to contact you about possibilities. The Mooredale Director representing each of these clubs has traditionally been the club president or an executive member appointed by the club

l We must have one Sports Director who works with volunteers and with the Mooredale Sport Club Manager and staff, and is also an advisor for team sports programs offered through Mooredale.
l The remaining ten Directors on the Board shall be filled by nominees elected to be “Directors at large”, who are then assigned positions. Most of these positions are assigned annually as we continue traditional activities, but other portfolios can change from year to year in order for the Board to complete goals set for the upcoming year. The following two positions are assigned annually
President: chairs regular board meetings and works with the Executive Director.

The following portfolios were in operation for 2017-2018

e’re celebrating a milestone in the 2018-19 season by presenting performers and works that have special meaning to our founder, the
late Kristine Bogyo, and past artistic director Anton Kuerti. The last two of our six concerts will be single composer special events – an all-Mozart piano recital and an all-Beethoven string quartet program. Another concert features an internationally acclaimed wind quintet performing one work by a composer who was a close personal friend. Wonny Song, our artistic director, who is another personal friend, has put together a unique trio of artistic directors to commemorate our 30th season.
