Valley Retail Park Bought For £7.2M By London Firm
A London-listed investment fund has snapped up Valley Retail Park for £7.2m.Th e Newtownabbey Park is home to names such as furniture retailer Harvey Norman, car parts company Halfords, décor specialists Harry Corry as well as furniture fi rm Harvey’sNew owner AEW UK, which announced the purchase to the London Stock Exchange, said the latest edition to its portfolio will net the fund rent of just under £1m a year. Th at’s despite two of the nine units being currently vacant. Belfast fi rm CBRE had been marketing the deal which was advertised at an initial asking price of £6.5m. Th e prospectus notes Harry Corry has requested a 20% rent reduction for two years, a consequence of the Company Voluntary Arrangement the fi rm has proposed to some of its landlords. It is planning to close eight of its 50 stores
but its Valley Retail Park store is one it hopes to retain under reduced rental terms. Purchaser AEW UK have already invested in other retail parks throughout the UK and said it’s poised to announce more acquisitions over in the near future, according to Alex Short, the Portfolio Manager at AEW UK Investment Management LLP, although it’s not clear if any will be in Northern Ireland. “We currently have under off er a range of similar deals and therefore expect to be able to make further announcements over the coming weeks.” Th e interest in Northern Ireland’s retail property by investment funds has been growing as the sector here shows signs of picking up. A report carried out for the Department of Enterprise Trade and Investment earlier this year showed the retail and wholesale sector
was one of the few to expand in the fi rst quarter of the year. And earlier this year Scottish Widows Unit Fund bought Longwood Road Retail Park, also in Newtownabbey and the home to Matalan, TK Maxx and Homebase for £48 million.

International Youth Day Celebrated at Ballyearl
Beyond Skin artist, Donna Namukasa, joins children and leaders from Ballyearl Summer Scheme to celebrate International Youth Day.
This week young people from Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Council’s Summer Scheme at Ballyearl took part in a series of music and dance workshops to celebrate International Youth Day. Beyond Skin artist, Donna Namukasa, met with the group to chat about everyday life in her home country of Uganda. In an impressive fi nale, the children showcased their
new skills by performing a traditional Ugandan dance native to Donna’s Village. The costumes the children wore, including grass
skirts, are also native to Uganda where they are made and feature in traditional dances locally. United Nations’ International Youth Day is celebrated on August 12 each year to recognize the eff orts of the world’s youth in enhancing global society. Uganda is linked with Northern Ireland through the Northern Ireland Government International Development strategy. Beyond Skin are a local team of professional artists, facilitators, global educators and multimedia specialists who are passionate about using their gifts for the greater good. Celebrating diversity through music, arts, dance and new media they provide, develop and deliver global diversity education initiatives in an aim to address issues of racism & sectarianism. The project was supported by Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council’s Good Relations Programme which receives fi nancial support from the Offi ce of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister.

Dog Cruelty Conviction
For Antrim WomanAliesha McLaverty, age 23, a former resident of Firmount Drive in Antrim, was sentenced at Antrim Magistrates Court today, 4th August 2015 aft er pleading guilty to causing the unnecessary suff ering and failing to ensure the welfare of a Labrador pup for which she was responsible. Th e charges were brought against Miss McLaverty by Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council under the Welfare of Animals Act (NI) 2011. Th e charges related to fi ndings following an investigation by Animal Welfare Offi cers regarding off ences in April 2014, which related to a dog that had died of dehydration and starvation whilst in Miss McLaverty’s care.Miss McLaverty’s was given a two month custodial sentence, suspended for two years. In addition Miss McLaverty was disqualifi ed from the keeping of animals for a period of 5 years and ordered to pay legal costs of £119.Cliff ord Todd, Head of Environmental Health for Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council said: “Council gives a high priority to the welfare of domestic pets and horses and operates a rigorous enforcement policy to ensure full compliance of regulatory requirements. Complaints are investigated thoroughly and where necessary formal action is taken, which may include the service of Improvement Notices or, in extreme cases, the seizure of animals.“Th e Council will prosecute for off ences such as in this particularly harrowing case, which I hope serves as a warning to anyone who does not take appropriate care of animals.”

Be Street Safe with the FASA Bus!
An innovative new initiative to help young people stay safe has been launched in the Glengormley area. Th e Street Safe initiative, operated by FASA (Forum Against Substance Abuse) involves a bus for young people, which has been out and about in the Glengormley area on some Saturday nights over the summer. Th e pilot programme which is funded by Antrim and New-townabbey Policing and Commu-nity Safety Partnership, aims to help address community safety is-sues and engage with young people
who may be involved in anti-social behavior. Staff on the bus will have communication with the PSNI neighborhood policing teams and Newtownabbey Street Pastors, who are already working hard to keep Glengormley a safe place. Speaking about the initiative, Lois Kilpatrick, Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council’s PCSP Project Offi cer commented; “Th e Street Safe initiative is an innovative way to engage with young people in the area. Every-one is welcome on the bus, which
is equipped with a TV, Wii, hot drinks facilities and a CD player, providing a relaxed and welcoming environment. Th e team on board hope to have open discussions with the young people about drug/alcohol misuse and how anti-social behaviour can impact upon the community. “ Look out for the Street Safe bus in Glengormley in the coming weeks. For further information contact Lois Kilpatrick on 028 90340011 or email: [email protected]
Girvan asks how many more fi sh have to die, before the relevant departments take action.
Fish Kills on Sixmile RiverDUP MLA, Paul Girvan has today asked “How many more fi sh will have to die, before the relevant departments take the necessary action to protect our waterways. Th is is not the fi rst time, indeed this is the third major such incident over this past couple of years, and the anglers of the South Antrim area, are at breaking point, in that incidents like this seem now to happen regularly, and when you lift the papers, or try to establish the cause of such incidents, the normal response is “not enough evidence to convict”. I and my party colleagues have met with the anglers along the Ballymartin River, and also the Sixmile River, and questions are still needing answered from the previous incidents. Th ese include: Has anyone been prosecuted yet for the previous fi sh kills on the Sixmile River and the Ballymartin River? What measures have the various departments i.e DOE, DCAL, and DARD put in place to protect the rivers and their habitats? Are the departments, looking at measures to restock these rivers, with fi sh stock? Mr Girvan continued “I am glad that my party colleague, Mr Trevor Clarke MLA and I have today requested an
urgent meeting with the DARD and DOE Minister, and indeed invited them to come to the Ballymartin River, and see the destruction for themselves, and speak with the anglers, who are at wits end corner, but be assured, we don’t want petty talk at the meeting, we want answers, and more importantly, we want an assurance, that the full rigour of the law, will be implemented, and that those responsible will be taken to task. Anglers tonight are distraught and angry, and have every right to be so. Th e departments need to step up to the mark, deliver on previous promises, and take action.”

Guide: How To Prepare Your Garden For A ShedSo you’ve bought your new shed, you’re now waiting for it to be delivered and you’ve considered where you would like to build it in your garden. Below you will fi nd example of what to do and what not to do, when preparing your garden.
Chatterbox spoke to Ken at Hillhead Sheds about preparing a Garden for a Shed...have you prepared the ground ready to install your new shed onto? Ken says “When installing a timber shed you must ensure that you have a even and level surface onto which you can build it. Th is can be made using either concrete, garden slabs or even timber decking. Failing to prepare a level surface will lead to your shed warping, which can result in damaged timber or even broken windows. If you’re using one of our shed bases you will still need to clear the area for rubble. It’s also a good idea to lay a weed proof membranes, to prevent growth and eventual damage to your shed.” But I’ve paid for a shed installation service, do I still need to prepare my garden you ask? Ken says “Yes, it’s best practice to. Our installation teams will not clear your garden or lay a concrete surface for you. You will need to make sure that you have prepared the area in time for your delivery and installation. Examples of how to prepare your garden for a new shed: Concrete Hard-standing (Images are two top pictures to the right of this article) - When using concrete as a surface to support your new shed, you must ensure that it is level, fl at and that it is dry in time for your shed delivery and installation. Here are the basic steps:
Using pegs and string, mark out the base
area (allow 5 cm extra)Dig a 15 cm deep, level hole - Insert a wooden framework to contain the concreteAdd a 7 cm deep level layer of stone or hardcoreAdd the concrete cement mix – spread evenly and level off - Allow to fully set
Garden Slab Base (middle two images) - A good alternative to using concrete is to use garden paving slabs. But once again these need to laid so as to create a level surface:
Dig out topsoil to about 7 cm deepAdd 4 cm layer of cementStart in one corner and start to lay the slabs (use a spirit level)Allow the cement to dry before building your shed
Using a timber decking base (Bottom Two Images) - Th is is a great way to quickly create a hard-standing for your new shed. You must ensure that it is level and should lay a weed proof membrane between the bare-ground and the base. If building a log-cabin or summer house you can easily use this method to create a beautiful verandah area.
If you are thinking of buying or installing a Shed in your Garden don’t hesitate to call and speak to Ken, you will receive frank, open and honest dialogue, from someone with years of experience in the industy.

Normal business cannot continue at Stormont until an ongoing political row over the existence of the Provisional IRA is resolved, Northern Ireland’s largest party has said. DUP deputy leader, Nigel Dodds, spoke aft er a meeting with Secretary of State Th eresa Villiers on the IRA’s status. His comments come as part of a row over the status of the Provisional IRA aft er themurder of Kevin McGuigan Sr. Mr Dodds said Ms Villiers agreed with his analysis.‘Determined’ He reiterated that the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) would move to exclude Sinn Féin from the Northern Ireland Executive and be prepared to bring down Northern Ireland’s power-sharing government over claims the Provisional IRA still exists. “We are determined that, one way or another, we will have a government in Northern Ireland consisting of people totally committed to peaceful and democratic means only,” he said. “If other parties do not step up to the plate with us, or if the government does not take suffi cient action to deal with this matter, then we will bring about the circumstances to create the time and space in which this matter will be resolved. “I’m glad that the secretary of state recognises that it cannot be business as usual.”
Mr Dodds added that his party would be seeking a meeting with Prime Minister David Cameron. Analysis: What is the background to the Stormont row? Stormont’s power-sharing government returned in 2007, headed by then Democratic Unionist Party leader Ian Paisley as fi rst minister and Sinn Féin’s Martin McGuinness as deputy fi rst minister. Th e two men had been bitter enemies for many years, but the decommissioning of IRA weapons in 2005 and Sinn Féin’s endorsement of policing in Northern Ireland paved the way for Stormont’s return. In the last assessment by the Independent Monitoring Commission, an offi cial body that monitored paramilitary activity that was wound down in 2010, it said it believed the Provisional IRA had “maintained its political course” and “would continue to do so”. With Northern Ireland’s chief constable now saying the Provisional IRA still exists and some of its members were involved in the murder of Kevin McGuigan, renewed focus has been placed on the stability of the institutions at Stormont. Earlier his party colleague, Jeff rey Donaldson, told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme that the DUP would move to exclude Sinn Féin from the Northern Ireland Executive. Th e Northern Ireland Executive is a power-sharing government drawing ministers from
the fi ve biggest parties in the assembly. On Wednesday, the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) said it intended to leave it.‘Premature’ Th e nationalist Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) and the cross-community Alliance Party also earlier met Ms Villiers. Following their meeting, SDLP members ruled out backing a motion to exclude Sinn Féin from the executive, saying they would require more evidence of IRA involvement in the murder of Kevin McGuigan Sr. Th ey said while they had sympathy with the Ulster Unionists over the issue, they believed they had acted prematurely in leaving the executive. Th e SDLP leader, Alasdair McDonnell, said his party would not make a “knee-jerk” decision as much more information was needed. Th e Alliance Party said Northern Ireland’s political situation was in “a very serious crisis and ever deepening”. Stormont’s Employment Minister Stephen Farry, who is from Alliance, said the party would judge its response to any exclusion motion on the evidence available at that time.‘Crisis’ On Tuesday, UUP leader Mike Nesbitt said he had chaired a meeting attended by the party’s MLAs, MEP, MPs, senior representatives of its councillors association
and its party chairman, and they had “unanimously” endorsed his recommendation to leave the executive. He said the party’s ruling body would make a fi nal decision on Saturday and if it was supported then the party would form an opposition. Sinn Féin has accused the UUP of creating a “crisis”. Th e party’s North Belfast MLA, Gerry Kelly, said Sinn Féin was prepared to sit and talk to all parties. He told BBC Radio Ulster’s Good Morning Ulster: “I do not think the executive should fall”. “Mike Nesbitt is trying to push the DUP into following them [the UUP],” he added. Th e Ulster Unionist announcement came as part of a political row that has followed the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s assertion that members of the Provisional IRA were involved in the murder of Mr McGuigan Sr earlier this month. Th e 53-year-old ex-IRA man, was killed in what police believe was part of a “fall-out” in republican circles aft er the murder of former IRA commander Gerard ‘Jock’ Davison in May. Police said an infrastructure exists at a senior level of the Provisional IRA, but that there was no evidence that Mr McGuigan’s murder was sanctioned by that hierarchy.

Ring Of Peace: Iconic
Belfast Mural ‘Speaks’
With ‘Advertising’ Addition
It is one of Belfast’s biggest murals and a well-known feature in the city’s Cathedral Quarter.Ring of Peace was originally painted in 1998 to mark the Good Friday Agreement. It is the work of the American-Chilean artist Francisco Letelier, and local artists from Queen Street Studios in the city. Now the Waring Street mural has an unexpected new addition as its central characters have decided to speak.Speech bubbles have been added, apparently advertising the services of a nearby fi rm.Artist Jennifer Trouton worked on the mural, and she is unhappy that it has been altered.“I was up and down the 60 foot scaff olding for several weeks in 1998, helping Francisco paint it,” she said.Prank“It was very signifi cant for me as I was a recent graduate and had studied in Belfast during the Troubles, so it was a very positive experience for me to paint something on this scale with this kind of message. She said she was “horrifi ed and shocked” when she noticed its new look.“I initially thought it was a prank - it’s certainly no Banksy.“Th ey’re not saying anything satirical or witty and they’re not making us look at the world
in any way diff erently.” Prof Bill Rolston from the University of Ulster is an expert in murals. He said the piece is signifi cant.“Th e Californian infl uence is quite evident in the style; it’s quite hippy-looking.Unwritten“It’s an aspirational mural, painted at a particular point in time in the enthusiasm of the Good Friday Agreement.“Th ere was the notion that here was a new dawn, so it fi ts that sort of optimism. “Probably if you painted it now it would be a bit darker, or a bit more confused!”He said that adding the speech bubbles was “ridiculous”.“Th ere is an unwritten rule here that you don’t destroy someone else’s mural unless it’s really dilapidated, and there’s always some negotiation or a nod towards the people who did the original mural.“Th at’s not been done here.”Whoever has altered the mural is not breaking any laws, and would not have had to apply for planning permission to insert the speech bubbles into the mural.Th e BBC made a number of eff orts to contact the owner of the building, but he did not reply to our calls and emails.
Th e additions to the mural do not break any laws but have they drawn criticism from some quarters

5 Reasons Why you have to Install Solar Panels this Year
Th e UK should have 10 million homes with solar panels before 2020 if the Government is to fulfi l its renewable energy targets. In order to hit these targets the Government is incentivising homeowners with huge
savings on their energy bills and tax free cash earnings.Th e government is rumoured to be considering the future of these incentives as experts are now suggesting that solar
pays for itself with a combination of low installation costs and high energy bill savings. If you are thinking of installing solar panels, you will want to do it sooner rather than later whilst you can still receive the generous tariff payments from the government. Th e tariff rate gets updated every three months with around a six month notice period on any changes.Once you get your solar panels, you ‘lock-in’ your guaranteed payments for the next 20 years regardless of what happens to the tariff in the future.Benefi ts of Solar
Th ere are various benefi ts to installing solar panels on your roof including tax free, government backed earnings and large savings on your energy bills. Here are the top 5:
1. Earn £14,000 from the Government feed-in tariff . Not only does the Government pay you for the energy you generate and use, but also the energy you don’t use. Th is money is TAX FREE and rises in line with infl ation2. Save 50% on your energy bills per year because the electricity you use when your solar panels are in use is 100% FREE3. Protect yourself from the rising energy costs and stop being dependent on large energy companies. You generate your own electricity!4. Reduce you carbon footprint and start doing your bit for the environment5. Add value to your home – Estate agents are now looking at solar panels as a revenue generating assetHow to get startedTh ere are thousands of solar panel installers in the UK however it is very important that you ensure they are MCs Accredited in order to be eligible for the above benefi ts. By comparing quotes from the UK’s leading MCs accredited solar installers in your area you will be able to ensure you qualify. Solar Panels are quick and easy to install, but fi rst you need to ensure you fi nd the right installer. Th e Eco Experts allows you to compare all your local installers and matches you with the most suitable oneStart comparing at www.ecoexperts.co.uk

not a fl ash-in-the-pan fad. But there are steps you can take right now that will make today healthier
than yesterday and pave the way for healthy living tomorrow, too.
Here's your checklist of practical healthy living tips that are ready to go. Let's get started.
Step No. 1: Take stock
Your fi rst step toward healthy living is to get a handle on your health status right now. Here's your to-do list:
Make appointments with your doctor and dentist. Catch up on your routine screening and immunizations, and take the opportunity to ask your doctor any questions you might have.
Gauge your girth. Measure your height and weight
to check your BMI, and measure your waist circumference to see if you're overweight and if your waistline is putting your health at risk.
Assess your activity. How much physical activity do you get in a typical week? How intense is that activity? How much variety do you get in your activity, and how
much do you enjoy it? The CDC recommends that adults get at least two and a half hours per week of moderate-intensity aerobic activity or one hour and 15 minutes per week of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity, plus muscle-strengthening activities at least two days per week. Keep a food diary. Write down everything you
eat for a day -- and no fair skipping the items you're embarrassed about. "The idea is to write it down ... without judgment," says Kathianne Sellers Williams,
MEd, RD, LD, a nutritionist, wellness coach, and personal trainer with Cafe Physique in Atlanta. "You can't change what you're not aware of or don't acknowledge." Check your mood and energy. Healthy living
includes emotional wellness and adequate rest. How
has your mood been lately? Are you experiencing any symptoms of depression or anxiety? Do you usually sleep well for seven to eight hours a night? Consider your social network. How strong
are your connections with family and friends? Are you plugged in with social or spiritual groups that enrich your life? "People have a fundamental need for positive and lasting relationships," C. Nathan DeWall, assistant professor of psychology at the University of Kentucky. If you're not thrilled with the answers to some of those questions, remember that the point is to fi gure out where you are today so you can set your healthy living
goals. It's not about being "good" or "bad," "right" or "wrong."
Step No. 2: Put out fi res
If you know that you have chronic health problems, whether it’s heart disease, diabetes, depression, arthritis, or other conditions, treatment is an obvious priority for healthy living. The same goes for risky behaviors, such as smoking, and addictions of any kind. Addressing these issues typically isn’t a do-it-yourself task. Partner with your doctor. Make the phone call today to schedule that appointment.
Step No. 3 Move more.
Here are top tips for increasing physical activity: Make it fun. Go on a hike, walk with friends, take a bellydancing or karate class, or whatever you enjoy.
There’s no need to stick to cardio equipment in the gym if you’re dreading it and you don’t like it, Find something that’s fun. Keep track of it. Make a note of your physical activity in your date book or calendar. Put big Xs on the
days that you exercise. Keep a visual record that you look at frequently as a reminder and motivator. Set a weekly goal for activity. To build your confi dence, make the fi rst goal so easy that you say, “I know I can do that,” We recommend weekly goals because if you set a daily goal and miss a day, you might get discouraged; weekly goals give you more day-to-day
fl exibility. And at the end of the week, reward yourself with a visual reminder of your accomplishment, such as buying fl owers for yourself. Work activity into your day. Ten percent of something is better than 100% of nothing. So even if you have 10 minutes, it’s better than zero minutes. We
suggest taking a 10-minute walk before lunch or walking up and down the stairs when you’re feeling drained and tired.
Other ideas include wearing a pedometer to track how many steps you take per day (health experts recommend shooting for 10,000 steps per day) and working with a personal trainer (double up with a friend to lower the cost) to create an exercise routine.
Step No. 4: Upgrade your diet.
A nutritionist for a dozen years, says her diet advice isn’t about eating certain foods and avoiding others as much as it is about awareness and choices. Here are her
pointers: Replace “I should” with “I choose.” So instead of “I should be eating more fruits and vegetables,” it’s “I choose to eat more fruits and vegetables” or “I choose not to,” because it’s more powerful language,” Williams says. “It shows that you’re in control, you’re making the choice. So if you choose to or you choose not to, you make the choice and you move on.”Skip the guilt. “Usually, whenever someone feels guilty about something, it feeds right back to the behavior that they’re trying to get rid of,” Williams says. “So if someone is an emotional eater and they say, ‘I know I shouldn’t be doing this,” it implies more guilt and judgment on themselves, they feel worse, and then they end up eating to comfort themselves.”Choose to plan. Stock your pantry with healthy fare and bring healthy snacks with you so you’re prepared when you get hungry. “When we’re really hungry, our
physiology kicks in and that’s when we’re craving the hamburger and fries; we’re not craving a salad,” Williams says.
Slow down and savor your food. Don’t watch TV, work, or drive while you’re eating. “A lot of people tell me, ‘My problem is that I really like food,’ but I think that’s a really good thing,” Williams says. “If you really enjoy food, sit down and enjoy your meal. You’re much more likely to feel psychologically satisfi ed if you don’t multitask while you’re eating.”Shoot for fi ve to nine daily servings of varied fruits and vegetables. Cover the rainbow of fruit and vegetable colors to get a good mix of nutrients. “If you’re not getting the rainbow, you’re probably not getting all the nutrients that you need,” Williams says.
Step No. 5: Manage stress
We recommend making two different plans to handle stress.
Routine maintenance: Develop positive coping skills, such as meditation and visualization, and look for activities, such as yoga or exercise, to keep your baseline stress level in check.
Breakthrough stress: Find ways to handle stressful situations that fl are up without warning. For instance, Williams says that after a stressful meeting at work, you might run up and down the stairs a few times to burn off anger, or retreat to a bathroom stall to take a few deep breaths and refocus.

4. Pull this piece across the top of the left ponytail over into the right ponytail. Don’t twist the hair as you bring it across.
5. Next, separate a half inch section of hair from the outside of the right ponytail.
6. Pull this piece across the top of the right ponytailover to the left ponytail.
7. Repeat steps 3-6 untilyou run out of hair. Don’t worry if it’s messy, that’s

Food Myths: The Truth About Sell-By Dates, What You Can Freeze And More
Myths and misconceptions are costing us almost £300 a year in food that’s chucked for no good reason – these are the facts about what you can and can’t keepNEVER put eggs in the fridgeWe’re throwing 10% of our food in the bin, as fruit, veg, meat and more go off before we get a chance to eat it – and that’s before we start talking about left overs from fi nished meals. An average of nine items of fruit and veg and two meat, bread or dairy items are thrown out of each household, each week. And that’s costing us. Figures from ao.comshow this waste adds up to an average of £5.48 a week – that’s £284.96 a year. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Especially as a lot of the waste comes as a result of simple misconceptions.Getting your facts straightTh e fi rst thing to know is exactly what is and isn’t fi t to eat. Th ere’s no point letting a misconception cost you perfectly edible food.Firstly – this is what the labels REALLY mean:
may no longer be at their best.
be eaten up to the end of this date but not aft er even if it looks and smells fi ne.
staff not for shoppers. Ignore entirely.
Aft er that, there are a lot of misconceptions about where things should be stored – for example, bread actually goes
eggs in there either.
Other things you can keep out without any fear of them going off include HP sauce, jam and potatoes – and that just frees up space for the things that can really benefi t from cold storage
Th e next thing is to know what you can and can’t freeze. In a lot of cases something that goes off when fresh can either be frozen when it’s close to its expiry or frozen immediate-ly and defrosted as and when needed.Cheese, milk, mushrooms, rice, yogurt, cream and
ed – massively extending its working life.Eggs can be frozen too – just not in their shells. If you crack them, then beat them you can freeze the liquid for use later. What’s more, you CAN re-freeze meat aft er it’s been defrosted. Just make sure it’s cooked through between the fi rst and second freezing. In fact, there are any number of things that might be better off in the freezer than the bin – from left over baked beans to browning bananas.

Three Mile Water Gets The Green Light At the August Planning Committee meeting of Antrim and Newtowbnabbey Council, the training complex proposed by Crusaders FC on the Th reemilewater site (Doagh Road, Monkstown) received full planning permission. Th e Complex, aimed at providing a top class facility for Womens, Youth and grassroots community sport is part of Crusaders FC’s aim to grow within a major catchment area to the north of the city. Th e next steps for the Th reemilewater scheme is a full community consultation with schools, sports clubs, youth organisations and residents groups in the Ballyduff and Monkstown areas, the development of a full business case and an application for funding. Crusaders fans are advised that whilst securing planning permission is a major step forward, the timescale envisaged for the scheme could be up to 3 years, and is subject to funding. Planning permission for a new South Stand at Seaview was submitted some months ago to Belfast City Council and it is anticipated that a decision will be made before the end of October 2015.

Tragedy Overshadows
Ulster Grand Prix Lee Johnston was declared man of the meeting at the Metzeler Grand Prix at Dundrod. On his East Coat/Burdens BMW and Triumph machinery the 26 year old Maguiresbridge rider notched a fantastic treble with wins in the Superstock and both supersport races.Th e meetings was overshadowed by the tragic death of Scottish rider 24 year old Andy Lawson who was killed while competing in the second supersport race following a high speed crash on the fourth lap, at the deers leap section of the course. Th e opening superstock race gave Johnston his fi rst ever Ulster Grand Prix victory aft er a sensational battle with Peter Hickman that went right down to the wire. With a new lap record at 132.793mph. Johnston beat Hickman on the Briggs Equipment BMW by only 0.090 seconds as Michael Dunlop fi nished third on his MD racing BMW. Switching to his Triumph machine Johnstone made it two wins from two starts by winning the fi rst Supersport race. In a titanic battle with William Dunlop, unbeatable this season on the CD racing Yamaha, Johnston claimed another new class lap record at 128.93mph to win by 0.039 seconds with Gearlink Kawasaki mounted Glen Irwin from Carrickfergus snatching third place from Kiwi Bruce Anstey. Win number three came from Johnston in the ill-fated second Supersport event which was red fl agged with the result declared aft er three laps, giving Johnston victory by 0.4 seconds from second placed Glen Irwin as Ian Hutchinson settled for third 0.1 seconds behind Irwin.Th e fi rst superbike race provided more riveting viewing for the large crowd lining the 7.4 mile course.Th e race revolved around fi ve riders, Anstey, Ian Hutchinson, Peter Hickman and Conor Cummins, with Anstey and Hutchinson having spells at the front in the heart stopping encounter before the red fl ag came out at the end of lap six due to an accident involving Tom McHale who was injured. With the result taken from the end of lap four, Anstey was declared the winner by 0.037 seconds from a disappointed Hutchinson, Johnston was third 0.6 seconds down on Anstey. Aft er a long delay aft er Andy Lawson’s accident racing continued at the request of his family. In the concurrently run lightweight races, Sam Wilson aboard the Joey’s bar Honda, easily won
the 250cc class from Neil Kernohan and James Cowton. Czech Michael Dokoupil dominated the 400cc fi eld taking the win by 30 seconds clear of Scotsman Callum Laidlaw with Stephen Morrison a distant third and in the Moto3/125 race it was Christian Elkin, recovered from a high speed practice crash, grabbed the honours by 18.2 seconds with Conor Behan snatching the runner up spot from Nigel Moore. In treacherous conditions recently crowned Irish Supertwins champion Derek McGee was under pressure throughout the four demanding lap Supertwins race, eventually taking the chequered fl ag and his fi rst international victory by 1.8 seconds clear of James Cowton, followed by Dan Cooper. When it came to the fi nal weather beaten superbike race reduced to four laps, Peter Hickman was a man on a mission and making his intentions clear stormed away from the lights into the lead. Th e 28 year old Louth rider making his only second Dundrod appearance was really fl ying and leading from the start to fi nish held off a strong challenge from Manxman Conor Cummins and Michael Dunlop, but the determined Hickman grimly held on to snatch a memorable 0.028 seconds win over Cummins, the fi nal podium place going to Dunlop a further 0.9 seconds back in third place.
