IT’S ENROLLMENT TIME! Re-enrollment for current First Lutheran Church & School families has begun; we will open enrollment to new families beginning March 1. We will once again be selling greetings as a fundraiser. We did this at Halloween. We will deliver Valentine greetings on Thursday, February 12th, and Friday, February 13th. Greeting order forms will be available in each classroom and in the office beginning this Friday, February 6. All greeting orders need to be turned in to classroom teachers and/or the office by 3:30 on Wednesday, February 11. Greetings cost $0.25 each.

Proceeds will be used to sponsor church projects.

FIRST LUTHERAN SCHOOL PTL AUCTION: Mark your calendars now; the date for the auction this year will be April 11, 2015! Please consider helping with the auction; this is the biggest fundraiser of the PTL each year, and it takes a lot of help to pull it off! We are in the midst of gathering donations for the Auction. If you would like to donate something yourself, or if you would be willing to assist with calling or visiting businesses and asking for donations, please contact Michelle in daycare, or the school office and they will get your information to the Auction Committee. Thanks for your help!

TAX STATEMENTS: If you would like a printout of your payments to First Lutheran during 2014 for tax purposes, please stop by the office/send me a FastDirect-mail/or call the school at 762-9950. You can also print them off yourself by logging into your FastDirect account, scroll down to the bar that says “2007 Tax Year Printout”, change the year to 2014, and click the box that has “Tax Year Printout” in it. (The statement also has our Tax ID # on it that you will need if you are able to write off any of your payments.) Remember that not all payments to FLS are tax deductible, and you should contact a tax advisor to find out what can be written off, and what cannot.

SNOW DAY NOTIFICATION PROCEDURE: In the event that school may be cancelled due to inclement weather, we will again follow Ponca City Public Schools schedule. Listen to your radio during the cancellation announcements, and if Ponca City Schools are cancelled, First Lutheran will be out, also; however, there will NOT be a separate announcement for First Lutheran. If you have any questions, please contact the office prior to the snow day event.

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Herard: Praying for those out with illness that they are better soon and able to return to school. We miss you! This is an exciting week! Dress up days are always fun and we enjoyed pajama day very much. You can dress up again for Thursday when we go to the Stephen Fite concert (wild west). Please remember everyone must come to the classroom for wristbands before heading to the theater. Please be sure children have on appropriate jackets for the weather as we may have to wait outside for several minutes to get everyone together and enter as a group. We will load the bus at 9:15 so should arrive there around 9:30. We will get back to school after our usual class time so children that are staying for lunch will eat in the CC room. (PB sandwiches, etc.) Notes regarding our Valentines parties are in backpacks today. They may bring valentines at any time for the class. Our theme for the week is "Penguins" and we are learning about the letter "P". We are also working on rhyming words. Have a blessed week and stay well!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN - Mrs. Kelly: Stephen Fite Concert is tomorrow! Please remember that everyone needs a wristband to get in. Stop by my classroom to pick yours up before you go to the theater. If your child is coming back to school, school lunch will be peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in our building. It is going to be a great time! Last week was a crazy week! Thank you for your prayers for me and my family. Thank you Michelle and Mrs. Mayer for taking good care of my kids! Show and Tell will be on Friday. Book orders are due to me or online by Friday. Our Valentine party is on Friday, February 13th. Our Bible words are, We love because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19. We are learning the letter "O" and the number "14" this week. Have a blessed week!

KINDERGARTEN - Ms. Miller: We will have show and tell this Friday the 6th. Please, bring something that will fit in your backpack. Our Stephen Fite Concert is this Thursday, Feb. 5th. Parents must come into the classroom to get their wristband ticket that morning. We will load the bus with the children at 9:15 a.m. and meet the parents at the Poncan Theatre's front door around 9:25. They require us to go in as one big group. After the show we will eat in our classroom building. We will have PB&J sandwiches for hot lunch or your child can bring their lunch. Our Valentine party will be Friday the 13th at 2:30 and everyone is welcome. Your child may bring their Valentines anytime next

week. We have 18 students. Please have your child just put their name on the card (do not address cards to children). This way we can just drop any card in each sack. Have a great week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory verse for Friday - We love because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19. Thursday is our Stephen Fite Concert field trip. Parents will need to come to the classroom to get your wristband ticket. The students will be getting on the bus at 9:15. After the concert, we will be having lunch in our classrooms. School lunch will be brought over to us. The lunch will be peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Remember to bring your shoe box - we will be working on these on Friday. Have a blessed week! We will have our Valentine's Day party next Friday, Feb. 13. The children may bring valentine's to exchange.

SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: Happy February! Our Valentine's party will be Friday, February 13. Mrs. Harland will be calling to remind you of what you signed up to bring. We will be decorating our Valentine's boxes this Friday and the children may bring their Valentines to share any day next week. Hug someone you love. Blessings. . .

THIRD GRADE - Mrs. Steichen: What a great first week of February: tests, book reports, and a surprise birthday party. Thank you so much for all the gifts and the wonderful surprise party. I am so blessed to have each of your children in my class, they are a huge blessing to me and I cannot tell you all how thankful I am for each of them, and their families. This week: Memory: 2nd Article. Reading and Spelling Test on Friday. Math: Test today, and facts 0,1,2,5,10 this week. Next week we will add the 9s, look for flash cards by the end of the week. Book Reports: Due on Thursday! I have some coming in and they are looking great! If you have any questions please let me know. Science: We had our test over weather this week. Our next Unit is Earth and Space. Valentine's Day: Party will be Friday, February 13th. Each child needs to bring in a decorated box to collect their Valentines. Talent Show: I have applications; please get those turned in to me by the 12th. Have a great week!

FOURTH GRADE - Mrs. Sibley:. Congratulations to Titus, Jonathan, Aliyah, and Trinity for making their Book It goal for January! We are back into the swing of things with full weeks and a normal routine. I hear that we are working hard on our Valentine’s Day Box for the contest. Remember to keep your real idea a secret, so on Valentine’s Day we will not know the real creator of the box. Book orders are due today. Please go over the midterms with students, and return within two days.

FIFTH GRADE - Mrs. Schatte: We are busy here in 5th grade. Monday we discussed country reports. A sheet with directions for this report should have come to you on Monday. Rough drafts for this social studies report are due on March 6, and the final copy is due March 13. This is an out-of-class project, with most of the research done either in computer class or at home. Please guide your child along the way on this report. We will spend class time discussing how to do this report, but not actually researching material for it. Tests this week include spelling, reading, and social studies chapter 6 on Friday. We have spent time reviewing in class for the social studies test, but it is important to study the review sheet at home on a nightly basis. Please quiz your child to see that he/she knows the material. Happy birthday in the fabulous month of February to Brantley (28).

2/24 5:00, Po-Hi Auditorium, Future Freshman Mtg for current 8th Graders

PO-HI 2015/2016 FRESHMAN PARENT MEETING: Future freshman parents will meet at 5:00 p.m. in the Po-Hi

Auditorium on February 24th . School administration and counselors will be presenting important information about pre-enrollment, courses, credits, graduation requirements, AP and Pre-AP classes, and student life at Po-Hi. STUCCO members will be giving tours of the high school following the Parent meeting. All parents in attendance will be eligible for door prizes for their Future Freshman. Teachers will be available in the Commons to answer questions about classes. Coaches will be available in the Commons to give information about sports, and teacher sponsors will be there to talk about clubs/activities.

Mrs. Harbeson: Hello Everyone! I hope you all are doing well! It seems lately that we've had an extraordinary amount of activities going on at school. I know that sometimes things get a bit overwhelming, and I want to encourage you to just take it one day (or a week) at a time. When life seems to be spinning out of control, remember that God knows what each one of us needs, and He will always give us the strength and perseverance to keep going. One of my favorite Bible passages comes from Jeremiah 29: 11-13. "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." God loves us so much,

Page 4: Chatter 2 4 15

and He does care about our every little worry. I hope that you will remember His words when you think that you just can't handle one more thing! (Please know that as I type this, I'm trying to take my own words of advice!) Be sure to check out my school announcements page for a list of weekly activities and plan accordingly. We reach mid-quarter this Wednesday. Students, you still have plenty of time to get those grades up if you are not happy with your grades so far. Blessings on the rest of your week!

Mrs. Hanson: 6th Grade will have a test next Tuesday. We have been reviewing this week and will do some activities to solidify the content and will have a quiz to check for any last minute areas of weakness.

7th Grade will be beginning their first science research project on the volcano of their choice. They have a rubric to follow and know what it is expected.

8th Grade is cruising through DNA replication, transcription, and translation like champs! I am so proud of them for understanding the material so well. And this is all stuff they will be covering at the high school level! They will have a quiz this week.

Mr. Covert: We’re halfway through the third quarter! It’s hard to believe that January has gone by so quick. We’re starting to move a little quicker in each class. In 8th grade, we’re going to start jumping ahead a bit here at the end of the War of 1812. We’re going to talk about westward expansion briefly before moving on to the Civil War. In 7th grade, we’re starting to work our way through Europe. And in 6th grade, we’re through the Roman Empire. We will be discussing the rise of Christianity, and then hitting highlights of some of the major events over the next five hundred years as we head forward to the Middle Ages.

Blessings on the rest of your week! Mrs. Goll: Has your child completed his “teach the parent” assignment? The deadline for that assignment is

tomorrow, Feb. 5. The assignment is worth 10 points. All classes are nearing test time again. Pre-algebra and algebra will have tests on Thursday. Sixth and seventh graders will test on Monday or Tuesday. I will be emphasizing neatness and showing work; please ask your student to show you his recent work. Overall quality of daily work ranges from excellent to “really little effort”. Blessings on your week as you Seek Him first. We wish Alex good luck as he competes in the regional MathCounts event in Tulsa on Saturday.

Bulletin & Newsletter:

90th

Anniversary Celebration: First Lutheran Church will be reaching its 90th

Anniversary

milestone on Friday – February 20, 2015. Our theme is Psalm 90:1 “Lord, you have been our

dwelling place through all generations.”

Our Mission is “Growing up into Jesus, Reaching out with Jesus, Walking together in Jesus!”

We have several items in the works throughout the year to foster this mission. We are trying to

get a Proclamation for that actual date and possibly meet downtown at the location of where the

first services were held 90 years ago.

The School is holding a Talent Show that Friday night – February 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the school

gym.

Saturday – February 21, we will continue the celebration with a party at the YMCA from 6:30

p.m. - 10 p.m. for the Church and School families. Please bring some canned food for our food

bank or a free will donation to be used for 90th

Anniversary expenses.

Former FLC Pastor Marvin Henschel will preach for both services conducted by current Pastor

Jeremy May on Sunday morning – February 22. Traditional Service at 8:30 and Contemporary

Service at 11 with Bible Class lead by Pastor Henschel at 10 a.m. A Potluck lunch in the

School Cafeteria will follow the second service. Please bring food to share. Drinks will be

provided.

On Friday – February 27 at 6:30 p.m. the PTL will be hosting a Sock Hop in the school gym.

Please bring some canned food for our food bank or a free will donation to be used for 90th

Anniversary expenses.

As we reach our 90th

Anniversary, Relay for Life celebrates its 30th

birthday. We want to “reach

out” and “walk together” in our community on Saturday – May 16. The event is at the Ambucs

Motorcross Track (1005 W Prospect Ave - Ponca City) from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. but you can come

and go any time through this period. You can help us raise funds to fight cancer but it is not

required. Please register with our “First Lutheran” team at the www.RelayForLife.org. Find

our event and join our team. (Watch for more ways to participate in the months to come.)

In April we will be having Church Directory photos with Lifetouch. The dates are April 10-12

and 14-15 with more information provided at a later time. Be prepared to smile.

Mark your calendar for Sunday – September 20. Former FLC Pastor Tom Ramsey will lead

our worship with a Potluck luncheon to follow.

We are planning a catered meal on Sunday – October 11 with possibly one joint service and

guest speaker.

Please make plans to attend our events and celebrate 90 years of the Lord’s blessings.

FIRST LUTHERAN SCHOOL - PONCA CITY, OK 2015-2016 FEES

We praise God for you partnering with us. Our goal is to provide quality Christian education with the best use of our

God given talents and resources. Total tuition and enrollment fees provide a little over 55% of the cost of our school
