Mrs. Harbeson: Have you been able to enjoy this beautiful weather? I hope so! God is sure giving us a

wonderful gift in the middle of winter! We have a lot going on at school right now. As you read this, the FLS 6th grade basketball tournament is in full swing. All basketball and cheer families are asked to sign up to help run this tournament. Some families have been pulling double and even triple duty when it comes to helping out. If you have a basketball player or cheerleader and haven't signed up to help with a time for the gate, concessions, clock, or book, please call Tomi Faulkner or FastDirect me, and I will help you get signed up. It takes everyone to run a successful

Page 3: Chatter 1 21 15 1

tournament and not burn out families who are doing more than their fair share! Speaking of Tomi, thank you for all your hard work during this busy time. Your efforts are MUCH appreciated! Parents and Students, please be sure to stay up with your assignments in every class. It is really important to hand in every assignment "on time every time." With all sorts of illnesses and "yuck" going around, make sure that you make up all work if you happen to miss school. That's it for now. Blessings on the rest of your week!

Mrs. Hanson: Mini cheer clinic is February 9-12 after school from 3:30-4:30 in the cafeteria. Please see the attached sign up form for more information.

This is also our next spirit week to get pepped up for our Topeka tournament. We will be announcing dress up days soon.

Next week the 7th Grade class is hosting the FLS 6th Grade Basketball tournament as a fundraiser for D.C. If you would like to work the concessions, run the clock, man the gate to raise money for your D.C. trip next year, please sign up on the spreadsheet on my website.

The deadline for reserving a hotel room for the Topeka tournament is quickly approaching so please make sure you do so. Again, information is on my website.

Mr. Covert: Hello and welcome to the third week of the third quarter here at FLS! Things are moving right along after the long weekend. In 8th grade, we’re going to start discussing the Jefferson Era, beginning around 1801. In 7th grade, we’re going to take a short break from the book and do some work on states and capitals for a little bit. And 6th grade is just about to the transition from the Roman Republic to the Roman Empire.

Blessings on the rest of your week! Mrs. Goll: We are testing in all math classes this week. We have been covering a lot of new material lately;

most is not terribly difficult IF students learn the steps to solving the problems and follow them. All those steps stick in the brain better when students show their work. They also stick better when students do at least a few minutes of review each day outside of class. I’ve put an extra credit opportunity on my FastDirect Bulletin Board. Ask your student if he/she took advantage of that opportunity. Please ask your student to bring his textbook home this week and share with you what our new chapter will be covering. Blessings on your week.

Recycle ink & toner cartridges, cell phones, etc.: First Lutheran School collects, and benefits from, donations

of used/empty ink/toner cartridges, old cell phones, BoxTops for Education, Campbell’s soup labels, and Coke points! Do you throw away ink or toner cartridges @ work? Do the kids on your child’s team drink Powerade’s or Dasani water (with Coke points under the lid)? Possibly your youth group had a lock-in and served cans of Coke, Sprite, Minute Maid or Fanta, (with Coke points on the inside flap of the box they came in?) Those ring binders that your office uses may have BoxTops points on the labels! Please send all of these items to school with your child or drop them off at the school office, and your school will benefit from it! We can use the proceeds/points from these companies to purchase playground balls, classroom and office supplies, and discounts on our toner/ink needs, which all helps to keep your costs down! THANKS for your help!
