to enter the Chili Cook Off or just enjoy the food while learning more about Relay for Life. This organization helps find a cure for cancer. If you would like an Entry Form, please contact our school office.

CHAPEL OFFERING: Dimes for Downs will be our Chapel Offering this month; they will use the money donated to bring wishes to life for people with Downs Syndrome. Thank you to Kelli Chamberlin for being our guest speaker today.

MINI CHEER SIGN-UPS: Details and sign-up forms for Mini-cheer will be coming out soon; please watch Facebook and the Chatter for dates and cost. Sign-ups will be due to the school office by Wednesday, January 28.

FREDDY’S NIGHT: Thursday, January 15 is Freddy’s night! Eat at Freddy’s between 4-8 pm and give them the coupon attached to this Chatter, and they will give the PTL a portion of the proceeds from your purchase. See you there!

LUNCH SCHEDULE CHANGE: - After picking up more children, and a great cook, and more students eating, we are needing to adjust our lunch schedule to accommodate these improvements. Starting Tuesday - January 20, the PK-1st will be leaving for lunch ten minutes earlier, the 4th & 5th will go at 11:40, 2nd & 3rd at 11:50, and middle school at 12:25. Thank you for your patience with our lunch program.

GEOGRAPHY BEE: First Lutheran will hold the school wide Geography Bee next Wednesday, January 21, at 10:00 a.m. in the gym.

SPELLING BEE: First Lutheran will host the regional spelling bee in the church fellowship hall at 7 p.m. on January 27. Jamison Doornbos and Jayden Sparks will represent FLS at that bee.

TAX STATEMENTS: If you would like a printout of your payments to First Lutheran during 2014 for tax purposes, please stop by the office/send me a FastDirect-mail/or call the school at 762-9950. You can also print them off yourself by logging into your FastDirect account, scroll down to the bar that says “2007 Tax Year Printout”, change the year to 2014, and click the box that has “Tax Year Printout” in it. (The statement also has our Tax ID # on it that you will need if you are able to write off any of your payments.) Remember that not all payments to FLS are tax deductible, and you should contact a tax advisor to find out what can be written off, and what cannot.

SNOW DAY NOTIFICATION PROCEDURE: In the event that school may be cancelled due to inclement weather, we will again follow Ponca City Public Schools schedule. Listen to your radio during the cancellation announcements, and if Ponca City Schools are cancelled, First Lutheran will be out, also; however, there will NOT be a separate announcement for First Lutheran. If you have any questions, please contact the office prior to the snow day event.

FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH SALAD LUNCHEON: is scheduled for Friday, February 13, 2014 in the First Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults and $2.00 for pre-school or below, and are available in the church or school office. Proceeds will be used to sponsor church projects.

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Herard: I am so ready for spring and warmer days! Brr. Although, this week we are learning about snow so it would be wonderful to see some. We are working every day on recognizing our letters and the sounds they make, recognizing numbers and counting objects, and writing our names. Extra practice at home would be fantastic if you can work it in. Our letter for the week is "M". Remember Parent/Teacher conference day is Jan 19, so please let me know if you would like to schedule an appointment to meet. Book orders are due the 21st. God Bless!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN - Mrs. Kelly: Happy Birthday Quinn! Thank you for sending your report cards back. We still have some out, please return those tomorrow. Our chapel offering this month is Dimes for Downs; please consider giving to this cause. Our book order is due back to me or online on Friday, January 16th. We will celebrate our 100th day of school on Friday, January 30th. Please look for the note in backpacks today. We will not have school on Monday, January 19th. Our Bible words this week are, I trust in you, O Lord. Psalm 31:14 We are learning the letter "R" and the number "11" this week. Have a blessed week!

KINDERGARTEN - Ms. Miller: I forgot to put show & tell in last week’s Cardinal Chatter, so we are going to have show & tell again this Friday the 16th. FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Memory for Friday - For God so loved the world, that He gave his only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16. I am still missing a few report cards; please sign and return to me. January book orders are due on Friday. There is no school on Monday. SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: Baby it's cold outside! What a mighty God we serve! He gives us changing seasons and ways to keep warm in this particularly cold one! We are BLESSED! Thanks for promptly returning report cards. The children did amazing on their memory work last week. Thanks for your help at home. Remember that we'll be saying the second commandment this Thursday. THIRD GRADE - Mrs. Steichen: What a cold start to this week. I pray the warm weather comes and we are able to get outside. This week: Religion: 9th Commandment and its meaning, due on Friday. Reading: Review week and a special art/writing project. Spelling: Review words and next week we will do A Man Who Invented Basketball. Book Report: Please be on the lookout for the next book report. A.R. We are off to a great start, let’s keep it up! Also, a huge thank you to Rachael Hamre for setting up our A.R. party - we all had a blast! Math: we had a test on Tuesday, and will have one next week again. We are starting multiplication, so we will be testing on facts in the next couple weeks. Mark your Calendar for April 24th and May 5th - we have field trips scheduled for both those days (both are all day), I will be sending home more information when we get closer. FOURTH GRADE - Mrs. Sibley: We are back into the swing of school. Keep practicing math facts and concepts. This helps to ensure that we have speed and accuracy for more difficult math problems. FIFTH GRADE - Mrs. Schatte: Greetings from 5th! Tests this week include spelling and reading on Friday as usual. Early next week holds social studies test 5 and math test 11. We congratulate Ben, Brantley, and Jenna for representing our class in the Geography Bee one week from today at 10 a.m. in the gym. We cheer our basketball teams on as they compete in many games these next couple of weeks. We also encourage Tanner and Tyler as they compete in arena cross races. Both boys are quite good and have taken home trophies. We're also proud of Ashton as he wrestles. He, too, has done quite well. What talented young people we have in this class! Middle School Dance: Many thanks to Max Jackson for being our DJ for our dance. Also thanks to the

parents who helped decorate and chaperone: Mrs. Warnecke, Mrs. Patel, and Mrs. Smith. Thank you, Mrs. Webster for taking pictures. Thank you, Mrs. Harbeson & Mr. Covert, for taking the lead. And thanks, Student Council, for all your help in planning, decorating, and cleaning up.

Student Council: We’ll be electing new student council representatives soon. Please get your letter to Mrs. Goll this week if you’d like to be on the ballot.

Mrs. Harbeson: Happy 2015!! I hope everyone is back into the swing of things. It was great seeing a lot of you at the dance last Friday night! I hope you all had tons of fun and made some great memories. A huge thanks goes to Helen Smith, Niki Patel, Darleanna Warnecke, and to our student council members and parents who helped decorate, who brought snacks, and who stayed to clean up. I'd also like to thank FLS alumnus Max Jackson, Will Harbeson, and Ash Patel for being our DJ's for the evening. You guys did an awesome job! Student/parent/teacher conferences are coming up on Monday, January 19, so the kids will be out of school that day. Mrs. Hanson: 8th Grade can be expecting a quiz by the end of the week over mitosis and meiosis. They are grasping the content very quickly.

7th Grade is studying earthquakes, ask your student to tell you more about them. 6th Grade has had a paradigm shift in their learning process. We are no longer concerned with memorizing;

facebook page to reserve your hotel room for the weekend. Mr. Covert: Week two of the second semester is here and things are in full swing here at FLS! We’ve started

attacking the content and we’ve got a good jump on things in every class. 6th grade is wrapping up the Roman Republic, and we’ll be tracking the ascent of it into an empire that shaped the rest of Western Civilization. In 7th grade, we’re finishing up our unit on South America, and we’ll be moving on into Europe after that. The 8th grade is getting done with a chapter on the Constitution and how it works in our daily lives before we go into the late 1700’s and the challenges that came with being a young nation.

Also, parent-teacher conferences are Monday, January 19th! If you feel that we should meet and discuss how your child is doing, send me a fast direct message and we can set up a time on Monday to meet.

Blessings on the rest of your week! Mrs. Goll: Algebra will test on Friday over solving and graphing linear inequalities. Sixth graders are

concluding their unit on fraction operations. Seventh graders are working on functions and graphing. Pre-algebra students are winding up their unit on ratios, proportions, and probability. All math classes are getting into more complex concepts. A ten minute review each evening will help the new material to “stick”. God bless you this week as you seek Him first.

ELIGIBILITY TO PARTICIPATE (team sports, cheerleading, or other extra-curricular activities): With the approaching track season, please remember that students involved in extra-curricular activities will have their grade status evaluated at the beginning of every three

weeks. A student who has a grade below 70% in any subject will be put on probation. During that time, the student will be given an opportunity to raise the grade above 69.9%. The student must take action to raise the grade. Failure to raise the grade will result in

suspension from the extra-curricular activity until the next three week grade check. After the first probationary period, a student will be suspended from the extra-curricular activity when any grade drops below 70%. Suspensions are enforced and lifted on the first school day

of the week. (Any students failing a subject on their report card will be suspended from extra-curricular activities until all grades are passing at the three week check point.)
