The Dolphin Club...27 years and still going strong! Newsletter for the Dolphin Motorhome Club Dolphin Chapter of FMCA THE PRESIDENTS MESSAGE Chartered: 3-9-89 Volume 28 issue 7 July 2016 Hi again to all of my Dolphin friends. I hope all of you who are traveling are having fun and are seeing some new and interesting places. We hope to hear of your adventures and see some pictures the next time we get together. Keep your radar on looking for some fun places for the club. Adrian and I are staying close to home this summer as Adrian will be having cataract surgery in August for one eye and two months later the other. His eye doctor said that if he did not have the procedure he would not be able to pass his next DMV eye test. We will be good to go for Tahoe and we are looking forward to this great rally and seeing you all. I hope those who have had or are going thru some health issues are on the mend and are ready to have some RV fun. I heard from Sandy Mayer recently and he will not be able to take over as club Historian. Therefore Im putting out a call for a volunteer to take over the duties as our Historian. Some may think that this is not an important position but it truly is as we must record and sustain our history which is approaching thirty years. I want to again thank Pat Cohen for her great job in this position. Please think it over and step forward to keep the legacy of The Dolphins. See you in Tahoe. Be safe. Brian Forstmaier – President. THE PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Volume 28 issue 7 July 2016

Hi again to all of my Dolphin friends.

Therefore I’m putting out a call for a volunteer to take over the duties as our Historian.

The Dolphins

THE VICE PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Hi all, This month we will address maintenance for our slide rooms. Slide-outs are a fantastic addition to our RVs. They add elbowroom and comfort in our coaches. However, your RV slide-outs need some attention to ensure they provide you with trouble-free service. It’s important to keep the seals around the slide clean and lubricated. The slide’s rubber seals age and dry out, which then allows water to seep through the cracks. This damage can be caused by extreme temperatures or exposure to ultra violet rays, and once the seals have begun to rot, the rubber will have to be completely replaced. In order to help keep the slide-out seals from premature failure, be sure to use a rubber seal conditioner or a silicone spray at least every couple months to treat the seals and prevent cracking. There are many products on the market providing UV protection and help prevent deterioration. In addition to conditioning the seals, the metal parts of your RV’s slide-outs also need special attention to avoid leaving you stuck with your slides extended. The mechanisms which allow the extension to move in and out can be compromised by rust or corrosion, causing difficulties when extending or retracting the slide-out. One of the easiest ways to help protect and lubricate the metal parts of the assembly is with a dry lube made specifically for slide-outs. Using one of these products will not only lubricate rusty parts, but will also protect them from the elements, ensuring your mechanism stays clean and runs smoothly. When looking for a product to use on your slide-out, it’s important to avoid thick, oily lubricants, as they can collect sand, dust, and dirt as you drive, which can cause other problems. Using a “dry” lubricant will help displace moisture and prevent corrosion without gumming up the moving parts, keeping your slide-out working like new. It’s important to re-lubricate the mechanism every couple months to make sure it can still move in and out properly. Simply apply to your slide rams and wipe off the excess with a soft rag. All of you have a great summer and safe travels. Hope to see some of you at Lake Tahoe in September or Palm Desert in November. I’m running out of topics to address, so unless I experience an issue this summer, I will resume the monthly VP message after the summer. Safe Travels, Don

CONGRATULATIONS

their first grandchild, a beautiful girl named Olivia Nicole, born on June 17, 2016 at

beautiful little baby girl we've ever seen. Mother and baby are doing well…
