Meeting News: Business as usual! This month we
planned for our upcoming Labor
Day Weekend. Ordering product for
the food, drink and sno cone
concessions. Typing up scripts for
the announcers of the parade and
helping get our Jr. Rodeo ready with
the final details.
Lion Vicki Bushek was awarded the
Melvin Jones Fellow for
demonstrating exceptional
commitment to Lionism.
The Constitution and By-Laws
committee started the difficult
process of reviewing and discussing
how to update our outdated rules for
the club. Not an easy task by any
means!!!!
Members from the club went to the
Summer Cabinet meeting in Min-
den hosted by the Carson Valley
Host Lions! We had a great time.
Many thanks to Lion Tom Lammel
for working behind the scenes for
getting signatures for road permits,
cars for the parade and sooooo
much more. He does so much more
than our members know!
The membership committee has
moved forward with our new volun-
teer program by ordering t-shirts
and setting up volunteers for our
Labor Day Festivities! Great Job!
Lions Bill and Joan Strohauer
worked very hard with our Jr. Ro-
deo club to help them get
ready. Thank you so much!
So much dedication not
enough room to mention eve-
ryone!

JOKE OF THE MONTH!
What do you call a bear with no
teeth? -- A gummy bear!
A BREIF HISTORY OF LIONS INTERNATIONAL FROM THEIR
WEBSITE!
In 1917, Melvin Jones, a 38-year-old Chicago business leader, told members of his local
business club they should reach beyond business issues and address the betterment of
their communities and the world. Jones' group, the Business Circle of Chicago, agreed.
After contacting similar groups around the United States, an organizational meeting was
held on June 7, 1917, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The new group took the name of one of
the invited groups, the "Association of Lions Clubs," and a national convention was held
in Dallas, Texas, USA in October of that year. A constitution, by-laws, objectives and a
code of ethics were approved. And the rest is history.
As we approach our 100th anniversary in 2017, it's moment to look back on our long and
proud tradition of service and the numerous achievements of our association and Lions
around the world.

RICHARD COOK BIO FOR SEPTEMBER 17, 2015 PRESENTATION AT
GENERAL MEETING, 7:00 PM FALLON SENIOR CENTER, PLEASE
COME AND LISTEN
My name is Richard Cook. I served in the military service for 20 years and
retired in 1975. I then worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 24
years as a Disaster Response Specialist and retired again. While in that ca-
pacity I responded to disasters world wide - (earthquakes, bombings, flooding,
etc.). Since that time I have become the Commander of the War Veterans
Memorial Honor Guard. We conduct funerals for any veteran in Northern
Nevada at any cemetery. We have gone so far as Austin, Nevada and Susan-
ville, California. We also do opening ceremonies with our color guard for such
things as the Special Olympics, Veterans Day, Memorial Day, etc. We also do
flag retirement ceremonies at several schools each year where we take down
the old flag, put up the new and then present the retired flag to whoever the
school designates. We march in parades also. I am a Founder of the Ghost
Soldiers Motorcycle Club. We have chapters in Fernley and
Dayton and another about to start up in Reno. We are a group of veterans
who assist veterans, active military, and their families in any way they may
need us. We have built handicap ramps for several, made a man-cave for an
amputee in his garage. We emptied out his garage, put in another window,
card table, pool table, large screen TV and stereo radio system. We even
clean up yards of those that can't do it any more. We send care packages to
our troops from Nevada serving overseas. We have built two monuments at
the Veterans Cemetery here in Fernley and will be putting in two more be-
fore the end of the year. Lastly, I am a member of the Patriot Guard Rid-
ers. When requested, we form a flag line around the front of the funeral at-
tendees not only as a show of patriotism, but to guard against any protesters
who may come. ask.
