Welcome Our New Chaplain

Father Schierer grew up down the road in Franklin Farm and attended St. Joseph’s Church in Herndon with his parents and three brothers. He graduated from Paul VI High School before studying Biology at the College of William and Mary in Virginia. During his college years, he was active in the college council (11501) and even served as Grand Knight. After being awarded a bachelor’s degree he responded to a life-long call to consider the priesthood and was sent to St. Charles Borromeo Seminary by Bishop Loverde. He was ordained a deacon in 2010 and ordained a priest on June 11, 2011. After serving four years at Our Lady of Hope Parish in Potomac Falls, Father Schierer came to St. Timothy’s in July of 2015. Father enjoys celebrating the sacraments and walking with families into a closer relationship with God and together growing into a sanctifying life of grace.

As a Parochial Vicar under recently retired Father Weymes he now serves under Pastor Father Meng. Here at Saint Timothy’s he is extremely active in the parish youth and adult ministries representing our Father Nudd Council as Chaplain, the American Heritage Girls Troop as Shepherd and lovingly represents many other ministries that serve our parish and community. Thank you, Father Schierer for your service!

Keep Christ in Christmas

Brothers Dick Waden and David Chambers were extremely busy this Christmas season selling Christmas cards after every Mass to parishioners. This fruitful Knights program helps remind those we send Christmas cards, that Jesus is the reason for the season! Thanks to their efforts, the Father Nudd Council made over $1700.

Knights of Columbus Insurance Protecting Your Family for Life

December marked a special month for our Field Agent John McLaine as he reached a benchmark in his career. The Ulmer Agency (Knights of Columbus Insurance) awarded $100 donation on his behalf to our very own Father Nudd Council in recognition and support of the council’s KOVAR fundraising efforts. John has been a Knight since October 2009 and a Field Agent since December 2016 and proudly serves the following councils: Father Nudd #7369, St. Louis Martin #15256, Santa Maria #4654.

Breakfast & Council Events

Brothers as Grand Knight I have had the pleasure of serving at most of our events this fraternal year. As we continue to serve our many fellowship meals to our parish families at St. Timothy’s many of our knights have dedicated nearly the entire day working to serve others. As we continue to add additional features to our meals like adding a pancake or omelet station during breakfast, setting up our service and recruiting tables, setting up and playing the piano, setting up the moon bounce or wearing the minion costume. These wonderful additions simply add the need for necessary man power to make the event successful. It takes about 20 people to run a breakfast successfully.

Remember, we invite you to bring your wives and children so they may join us in our service efforts and you may learn to serve as a family! I implore you to join us in serving our parish, whether it is setting up or taking down the tables and chairs, cleaning up before or after events or learning how to prepare the meal under our esteemed Chef Mark Z; we need a few good men to aid us in our efforts. See our January & February events listed, contact your Grand Knight Jim Kirk or Deputy Grand Knight Bill Cormier to sign up making our events even more successful.

Director’s Meeting

As many of you know, the 2nd Wednesday of every month, our Council has a non-mandatory Director’s Meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to have detailed discussions about items to be brought to the Council for vote, or other concerns of the Council. The Deputy Grand Knight sets the agenda for this meeting, and makes every attempt to keep the meeting positive and the discussions meaningful. At our last Director’s Meeting on January 11th 2018, the agenda covered many topics. Although the meeting got off to a late start, due to new location (St Timothy’s School Library), we managed to get through all the agenda topics. The meeting was called to order and the group reviewed and discussed upcoming Council events, and potential issues. “We need more help for the next Parish Breakfast – 2/18/2018.” “Coming up is the Right to Life March – 1/19/2018, Clam Chowder Sales – 1/20/2018-1/21/2018, Brunswick Stew Cooking & Sales – 2/3/2018-2/4/2018, and Lenten Meals are not that far away either.” “Also, we need Knights to arrive early for the 1st Degree “Charity” Ceremony on 1/17/2018, as help will be needed to setup the Ceremony in our new meeting place, St Timothy’s School Library.” “Discussion ensued on the topic of how to better communicate with the Council, and how to illicit help with activities?” Discussions also took place about how to help mentor our new members through higher degrees and better meeting attendance. We then discussed old business. “Finalizing the By-laws was the first topic which should be ready for vote this week.” “Next hot topic is scheduling a mid-year budget review which should take place this month.” “Need to schedule Hot Wash for large events such as Christmas Tree Sales, Beer & Brats, etc.” “Discussions about spending vs budget, and how to keep

under control?” “Discussed the option of one of the Council Officers attending another Council’s meeting w/District Deputy to observe and get ideas.” New business was then discussed. “Mike Snow gave a very good presentation about a possible Knights of Columbus Golf Tournament sponsored by our Council.” The potential for Fund Raising is really positive. Mike to bring details back to next Director’s Meeting. “The group also discussed the pros and cons of charging a fee for Council funded events.” The problem is that it is difficult to budget for, and plan food for events without knowing the number to plan for? Next Director’s Meeting is February 14, 2018 in the St Timothy’s School Library. Final thought for the meeting: “Let’s all pray for our Council Brothers, that each of us is growing in faith and in spirit, and that we are leading this Council in the direction that Jesus is guiding us.” Vivat Jesus

Christmas Tree Lot Upgrade

Pays Dividends

The Christmas Tree Sales is the biggest fundraiser for the Knights of Columbus, Father Nudd #7369 Council. Last year the Christmas tree sales struggled and something needed to change. This year, the Council decided to put some money into upgrading the Christmas Tree Lot.

The Council decided to relocate the tree lot, change tree Vendors, core drill the trees, change the display and

presentation of the trees and wreaths, and lower the prices. These changes were meant to draw customers back St. Timothy’s and the Knights of Columbus as the local Christmas tree provider.

With a new Vendor, and a new display and presentation of the trees, the trees practically flew off the lot. Displaying the trees standing up on the new display stands made the lot not only look more professional, but made the lot more functional for both the customers and our knights’ staff.

The Christmas tree lot upgrades has paid off “Big time.” Selling all of the trees a week earlier than planned, allowed our Brother Knights to enjoy a full week and a half before Christmas without having to tend the tree lot. The Council has lots of good ideas how to improve on the Christmas tree sales next year and our Council is looking forward to another banner year.
