I don’t want an election. Cana-dians don’t want an election.

- Federal Liberal leaderMichael Ignatieff

I’m a political pundit – it’s justwhat I do.

So when I heard very disturb-ing reports that there might notbe a federal election this sum-mer I sprang into action.

Canada doesn’t want an elec-tion? Canada needs an election, dammit!

How elsecan we pun-dits pontifi-cate endlesslyabout thehorse race, trash the par-ties’ cam-paigns, belittle the candidatesand look oh so smart while doingit?

And what else would Canadi-ans have to talk about?

The weather? Don’t make mesick!

Anyway, I knew there wasonly one organized crime groupthat could pull off this no-elec-tion caper – the Parliament HillGang!

And quite the collection theyare – they’ve taken more moneyfrom innocent Canadians thanif Al Capone, Ronald Biggs andBernie Madoff joined forces!

Here’s the rundown – Gilles“Frenchy” Duceppe. Calls hisBloc Quebecois election cam-paign plane “Deb-o-naire” – toocute by demi.

Jack “The ’Stache” Layton.Who’d ever thunk an NDP

leader would become hero toevery used car dealer in thecountry?

Layton’s about as trustworthywith your family silverware –he’d nationalize Tim Hortons ifhe could get away with it.

There’s Michael “Count Iggy”Ignatieff. Also known as “TheProfessor” and “That AmericanGuy.”

Then the gang boss – for now – Stephen “Thugsy” Harper,

a.k.a.“Little Stevie Blunder” and“Helmet Hair”.

No election eh? Who’s wiseidea was that?

I grilled ‘em like a sockeyesalmon on Canada Day.

“Who’s holdin’ out on callin’an election? Talk or I send youout to a media scrum wearinganother hair net!” I threatenedDuceppe.

“Mais, je ne connais pas, rien,”he whimpered.

“Don’t know nuttin’ eh?” Isneered.

I didn’t evenbother withLayton – oncehe startstalkin’ henever shutsup.

Iggy was smilin’ like aCheshire cat and Harper, well, Icould just tell somethin’ was upbetween those two.

“Listen you punks, Canadaneeds an election this summer –I got nuttin’ to write about,” Iyelled.

They looked at their feet likechoir boys caught smokin’.

They knew I was right.“Sorry – what was we thinkin’

bout?” Iggy replied, dropping hisusual pompous pronounce-ments.

“I dunno what came over me,”Harper added. “This coopera-tion crap is stoopid!”

I decided to go easy on ‘em.“I’m gonna give you till Sep-

tember to call an election on acount of I’m a charitable kindaguy,” I said. “But I tell youse, anymore deals and my press gallerygoons will rub out the lot of you– now get outta my sight!”

It’s a tough job some days buthey, I’m a political pundit – it’swhat I do.

What’s on your mind?■ IT SEEMS TO me that when people call for police, many seem to to miss the fact that police are alsofrustrated with the judges when, after all their efforts, they see criminals out on the street next day. It is thejudge’s prime job, in my opinion, to protect the public.Little thought seems to go to all the victims of crime, Iwonder what judges would feel like on the receivingend? Would the situation improve? What can be doneto bring about a change?

When I was a child myparents bought me a fish ina tiny bowl and told me if Itake care of it properly Icould eventually get a dog.

Unfortunately I failed toproperly go through theowners manual where it

specifically mentioned tokeep the little bugger inwater at all times. In hind-sight, I probably shouldn’thave been given that littlenet that’s used to snag thefish from its bowl. To me itwas as simple as wanting

to pet him.In the end I went through

guppies like Q-Tips.As a teen I caught my

first fish and watched inhorror as my uncle pickedit off my hook and bashedits head in against the side

of the boat. I never thoughtthat far in advance. I as-sumed they past away thesecond they left the water. That little open water trau-ma pretty much ended myfishing career.

As a person of proud Brit-ish heritage, I have had myfair share of fish-and-chipdinners. Nothing quite saysauthentic like walkingdown the street with yoursupper tucked under yourarm wrapped in newspaper.Of course it’s all well and

good until some fish cookforgets to put the meal on awax liner before wrappingit up in print. I’m a bigsports fan but do I reallyneed to see the golf resultstattooed on the back of fishbatter?

And the fish hits justkeep on coming. A fewyears ago thanks, to a sus-pect filet o’ fish, I spent thebetter part of a SuperbowlSunday locked in my bath-room in what could only bedescribed as a heads and

tails kind of situation.Every orifice was at DEF-CON 1 that day. Safe to say,I ruled out fish for good.

Then last week, after ex-plaining to a friend aboutmy sad fish history, he rec-ommended I try it again. Heinsisted that if I ate freshwater fish before I went tosleep there was an excellentchance I would have a sexu-al dream. Well, if there wasa way to get me to eat fishagain this was probably thescenario with the best in-

centive.That evening I got out

my little barbecue andcooked myself a nice thickfish fillet, and boy was itgood. The only thing left todo was hit the hay whilequietly chanting MeganFox’s name.

That night, I dreamt Iwas inappropriatelyspooned by a trout. Sigh.

Q: I have this femalefriend who I have beenfriends with for almost 10years. We dated for a shorttime in that friendship. Webroke up because I didsomething really bad. NowI have feelings for her likeI did before when we weredating. I told her aboutthese feelings, and I haveasked her to go out withme again, and she said shewill think about it.

What I want to know isthere a chance she willtake me back? I reallyhave come to the decisionthat I love this girl.

A: I sense that it’s goingto be very hard work foryou to convince her to giveyou a second chance. Shelost a lot of her feelings foryou when you were to-gether due to being hurt.If you can get her onboard, my concern is thatthe relationship will beshort lived because in theromance department, youhave grown so far apart.

I can see the friendshipbetween you lasting forev-er, but can’t really senseanother love affair be-tween you that will go thesame type of distance.

I say take your best shot, because if you don’t it willalways bother you, butdon’t bet everything youhave on it bringing backyour long lost love.
