Awards Cycle
• Anyone can nominate a candidate– Candidates cannot nominate themselves– AFCEA staff members cannot be nominated
• Individual awards designed to mirror career stages– DYA/Emerging Leader: Early career awards– Meritorious Service Award: Mid career award– Medal of Merit: Senior career award– Leadership: Highest career award
• Be sure to nominate a person for the right award• Do not leave nominations until last minute!
– Nominations close on a Sunday so no assistance available if needed
– Backlog of issues the last business day before nominations close

• Go to www.afcea.org/awards– Scroll down and click on relevant award
name
How to nominate a candidate
• Ensure candidates meet listed criteria
• Important to put candidates in for the right award
How to nominate a candidate
• Scroll down to nomination form and complete
• Important that all fields are completed with correct information– Contact details used to
email/mail nominee and nominator
– Name and organization used for awards program
– Name engraved on award
How to nominate a candidate
• Fill out Justification box on nomination form– 500 words maximum
• Spaces and blank lines may count– Type over placeholder text
• Leave in sub-headers• Suggest typing/saving in Word then
electronically cutting and pasting into form (cannot save form)
• Submit Nomination once complete– Will automatically be sent to the
Regional Vice President for endorsement
– You will receive an automatic acknowledgement of receipt
How to nominate a candidate
• If you made an error on the nomination or missed out relevant information– Redo and resubmit the nomination – the last one
you submitted will be the one used• You must resubmit before the deadline• Website will not accept nominations after midnight
• For minor errors after the deadline– Contact Susan immediately to take care of the
error manually– No changes can be made once voting starts
How to nominate a candidate
• Consists of some Regional Vice Presidents (RVPs), past RVPs, Members of the BOD and EXCOM
• An initial three year term with possibility of extensions
• 10-day voting period in mid-March• Winners confirmed on a conference call held
late March
AFCEA International Awards Committee
• Held each year at a major AFCEA event on the East coast
• In 2015 will be held Monday, May 4 prior to the Defensive Cyber Operations Symposium in Baltimore
• Chapter awards ceremony at lunch
• Individual awards ceremony at dinner• If a winner cannot attend the
ceremony, the award is presented by the relevant RVP at an appropriate future chapter event
