Ex16: Study the diagram carefully and answer the following questions:

Page 2: CHAPTER- CIRCULATORY SYSTEM Ex16: Study the diagram

1. Name the blood vessels labelled 1,3,6 and 7.

Ans: 1. Pulmonary vein 2. Dorsal aorta 3. Hepatic portal vein 4. Renal artery 5.renal vein 6. Hepatic vein 7.

Inferior vena cava 8. Pulmonary artery

2.Name the blood vessel that supplies the walls of the heart with oxygen.

Ans: Coronary artery.

3.Draw a neat labelled diagram of the blood vessel numbered 2 as seen in a cross section.

Page 3: CHAPTER- CIRCULATORY SYSTEM Ex16: Study the diagram

4. Mention one structural difference between blood vessels numberedc4 and 5.

Ans: Renal artery is thick walled with narrow lumen.

Renal vein is thin walled with wide lumen.

1. Name the blood vessels or organs marked by numbers 1to 8.

Ans: 1.Head 2. Superior vena cava 3. Dorsal aorta 4. Right ventricle 5.left auricle 6.pulmonary artery

7.pulmonary vein.

2. What do you mean by the term double circulation of blood in mammals?

Ans: Double circulation is when the blood passes twice through the heart so as to circulate once through the

body.

3. What is diastole?

Ans: Diastole is defined as relaxed phase of the chambers of the heart.

1. Name the kind of blood vessels shown.

Ans: vein

2. Name the structures shown inside the blood vessels.

Ans: valve

3. Describe the role of these structures.

Ans: It prevent the backward flow of blood

4. Are these structures present in any other kind of blood vessel ? If so, name it.

Ans: Pulmonary artery – pulmonary semilunar valve

Aorta- Aortic semilunar valve.

5 Towards which side of the figure is the heart located?

Ans: Top

Ex19: Study the diagram carefully and answer the following questions

Page 7: CHAPTER- CIRCULATORY SYSTEM Ex16: Study the diagram

1. Which kind of blood vessel is shown in A? Write any two characteristics of such blood vessels?

Ans: Capillaries .They are thin walled narrow vessels. They do not have tunica externa and media but they have

tunica interna.

2. Name two kinds of blood cells shown in A.

Page 8: CHAPTER- CIRCULATORY SYSTEM Ex16: Study the diagram

Ans: RBC and WBC

3. Describe step by step what is happening in the three figures.what is the advantage of this activity to our

body?

Ans: In 1 figure WBC squeeze out through the walls of capillaries that is called Diapedesis.

In fig 2 WBC engulf the bacteria that is called phagocytosis. In 3 fig foreign bodies engulfed.

Ans: 1.Pulmonary artery 2. Pulmonary vein 3. Dorsal aorta 4.renal artery 5 hepatic vein 6 hepatic artery 7.renal

Vein 8. Inferior vena cava.

2. Give the number and name of the vessel which contains the maximum amount of urea a few hours after a

protein rich meal.

Ans: 4. Renal artery .

4.Mention two structural differences between blood vessels 3 and 8.

Ans: 3 is artery 1.Arteries have narrow lumen 2.They have thick wall.

8 is vein 1. Veins have wide lumen. 2 They have thin wall.

Ex 22: State the main functions of :

Ans: 1 Chordae tendinae is whitish thread like structure that attach auriculo – ventricular valve with papillary

muscles present in the walls of ventricle.

2.Lymphocytes- It produces antibodies that provides immunity against specific disease.

3. Coronary artery- Coronary artery supplies oxygenated blood to the walls of heart.
