Henry II, Common Law, and Conflicts with the ChurchKing Henry II of England, who
ruled from 1154 to 1189, became one of the most powerful European. monarchs
He controlled England and half of what is present day France.
And King Henry set up a whole lot of laws for England.

King John, the Magna Carta, and ParliamentKing John was the youngest
son of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine.
He ruled from 1199 to 1216John in sited that as king , he
had the power to do whatever he wished.

succeeded in laying the foundations for a nation state.

Hugh Capet laid then foundations of the French monarchy . His line called the Captain Dynasty ,lasted for more than 300 years.
Hugh eldest son was selected as the next king of France.
Two strong later Captain monarch s were Philip II Augustus and Louis IX . Both monarchs enjoyed long reigns.

In 1337, England invaded Normandy in France , which caused the beginning of the hundred Years War.
A large powerful French army was defeated by a small English army.
As a result of the war , France assumed much of the same territory that it occupies today as a nation.
