Platelets (Thrombocytes)• Thrombopoietin

– Made in liver, kidney, smooth muscle, bone marrow

• Megakaryocytes formed in bone marrow– Break apart to form many platelets

• Platelets live 8–9 days in circulation– Many are stored in spleen– Released when needed
