The month of October brings many ways for the congregation and lay people of our church

to participate by leading in worship. This month, we will be having our Laity Sunday,

Children’s Sabbath, and Youth Sunday. Please stay tuned for more to come in regards to our

church and these exciting new worship experiences to come.

If you haven’t been in the worship celebration recently, you have one last chance with the

next part of this sermon series, Radical Hospitality: Opening the Door. Come to worship on

Sunday hear all about it!

Bishop Robert Schnase, in his book Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations, discusses five common

characteristics of healthy United Methodist congregations: Radical Hospitality, Passionate Worship,

Intentional Faith Development, Risk-taking Mission and Service, and Extravagant Generosity.

Since its introduction in 2007, the Five Practices have become widely quoted, mimicked and

implemented by numerous clergy and churches. A casual Google search for ‘radical hospitality’ will

find over 300 United Methodist churches who use the term in some fashion on the home page of their

church web sites. It is almost as if the term has become a defacto measurement metric for healthy

churches.

Webster defines the term hospitality as “generous and friendly treatment of visitors and guests.”

Certainly this is something we are all familiar with. However, when you add the adjective radical,

meaning “extreme; different from the usual or traditional,” the implications can be very dramatic. In this

three-part series, we will explore the notion of Radical Hospitality.

Children’s Sabbath

Matthew 22:37-38: Love the Lord your God with all your Heart,

Soul and Mind. This is our theme for Children’s Sabbath. The

children have been learning what this means. They have been

working hard learning songs and getting ready to lead the

congregation in worship in a couple weeks!

Christmas Program

The Rock n Praise Choir is working hard at learning their lines

for the performance in December. We are in need of an adult

Darth Vader mask/helmet. If you know someone, or if you

have a Darth Vader mask/Helmet that we can borrow for the

performance, that would be wonderful. Please contact Tiffany

Smith: [email protected] The Rock n Praise Choir

is designing the set, if you would like to help, come on Sunday

evenings at 5pm.

Message Experience

This year, Ms. Iris has graciously agreed to lead Message

Experience during worship. (THANK YOU SO MUCH, Ms. Iris)

Last week the children learned about turning your worries over

to God. We talked about how God provides us with enough

that we don’t have to worry and when we do we need to give

it to God. This past Sunday was World Communion Sunday.

Ms. Iris taught the children about World Communion.

Group Vocal Technique Class

There will be a Group Vocal Technique Class for our church

congregation on October 9th and 16th at 4-5:00 pm in the choir

room. In this two-hour group lesson, those with little or no formal

voice lesson experience will be able to learn the basics to have a

good, healthy singing technique. They will learn about vocal

anatomy, proper breathing and balanced tone, as well as vocal

registers and vocal health. This class is for anyone who would

simply like to improve their singing voice. If you have any question

about this class, please ask our Minister of Music, David Lee,

[email protected]. A sign-up sheet will be in the

sanctuary hallway for anyone interested.

Christmas Cantata: "Let There Be Christmas”

Our Christmas Cantata will be presented on Sunday, December

18th during the 10:30 worship service by the Chancel Choir with

special guests.

We are inviting you to join us with our Christmas Cantata. We will

begin having rehearsals starting October 12th from 7:30 – 8:30pm

just for our Christmas Cantata. Join us in helping to celebrate

Christ’s birth and be part of this beautiful tradition. If you have any

questions or wish to participate, please email and/or call our

Music Minister, David Lee at [email protected] or 609-

439-2655.

Chancel Choir

Our Music Minister, David Lee, is giving private voice lessons for

choir members starting in October, free of charge. He is wanting

to help anyone interested to improve their vocal technique.

Our Chancel Choir welcomes all levels and abilities to practice

with them every Wednesday evening 7:30 – 9:00 pm and Sunday

morning 10 am in the choir practice room. If you have any

question feel free to call David Lee at 609-439-2655 or email

[email protected]

CHAPEL BELLS

This is a perfect time to join our bell choir, Chapel Bells. We just

have a fresh New Minister of Music, David Lee. He is planning

to teach how to ring a bell for new beginners who wish to

learn. Also Chapel Bells are ready to have a fun time with you.

We rehearse Wednesday 6pm – 7pm in the Bell Choir practice

room.

If you are interested in joining the Chapel Bells for fun and

fellowship please do not hesitate to ask and call David Lee at
