TRAINING SESSION 2 TUESDAY 9th June 8am – 9.30am at FIFA Goal Project, Yundum

THEME: POSSESSION WITH A FINISH – VERY HIGH INTENSITY

WARM-UP (15 MINS) LIGHT MOVEMENT IN AN AREA, DYNAMIC STRETCHING, STATIC STRETCHING, QUICK FEET

Training Content 1 – 30 mins

Area: 70yds x 70yds Equipment: Balls, Cones, Poles, Bibs Players: 6 v 6 v 6 (16) 6 v 6 v 6 + 2 (18) 7 v 7 v 7 + 1 (20)

Rules: Play into outside man is a goal, must then turn and attack opposite side 5 mins then rotate teams on outside Progressions : 2 touch then 1 touch

Key Coaching Points: 1 Quick turns when receiving the ball 2 Awareness of players 3 Quick passing 4 Angles of support and positioning What went well… Competitiveness between each team, desire to win, resulting in good finishing, rapid transition from one side to the next Even better if… Motivate outside players to keep their quality high

Training Content 2 – 20 mins

Area: Full pitch with markings as shown Equipment: Balls, Cones, Bibs Players: 7 v 7 (16) 8 v 8 (18) 9 v 9 (20)

Rules: Keep possession inside the area for at least six passes Pass through cones to attacker who crosses for finish 1 attacking player is allowed to join to create overload 3 v 2 Team that scores keeps possession Progressions : 1 No restrictions on passes (or lower to 2) 2 Encourage quick counter-attacks

Key Coaching Points: 1 Patient possession 2 Quick forward play if opening presents itself 3 Desire to finish 4 Awareness of players 5 High quality of passes What went well… Very good patient play in the middle, quality finishing (10-9!), good awareness, Even better if… Could add neural players or 2 to create overload in the middle? Retreating defender to join in as well? Change the starting position of wingers who are crossing to encourage them to be able to meet the ball and cross on the run rather than standing and waiting
