VTLA Golf Please join us for a 12-hole golf event on The Greenbrier course. Opened for play in 1924, this course was redesigned by Jack Nicklaus in 1977 in preparation for the 1979 Ryder Cup. The course was also home to The Greenbrier American Express Championship, a PGA TOUR Champions event, from 1985 through 1987. Sam Snead famously shot 59 his round called “the greatest competitive round in the history of the game.” Holes 1- 8 and 15-18 will create this 12-hole routing. It is heavily wooded, encouraging shot shaping off the tee and precise approach shots onto the greens. The well-bunkered and terraced greens require talent and creativity on and around the putting surface. This unique course costs only $90 - sign up at registration.

Enjoy more than CLE at The Greenbrier!

VTLA honors three oustanding attorneysPlease join us at the Annual Banquet where we honor three special VTLA members.

Charles J. Zauzig III will receive the VTLA Distinguished Service Award. Chuck, a partner in Nichols Zauzig Sandler in Woodbridge, is a past president of VTLA and currently serves as Chair of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Political Action Committee. His nomination said it best: “Chuck has never rested on his accomplishments. He has never said, ‘I did my part and now I’m taking a break.’ He is always waist-high in the fray, helping us to fight the good fight. Chuck Zauzig represents the very best this profession has to offer.”

Thomas E. Albro of Tremblay & Smith in Charlottesville will receive VTLA’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Tom, also a past president of VTLA, has been a trailblazer since he began practicing in a general practice firm that focused on criminal defense. He built a personal injury practice and became a respected leader in a number of areas. He helped to roll back sovereign immunity for attending physicians at state hospitals and his name has became synonymous with plaintiff’s defamation work. He has handled cases at all levels, including appellate cases like James v. Jane (sovereign immunity of doctors at state hospitals) and City of Charlottesville v. Taylor (nuisance claim against a city).

Victor Glasberg will be presented with the Oliver White Hill Courageous Advocate Award not for a single act of courage in advocacy, but for a career of courageous advocacy. Through a 44+ year career, Vic has made a difference in qualified immunity, prison conditions and prisoner rights, Americans with Disabilities Act, freedom of speech and religion and so much more. Vic has invested his time, his resources, his faith in the Constitution, his passion for equal treatment for all and, ultimately, his belief in the inherent dignity of all people as he seeks to forge a society in which we all have equal stature before the law, one case at a time.
