Ensuring the integrity of piping systems and associated

processing equipment is second nature to Champion

Technologies. We’ve provided high-performance specialty

chemistries and engineered application services for

production operations, pipelines and processing facilities —

from the wellhead to the refinery gate—for more than a

half century.

Because no two pipeline systems are alike, Champion

Technologies partners with you to produce a system risk

assessment using topographical mapping, system Basis

of Design, and a full array of commercial and proprietary

modeling programs. This risk assessment identifies areas

requiring increased monitoring and inspection, and more

aggressive pigging and treatment programs. Frequently

these risk assessments identify opportunities to improve

operating efficiencies through system and equipment

modifications rather than operational programs.

Once we have a clear picture of the logistical factors and

strategic situation, we assemble an experienced and

disciplined project team to establish a clearly defined scope

of work. We produce a project execution plan, including

goals and objectives, that concentrate on both asset

improvement opportunities and performance measures

to track results.

You face more technical challenges and regulatory complexities

every single year. Champion Technologies’ midstream services team

is your operational ally.

Champion technologies’ midstream service team conducts an extensive and thorough field audit to collect, compile and evaluate the data needed for each application. Key parameters are determined by:

Chemistry and support services compliment good pigging programsTwo primary constituents of pipeline integrity involve risk-

based inspection and a well-managed routine pigging

program. Failure diagnoses, mitigation strategies and

program optimization, mixed with high-performance

chemistries and engineered application services, are

second-nature to Champion Technologies.

Periodic pigging provides many benefits including

cleaning, batch treating (jet pig), flow assurance and

product recovery, as well as providing valuable information

about the internal condition of the pipeline. On-stream and

off-stream pipeline pigging is a key component to these

management services.

In addition, chemical batch programs ensure that pipelines

and processing plants are maintained at peak condition,

so system integrity never becomes an issue. As regulatory

requirements have become more rigorous, our fluid

engineering specialists have stayed one step ahead.

depending on your objectives and your facilities’ local conditions, Champion technologies can provide:• Advanced corrosion inhibitors for midstream chemical

treatment programs that neutralize corrosive substances

and particles and coat inner surfaces with

protective films• Advanced biocides that destroy harmful bacteria, yet

are safe to use and exert minimal harmful effects on

the environment• Advanced scale inhibitors, that prevent deposition of

solids on the inner walls of pipelines and processing

equipment through either dispersion mechanisms or

by distorting crystals, precipitated by the mixing of

incompatible fluids• Advanced paraffin inhibitors, asphaltene inhibitors and

hydrate inhibitors to prevent formation of blockages that

reduce or interrupt throughput in pipelines• Advanced drag-reducing agents to help smooth the fluid

flow in pipelines by reducing the frictional forces along

a pipeline’s length• Advanced oxygen and H2S scavengers to help prevent

the attack of corrosive mechanisms capable of seriously

damaging inner steel surfaces and deteriorating the

thickness of pipeline walls

Champion Technologies’ world-class chemical manufacturing plants, blending plants,

district and regional laboratories, and global research and development organization ensure

you receive chemical products of the highest quality, produced to exacting specifications,

and in the quantities required - when and where you need it most.

Consequent equipment failure can result in environmental

pollution, damaged property or a threat to public safety.

On-stream and off-stream pipeline pigging

problem:An oil transmission pipeline from three platforms to onshore facility was experiencing significant corrosion issues.

Challenge:The three platforms produce 30,000 bfpd, co-mingled water from the Tulare and Diatomite zones. The oil passes through 12-inch lines at 600 feet below sea level from platforms A and C to platform B. Production from platform B to the onshore facility passes through a 24-inch pipeline. This line consists of 10.56 miles of underwater sub-line and 16.32 miles of onshore pipeline, and the thickness varies from .8 to .6 inches.

solution:Corrosion inhibitor, Cortron® RN-63, is continuously injected to protect both the 12-inch lines to platformB and the line from platform B to onshore. The line is additionally batch treated every 6 months withCortron® R-2255 and 500 gallons of diesel between two pigs.

results:The monitoring program, which included coupons, water analysis, wall thickness measurements, andElectrical Resistance probes, showed corrosion rate was reduced significantly.

Value:Cost of treatment and services was reduced overall by 70%.

efficient Corrosion inhibition program for large Oil transmission pipeline Offshore to Onshore

Controlling Failures of shallow gas Fields with Biocide and Corrosion inhibition programproblem:Two large shallow gas fields were experiencing pipelines failures caused by corrosion, bacteria, oxygenated water from aggressive line cleaning and early drilling practices, and clay swelling due to water incompatibilities with the producing formations.

Challenge:The low-volume gas wells produce small volumes of sand, clay, and water. Solids and water settle out in the pipelines due to low transit velocities and begin to accumulate on the bottom of the pipelines.

solution:An aggressive pigging program was initiated to remove all sand, clay, and water from the pipelines. Once the lines were clean, biocide, Bactron® K-54, was used to kill any bacteria that were attached to the walls or pits on the pipeline. Corrosion inhibitor, Cortron® RU-196, was used to lay a tenacious film on the walls of the pipeline to prevent corrosion from occurring. It was recommended that Cortron® RU-196 be applied along with monthly pigging to prevent any build-up of sand, clay, and water in the pipelines.

Value:The pigging program removed the majority of standing area where stagnant water facilitated bacterial growth. Once any remaining bacteria were removed and the corrosion inhibitor applied, the total number of failures was significantly reduced. For one producer, this was an annual cost savings of over $18K USD.

Beyond compliance to profitabilityThe importance of midstream oil and gas operations is

increasing dramatically at a time when pipelines and

processing plants are facing unprecedented technical

challenges and regulatory mandates. As a result, producers

are under pressure to sustain efficient operations.

The key to ensuring pipeline integrity, safety, operation

efficiency, and profitability is by implementing an

“operational and technical excellence” systematic approach

to the chemical management program that compliments

your business objectives and operations. Champion

Technologies is focused on partnering with the industry to

develop and execute industry-leading standards and best

practices that are designed to deliver world-class reliability,

efficiency, asset integrity, safety, and environmental

compliance.

Conclusion:Whether starting up a new midstream facility, expanding

an existing pipeline system or processing installation, or

looking for a solution to a persistent operating problem,

Champion Technologies’ midstream services team can

provide the specialty chemistries, engineered application

services, monitoring, and regulatory documentation to

support your needs.

• Implementing monitoring, maintenance, and

remediation procedures necessary to keep midstream

facilities operating at peak efficiency

• Establishing recordkeeping and reporting procedures

capable of documenting that operations fall within

regulatory requirements

Champion technologies helps you with both operational and regulatory challenges by:

Experience teaches that engineered batch or continuous-injection

treatments with high-performance specialty chemistries offer one of

the most cost-effective ways of maintaining the physical integrity of

midstream facilities, and should be included in any maintenance or

integrity management program.

Extremely corrosive organic and inorganic solids present in liquids can lead to reduced

efficiency and throughput, lost income, and increasing operational costs.
