We are delighted to bring you a feast of music from across the centuries in a range of venues throughout our beautiful city, designated ‘Adelaide City of Music’ as part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.

All of us at CMA were thrilled to be awarded the 2016 Adelaide Critics’ Circle/Independent Arts Foundation Innovation Award for our free public event, On The Terrace: a musical exploration.

This creative collaboration with the Museum, the State Library and the Art Gallery of South Australia drew enthusiastic and curious audiences to the North Terrace cultural precinct on a rainy Sunday in October. They immersed themselves in vocal and instrumental music played on a range of period and contemporary instruments that complemented the glorious surrounds and displays of the three cultural institutions.

CMA hopes to expand On the Terrace in 2017 if we can secure the necessary financial support. You might like to consider becoming a CMA Champion. Details are on the inside front cover.

Following sell-out performances in the past six years, this cabaret-style concert recreates the atmosphere of the Leipzig cafés in the 1700s, where Bach and Telemann went weekly for their musical recreation and concertizing.

Enjoy great Baroque music in a relaxed and convivial setting. Program includes the music of the giants of the German Baroque including J S Bach, Handel and Telemann as well as the lesser known Heinichen.

Formed in 1985 by its Artistic Director and Conductor Carl Crossin, Adelaide Chamber Singers is widely respected as one of Australia’s leading chamber choirs. In 2013, ACS was crowned “Choir of the World at Llangollen 2013” and has shared a stage with both the Rolling Stones and The Tallis Scholars.

For over 30 years, the Australian String Quartet has created unforgettable string quartet performances for national and international audiences. Dedicated to musical excellence with a distinctly Australian character, their purpose is to create chemistry and amplify intimacy through experiences that connect people with string quartet music. Slava Grigoryan joins the ASQ in two works of contemporary sensibility. Ralph Towner is a celebrated jazz guitarist and his quintet, Migration, blends the melodic and harmonic language of jazz with a classical sense of development. Australian composer, Iain Grandage, traverses classical, jazz and popular styles in his guitar quintet, contemplating the mind’s mystery and complexity in music of kaleidoscopic colour. The poignant world of late Schubert forms the emotional apex of this concert. His final string quartet, in G major, is charged with the heartfelt emotion and eloquent lyricism that is the core of his genius.

Set within the walls of one of Adelaide oldest churches, Christ Church North Adelaide proudly presents their 2017 concert series. These concerts, and the weekly choir and organ program at Christ Church, are supported by the David Gallasch Memorial Music Trust.

Internationally acclaimed Organist Christopher Wrench gives a recital on Christ Church’s stunning pipe organ. One of Australia’s leading organists, he has performed at numerous Australian festivals and appeared frequently as a concerto soloist. Christopher is currently Director of Music at Christ Church St Lucia and organist with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

Nineteen international tours have taken his music around the globe, and his recording of Bach’s Organ Sonatas on the Melba label received international rave reviews. Christopher commands a solo repertoire spanning six centuries, including the complete organ works of J.S.Bach, Buxtehude, Duruflé, Franck, Hindemith, Mendelssohn and Mozart.

KEGELSTATT ENSEMBLE

Kegelstatt (skittle alley) is the subtitle of Mozart’s trio for clarinet, viola and piano, composed after a game of skittles with friends. Friendship and pleasure are central to the Kegelstatt philosophy, and the ensemble draws on a national pool of fellow musicians and long-time friends, who come together joyfully to bring great chamber music to life.
