Please PRAY
For all who will participate in the upcoming
Synod of Southwestern Ontario conference here
at Chalmers on October 16 &17. We pray for
God’s wisdom, courage and patience for the
Moderator-elect of synod, The Rev. Mark
McLennan, Minister of Knox PC in Woodstock.
God of love and mercy, as we respond to the
plight of refugees from Syria and other parts of
your world, we pray for the people of this
country and of the church, that we may not be
indifferent or naïve, afraid or overwhelmed,
discouraged or blind to hope and options to help
in the call of justice.
For God to provide healing and pain relief for
Dorothy Barfoot as she deals with health
challenges.
For the Lord to speed the healing for Heather
deHoog who suffered a bone fracture when she
twisted her ankle.
For God’s healing hand to be upon Maureen
Gaskin as she receives treatment and care at
Parkwood Hospital.
For healing and a spirit of perseverance for Bill
George who is resting at home and receiving
regular treatments in hospital.
For God’s blessing for Shirley Bakelaar, Ross
Cole, Margaret Dale, Doris Doskas, Martin
McHardy, Linda McPherson, and Margaret
Middaugh.

World Food Day
October 16 is World Food Day. It is a day to
reflect on the prevalence of hunger and malnutrition
in our global village and inspire solutions for lasting
change. God’s promise of abundant life is for all
creation, yet 870 million people do not have enough
to eat. Presbyterian World Service & Development
collaborates with our partners at Canadian
Foodgrains Bank to provide food in times of
emergency and to ensure that people have food for
the future. In Guatemala, PWS&D’s local partner
helped Maria Victoria Perez learn how to correctly
plant trees and diversify her crops to improve her
family’s nutrition. Maria’s garden is not the only
thing flourishing—she now has the confidence to
teach and empower other indigenous women to rise
above hunger and create a better quality of life.

LIBRARY
Truth Stained Lies,
Distortion and Twisted Innocence by Terri
Blackstock are a series of books about a family, and extended family, who have been badly hurt by a
Drug Lord, Leonard Miller. Miller has become a very
powerful, very wealthy man who covers his tracks well, and has no remorse at killing anyone who he
feels know too much about him, or is just in his way. Max and Michael Hogan are brothers, both serving as
police officers whose brother Joe was killed by
Leonard Miller. Cathy, Juliet, Jay and Holly are siblings whose lives are intertwined with the Hogan
brothers, and whose lives are also changed forever by the presence of Leonard Miller. This is a fast
moving, complex drug scent/murder mystery that keeps you reading (and sweating) right to the very
last pages of the series.
I really enjoyed these books. If you like suspense, mystery and/or action stories …. These are the books
for you! Christine Hunter, Librarian
